HAGSTAR

This Was A Very Special Family Meal And The 11 Of

This was a very special family meal and the 11 of us decided to eat at Scraggs Restaurant as the meals and service has been excellent in the past. Although the Restaurant is now under new management and no way near the high standard it used to give.

As soon as we entered the Restaurant, the Restaurant manager was very hostile towards us, even though this was not told to us until we were leaving the Restaurant the manager insisted that we were meant to be at the Restaurant for 7:30pm but it was booked for 8:00pm by a family member. This was there main reason for the food being of a low standard.

STARTER

A couple of family members wished to change there pre-order of King Prawns to Mussels as this was on the specials board but we were unable to do this. One starter was stated in menu as "Traditional Sardinian Gnocchi" which was served as pasta shells?! Most of the King Prawn starters were not tossed in garlic butter.

DRINKS

We only bought one drink each due to the prices - £2.50 for a bottle of Stella?! £2.50 for a Glass of House Wine?! The only Beer on Tap was Boddingtons, which they served but we took back due to it being off.

MAIN MEALS

T-Bone Steak was cremated at one end, therefore 2 family members ended up waiting for their meals and others had finished by the time they had started theres! One Fillet Steak was cooked as medium-well instead of medium-rare. Fish was overcooked and swimming in oil. We were given the Cauliflower Cheese late as family members had finished their meals, also the Cauliflower Cheese tasted like Rice Pudding?! The Veg was burnt and swimming in oil, actually the meals were also swimming in oil. We were asked if we would like any sauces or pepper too late as most of us had finished our meals.

EXCUSES

As we explained how disappointed we were with the meals and also the hostile attitude of the head waitress (manager) we were given excuses to why the meals were like they were - the main excuse was that we had booked for 7:30pm and were late as we arrived at 8:00pm. At this point we should have asked to look at the list of bookings for that day, as we defiantly know it was booked for 8:00pm. Due to a lot of us eating our meals they kept referring to it not being that bad as we had eaten it - but this was due to the very expensive prices of the meals and hunger! Therefore I do suggest that if you do ever have any problems with meals in a Restaurant do not hesitate in taking the meal straight back as this way they cannot use this excuse and demand that you pay. The Head Waitress insisted that Gnocchi is shell pasta and actually started arguing with us on this matter, but we have since checked and found that we were correct "Gnocchi are small Italian dumplings made from polenta (Italian corn meal) or semolina, flour or potatoes.

CONCLUSION

The Customer service is terrible, you are not treated as customers in this Restaurant we were talked down to as though we were school children. We were not offered any refund even though we had complained over many aspects of the meal. In the end we had to ask for a refund, which they were very reluctant to give - Of a bill that came to £205 they only knocked off £25 due to the beer being off and the steak being cremated. The Chef also spoke to us and he was not very sorry at all-he just wanted his money and blamed it on us as we were late, according to him! We really feel that we were ripped off and in hindsight should have sent all the meals back and walked out. They also could do with customer service training, as their manner was appalling .

I would not recommend this Restaurant at all-it ruined a very special family meal for us.
