“Cancel my membership without notice, and still take...”

★★★☆☆

written by Fang93 on 09/09/2023

The PureGym cancelled my membership without any form of notice. The reason for the cancellation is because of their fees increased. I requested for a refund, and they refused as direct debit payment is non-refundable. It is now end up with i paid for a month of fees without access to the PureGym. That’s really disappointing.

“Cold training area.”

★★★☆☆

written by davyoh on 29/12/2017

I am a member of Pure Gym Bangor Northern Ireland. I placed a review on their site about how cold it is in the changing area. The next day they removed it what is the point of doing a review if they control when someone is being negative and they do not like to hear the truth. The following is my review. Have been a member since it opened and the only complaint that I have is that management do not seem to care how cold it is in the gents changing room. There is one small heater on in the ceiling not much heat coming from it. There is also a large radiator in the toilet and basin area which has not been turned on and I must point out it was turned on last year during the winter months. I contacted Customer Services about this a short while ago and they informed me that they had told a member of staff to turn it on well guess what it is still not on. Getting out of a hot shower and entering a cold room is not my idea of fun. I have spoken to quite a few members of different ages about how cold the room is they have all agreed with me that it should be a bit warmer.

“Leeds City Centre North going downhill fast !!”

★★★☆☆

written by Moses160 on 07/02/2017

It was a great gym but sadly all the best instructors have left or are about to leave. Equipment is not always replaced, no weighing scales on the gym floor for about 2 year now. Inadequate drinking facility.

“Management”

★★★☆☆

written by Smithnl399 on 26/11/2016

Management skills need to be looked into and addressed at some locations, and management training required. They may know their fitness but are well below parr when it comes to management skills in relation to staff and also clients. Managers need to lead by example especially at Denton Branch. This needs looking into urgently.

“Motherwell pure gym”

★★★☆☆

written by BriaMurdock on 01/06/2016

Unhappy looking staff, personal trainers being made to spend up to 90 minutes mopping and hoovering equipment. High turnover, all the best trainers seem to be leaving. Managers who seem disinterested, just sitting in the office when they aren't teaching classes. Some PTs don't teach classes at all, others hardly any. Timetable full of cycle and lbt and fatburn and some step classes that don't seem to be like step at all, more like a circuit/bootcamp. Classes being advertised on the app and when you go it's something else. Some days the gym is sparkling and other days the equipment is filthy. Just a very strange atmosphere in the gym, some trainers teach like they honestly don't know what they are doing and don't want to be there either. I feel sorry for them, because it's obvious that some aren't making any money at all, no wonder they seem low.

“Excellent value”

★★★☆☆

written by on 09/05/2016

Stood at gym entrance for ages because I didn't know how to get in. Another member told me what to do not a staff member. I was booked in for spin and didn't know where to go I was wondering around until again another gym member told me as all the staff ignored me. Spin class was great and I enjoyed it but not because of the staff. The friendly experience was due to other gym members. This was pure gym Clydebank

“Staines pure gym”

★★★☆☆

written by Munozbu449 on 19/02/2016

Whilst I believe this to be quite good value I will be leaving to go back to my old gym, I would rather pay more and feel comfortable. The weights room is very intimidating for females and the only place there is weight machines. The bases of the cross trainers are filthy. I was a bit concerned one Sunday evening that there was only one member of staff working and he was taking a class...my pin wasn't working so the instructor told me to find a cleaner to let me out as he would be in a class, there was no cleaner so I spent 30 min trying to find someone to let me out. How would that one person evacuate the premises or if someone collapsed who would use the defibrillator ?? I stood and put 369 in at the door for ages with no joy so what's the point of having the facility. If you just want cross trainer, rowing and tread mill this place is fine. All the staff have been polite and friendly it's the environment that isn't

“milton keynes Puregym ”

Puregym in Milton Keynes, is fantastic value for money....ive been a member for over a year and a half, the only thing I dislike is the staff, they are rude' and unfriendly with bad attitude's. The only one who is generally friendly and sincere is the general manager there.....I guess its the nature of people these days, good and kind people are hard to find!?!

“Could be great, sadly for some staff it's not. ”

Do pure gym have mechanism to allow staff to give feedback about their managers without repercussions? I know someone who is so demoralised by the behaviour of their manager that they were going to ask for a meeting with the regional manager. And that's just one team member The gym hasn't even been open two months. I think you need to consider allowing staff a platform to feed back how they are being treated, with no managers there. My friend is an experienced fitness instructor, pt and gym instructor excellent at what they do. And is looking for a job. Such is the way the manager treats them. And a few others. Poor show. Really poor show

This can happen in any company and surely can't be a reflection on Pure Gym as a whole. Your review doesn't help customers who want to know about equipment and classes. You shouldn't have posted.

Totally agree with your comments. I was a pt in Manchester and the attitude of the manager is the worst I've experienced. On interview I was promised support to build clientele, that they were open to new ideas. Sadly not the case. The manager was More interested in Flirting with her fave pt allowing him to get away with not cleaning, list goes on!

And yes this does affect customers as pt's are the face of the company! Who are grafting for free. And most probably accounting for the stressed out pt's that have been reviewed on here.

Pure gym are only interested in making money and pt's are just another vehicle for that, not investing in people which IS a mark of a quality company.

“It's cheap and the quality reflects it (Glasgow)”

★★★☆☆

written by irvine0990 on 10/04/2015

I'm what most would describe as a "gym rat" but I'm a student and so £19 a month is as much as I can spend right now - that is the only reason I'm still at PureGym. It's infuriatingly busy. Obviously because it's cheap they need so much members to make up for it. I get it - but I still hate it. Never go on 5.30pm-8pm, you'll do more waiting around for weights and machines than actually use them. Or on a bank holiday. Or in January. Because there's so many people there's no sense of community, none of the trainers bother to chat to people. I've been there over a year now and loads of PTs have come and gone in that time - they clearly don't treat their workers well and that comes across since the PTs only talk to you if they think they're going to get a new client out of it. I've seen them whispering about people with bad form and doing things wrong - shouldn't you be going and giving them advice? is "your deadlifts are good but you need to straighten your back" or "to prevent knee problems you should make sure your knee doesn't go past your toes when lunging" so difficult to say? the best athletes in the world would happily help someone out but apparently the knowledge and experience PureGym staff PTs have is so out of the world that those that pay extra are worth a tip. The amount of people packed in there is the main thing that makes me want to leave though, it's just too obviously a profit driven machine that doesn't actually care about the health and fitness of people.

I use their mobile app to book but you can book up to a week in advance and some classes e.g. spin, go very quick. You don't NEED to book as long as you turn up 10 mins early occasionally someone will cone into once the class is full who has booked,in which case they'd ask someone that isnt booked to volunteer to leave. So have another workout in mind just in case, I've only seen this happen twice though in over a year.

“pure gym will decline if customer service not improved”

★★★☆☆

written by NoahFox on 31/01/2015

When I first joined Reading, it was a lovely gym. Due to new management and money grabbing maybe from Head office I have had to walk away. Pg has brought even more paid classes, intro GRIT . The management have taken off popular classes or changed timings without consulting it's regular members that attend the class. This has caused upset, poor class attendance, or people going elsewhere. Paying the same monthly fee, but all classes free to members. Also other gyms consult members before changes. Also others use common sense and don't remove a popular class. There is a few good pt's there, but they are overworked with classes, doing 15hours and not being paid for, or looked after, this is not right. Pure gym should look after it's members and consult their members and staff. No doubt pure gym will open more sites, but if not careful within a few years, will have to close sites.
