Wildhearts, Urge [cd1] - October Of 1997 Saw The M

Wildhearts, Urge [CD1] - October of 1997 saw the Mushroom Records release of the 'Urge' singles, which formed the second single to come from the album 'Endless Nameless'. Like the 'Anthem' singles, 'Urge' was brought out on two CDs and a 7" vinyl, which sported a joint total of five extra B-Sides. The single managed to slot itself in at number 26 in the UK charts. Here we have part one of the CDs.

The track listing is as follows:

1. Urge

2. Fugazi (Do The Fake)

3. Kill Me To Death

'Urge' is just one of those tracks that just seems to work so damn well. It blasts out some of the deepest bass I've ever heard, combined with wild distortion and unforgettable vocals. 'Urge' is a fantastic industrial rock anthem that grows on you with every listen.

The second track on the single is the bouncy ditty named 'Fugazi (Do The Fake)'. Ginger's vocals are very predominant on the song as it delivers bone-crunching riffs together with a host of haunting melodies to put a smile on any Wildhearts fan. This one track hasn't really followed in-step with the distorted, white noise of the Endless Nameless era, but rather reverts back to classic-style Wildhearts.

'Kill Me To Death' is an awesome track with peaceful, soul -arming verses that creep into twisted choruses packed with distortion and stomach churning bass. The bridge in the middle of the song is almost ambient in feel, with perhaps a bizarre sprinkle of the Sisters Of Mercy. It all seems to fit perfectly together, creating a classic addition to the 'Endless Nameless' era of industrial/punk/pop/rock. Nothing short of genius.
