“Avoid!”

★☆☆☆☆

I am very disappointed with this Baumatic BCG600SS cooker, the worst I have ever used in sixty years. The stainless steel looks good and solid and it has a useful storage drawer, but that's where the good points end. The cooker is completely unfit for purpose. The oven burns the bottom of pastry, cakes, bread etc., while leaving the top undercooked, regardless of the position in the oven. If you open the door for a few seconds to put something else in, the temperature drops right down and takes several minutes to get back up. The grill only toasts the middle section, and takes a long time even to do that. The hob burners take ages to bring anything to the boil or back to the boil. The engineer has been twice but says there is no manufacturing fault, though he admitted the design is poor. The excuse is that it is a "continental oven" and so the hottest part is at the bottom. To distribute the heat evenly he advised putting a silver baking tray on the bottom shelf. This works up to a point, but the silver tray soon gets blackened by the extreme heat! In any case, it wouldn't be necessary if the oven was correctly designed. The excuse given by Baumatic is that no-one on the Continent bakes any more! A further disadvantage is that the oven thermostat is marked in Baumatic's own numbers which don't correspond with normal Gas Marks in recipes. In addition, the engineer found that the actual oven temperatures are way out from what the manual says they should be. In his view the manual is wrong! Baumatic's customer care is very poor. It took several weeks before I got a reply to my complaint and even longer before the engineer came. So if you want a cooker that looks good and somewhere to store your baking trays etc., this one's fine. If you actually want to cook, avoid it at all costs!

I too had a Baumatic cooker some years ago. I also had the problem of the food getting burnt, and some uncooked. When I called in the engineer, his words were the cooker I had purchased wasn't really that good for actually cooking, but was more of a glorified microwave. the above comment is correct, if you really need to cook, don't use the Baumatic..

I have been given a Baumatic oven to cook with in a children's respite home, where I am the cook. What a load of rubbish! Tried making fairy cakes and every time they burn!!! called out engineer twice now, first one told me that the thermostat had broken- only been installed one week, waiting for second engineer to come ou. If no luck am demanding it goes back and I get a more reliable cooker AVOID like the plague!
