“Very slooooooow to pay”

Written on: 04/01/2017 by MarbleHill (1 review written)

Sent a MacBook Air on 30 Nov 2016, machine graded on 9 December 2016, quote accepted and finally got paid on 4 January 2017. Whole process took 23 business days - their website claims they aim to everything done in 5 business days. I wouldn't have been paid at all had I not called on 3 separate days to remind them… Read Full Review

“Rip off”

Written on: 21/12/2013

What they don't tell you because it's intentionally buried in their terms and conditions is that they will on receipt of your device say it's in worse condition than it is and say it's £34 to return your device so you are forced to agree. I was told my pristine iPad that went into a cover on day one had substantial scratches and a dent. A flat out lie but obviously uneconomic for me too complain this us how they make their money… Read Full Review

“Do not trust this company!”

Written on: 19/11/2013 by LukeOliver93 (1 review written)

I originally chose to sell my White MacBook to 'Mac 4 Cash' because they were offering £70 more than any other company that I had received a quote from both online and in person, 'Mac 4 Cash' offered me £177 for my MacBook (Grade C) and allowed me to select a collection date. My Mac was collected by an external company, the collection process was simple and easy, pop your Mac into the box provided by the external company, seal the box and sign the documentation provided. My Mac was… Read Full Review

“Avoid at all costs”

Written on: 13/11/2013

Sent them a fully functioning laptop with some scratches and cracks and was told the DVD drive didn't work (not true- in fact, I was using this laptop right up until I sent it to Mac4Cash). They used this to justify offering far less than originally quoted- just £35. Of course, I could have it sent back to me but that will cost £34. Starting to think I should have video documented the condition of my laptop beforehand. Would seriously advise anyone else to avoid this company like the plague… Read Full Review

I am sorry you feel like this as unfortunately your machine wasn't as you claimed on your quote entry. Yes the DVD drive was faulty and as we explained to you this had been faulty for a considerable amount of time as the DVD drive wouldn't accept any disk into the mechanism. This happens after disks have been repeatably entered into a faulty drive. I think its particularly unfair that you haven't mentioned the other information you omitted during your initial quote such as a Foreign keyboard and screen marks!! Would you buy something from someone if you turned up at their house and they had been flexible with the truth??

First I've heard that the keyboard was foreign. Not that you list this as something you'd knock down the quote based on- yet another sneaky way of reducing the amount you pay no doubt.

Let me stress that you *did not* explain that my drive had been faulty for a considerable amount of time- please clarify how would anyone even know the length of time a piece of hardware had been faulty for? No, you simply told me it was faulty, which I found surprising given that, yes- I was using this drive just the week before I sent it off.

I explained the state of my laptop to the best of my knowledge and expected at most to have it dropped one grade for the tiny scuffs on the screen. I did not expect two grade drops or to have you turn around and accuse me of being a liar. You have a lot to learn about customer relations, although I'm not at all surprised to see you resort to defamation given how this whole shoddy transaction has been dealt with!

If nothing else, now other people reading these reviews can see exactly how much respect you have for your customers and may think twice before dealing with you.

Firstly yes we do explain in the terms and conditions what is acceptable and we state the keyboard must be UK.
I think this is a lesson to describe things accurately rather than to the best of your knowledge or wrongly.

We are actually your customer as we are buying goods from you which by your own admission wasn't correct.
Yes I think people will see this review for what it is.

I stand correct. Yes, you do indeed have a line in your T&Cs regarding a UK QWERTY keyboard, however I simply don't understand what makes my keyboard non-UK and you've done nothing to clarify this either here or on your website. I bought this Macbook in the UK, the keyboard is QWERTY and there were no foreign characters on there. What is to stop you pulling this trick again on anyone else whenever you want to save £10 when you don't specify by what criteria you class a keyboard as UK? I should also mention your reply above was the first I heard from you that my keyboard was non-UK. This tells me one of two things: either you purposefully chose to keep quiet about docking £10 from the quote for this reason or, upon reading some negative feedback, you then went back to scrutinize my machine to find any little quibble you could to further your cause and paint me as a liar.

As for your comment about describing something accurately... I'm curious how anything can be described any better than to the best of someone's knowledge. Please explain how I'm supposed to know more about something than I can know about it?

Until I accept your payment or (as is looking more likely the case) buy my allegedly non-functional, non-UK laptop back off you, I'm neither your customer or you mine. In either case, it does not entitle you to accuse me of lying because you find the feedback you've received not in your favour.

As it was explained to you your keyboard is US it hasn't got a pound symbol and the @ key is in a different position to a UK keyboard meaning when set as UK to gain a £ the keyboard has a wrong layout. All of your emotional claims are beside the point to this. We clearly mark out what is within the parameters of the grades in an easily accessable button right next to the grade box on the quote form. It tells you clearly what grade a unit with screen marks is graded by us. As well as foreign keyboards etc. If you think somehow your grading system is better then the system obviously isn't going to work.
How can you honestly think we should buy the unit off you for the price quoted when essentially the unit is only fit for stripping for the working parts. You didn't read the T&C or the grading info or you chose to ignore them. Then you claim we are trying to be sneaky or some how dishonest!! Its quite amazing. Everything is transparent, we cant however compensate for a lack of users accuracy or simply thinking we wont notice screen marks, foreign keyboards and faulty DVDs.

First of all, this is the first time you've even stated my keyboard is US layout. This has not been "explained to me" (as anyone following this thread (and still conscious) will see). In fact, you've only just today got around to mentioning my keyboard was anything other than UK at all! Neither was it explained in your email responses, which I'm more than happy to post here as further if required. You either can't keep your own story straight or you haven't been bothered to check the correspondence I've had with your company.

Thank you for clarifying why my keyboard is non-UK by your definition, but I still note there is no mention on your website of how to tell if your keyboard is UK or not. A difference of two keys really doesn't make it obvious at all. You'd do well to make this a lot clearer, as a quick Google shows there are many other UK Mac users curious as to how to locate the pound symbol. In other words, there's a lot of potential Mac4Cash customers/whatever-we're-called who are completely unaware you will automatically knock £10 off the asking price because the keyboard does not meet your precise standards.

I'm a little confused by your odd comments... can I ask what emotional claims you believe I'm making that are beside the point? (Assuming you don't just sidestep this question the same way you did regarding why I wasn't told the keyboard was non-UK until now or how I'm expected to know something beyond my best knowledge)

As for the price offered, you're clearly misunderstanding me. I am not saying you must buy the unit off me for the originally quoted price. As I said before, I accepted it might drop a grade and that I may not necessarily receive the quote price (as your T&Cs helpfully stated). What I was not expecting was a two grade drop, amounting to almost £100 less than offered. Moreover, I was not expecting to be told the unit was not in the condition I knew it was in before it was handed to your courier. This is why I felt the need to make my original complaint here. I have very little to gain from this transaction, especially in light of your generous offer price- do you really think I would continue this debate at such lengths if I didn't feel I had good reason to do so?

Finally, you really should refrain from suggesting I purposefully chose to ignore the T&Cs or that I was somehow hoping to get one over on you with this- it does you no favours.

It's a shame you feel that a 1 star review was necessary considering you provided false information about the computer you were selling to us. Even with the revised price we paid more than other companies would. We had a fire in our offices and still managed to pay you very quickly so this is an extremely unfair review.

1 star is the worst score possible and we did an excellent job with this transaction despite your failure to properly describe the computer in question so it is quite baffling that you think 1 star is fair!

“A failed transaction and a broken mac”

Written on: 02/03/2013

PLEASE, PLEASE, do not use this service, here is my experience. I was quoted £550 for my mac, i was happy with this, and I sent it in. 2 weeks later i received an e-mail saying they could only pay me £250, I was stupidly lazy and agreed to this. 3 weeks later, no cheque, no e-mail, nothing, so I ask for my mac back. 2 weeks later, they charge me £20 to have it sent back. HERE IS THE KICKER I decide to keep my mac and get it repaired, the screen now doesn't work, it worked fine before… Read Full Review

Hi there, I am very sorry that you fell that we have 'mugged you off' but in truth we tested your machine and found several faults so we had to change our quotation.

It seems that somebody else had 'mugged you off' before we even laid hands on your machine as it had been opened up by somebody else previously.

“Great. If you like waiting and being lied to.”

Written on: 09/02/2013 by obzy (1 review written)

Just received a cheque for the wrong amount. Continually lied to and fobbed off every step of the way. Would never use them again. Sent this email - to give you a reminder of the excuses they come up with. After waiting for over four weeks, making numerous telephone calls and being lied to on several occasions, you have sent me the WRONG payment. As you can see from the attached email you sent, £285 was agreed. However, you have sent me a cheque for £270. The cheque is also dated 4/01/13… Read Full Review

I still haven't heard from them about my MacBook. When I called them, they said they can't find my MacBook and said UK mail has lost the item.. Every time I contacted them, they said they were supposed to get more news soon so they'd let me know. Have I heard from them? No! I'll be calling them till they find my MacBook. Meanwhile, seeking help from local authorities etc.

“Good money, if you can get hold of it”

Written on: 03/01/2013 by Mick_B (1 review written)

After googling similar websites, Mac4Cash seemed to offer the best price and ease of use. My Macbook Pro was collected on the 26th October, as it stated. On the 29th I got an email saying it was awaiting testing, and on the 31st I got an email giving me a new offer which I thought was fair. I sent an email back straight away accepting. Thought the money would help over Christmas. I think it says wait 7 days for you cheque to arrive on their website. Well here I am on the 3rd January 2013 after… Read Full Review

10 were written on 06/09/12
And others a day or so either side of these dates.

I have investigated this review as we take bad reviews seriously. You were customer number 50137 . You're laptop was re quoted within 3 days of booking in due to the unit not being of the grade claimed. We
then wait for the customer to contact us after the automatic email is sent. This is the part that has shocked me you have stated that you rang 7 times. In our system that logs calls from the account holder we only have 1 on the 3rd accepting the quote. I apologies if something has gone wrong as its normally a fool proof system. We process over 800 units per month so generally we have to be tight with our process. You're particular unit was at the lowest end of our buy back we average at around £650-£800 per unit we haven't got any reason to hold back £200 as this ends in bad reviews. As for you're further comments about the reviews we send out batches of cheques so most people get there cheques around the same time that might go toward explaining you're theory's on our reviews. We have this review section on our site in plain view our users can write comments easily if they are happy or have an issue we are confident of our service hence our choice to add this box.

Your system is that foolproof, that you have got the wrong number. I was 50138. I have finally got my cheque, which is supposedly the "3rd" cheque you have sent due to them being "lost in the post". What's funny about this is that even though it was the "3rd" cheque you've sent, it was the first time I had received an email saying 'the status of my quotation has been changed to "cheque issued"'. Why didn't I receive this email the first or second time you supposedly sent a cheque?

Also with regards to me contacting you accepting the quote, I received the new quote on 31 October 2012 at 11:31:09, and I replied accepting the quote on 31 October 2012 at 11:38:03. I have the emails.

The system only gets updated with cheque issued once the quote has been accepted. We don't have any emails on our system from you or any record of 7 phone calls. The reason it sat as requoted is that we didn't have any contact from you.

So you're saying I never rang or emailed? Why would I not be in touch until January, when I wanted the money to help over christmas. And I hardly have trust in your phone log system, when your number goes through to someone on the desk at your other company, Portable Universe.

All I'm saying is it took multiple phone calls to get hold of the money, over 2 months after giving you the laptop. I was told my cheque was lost twice. Why would you tell me this? Surely your foolproof system should have told who over was taking (and supposedly logging) the phone call that I supposedly hadn't accepted the offer? Just face it, nobody had a clue what was happening whenever I rang. It may be a one off case and you're good the other 99% of the time, but I've left this review because of how much of a frustrating process it was.

“I intended to sell my macbook pro to them for a quote...”

I intended to sell my macbook pro to them for a quote of £300. But they came back to me after 3 weeks claiming that my laptop was in bad condition, both the video card and mother board have serious flaws and gave me a new quote of £50. Hi. Sorry you feel this way. I am simply going to reiterate the terms and conditions which you agreed to upon accepting the quote. In the event that we discover a fault or faults with your machine we will re-quote in relation to the cost of us repairing the machine for re-sale.

We buy hundreds of machines every month through Mac4Cash and each has to be tested using the Apple Hardware Test and other methods of testing for at least 72 hours. This can often lead to quite a long queue of machines to be tested leading to longer waits for payment, that is why we pay more than our competitors.

The Apple Hardware Test often finds errors which describes the fault and we have no choice but to reduce our offer price. Also the machine in question was 5 years old which leaves even more possibility for faults and the logic board and video faults will cost at the very least £250 to repair, please feel free to check that out.

Also with regards to the £38 return fee, this is essential as we have had to send a large crate to collect your machine in the first place, then we have to spend time testing the machine. And then we must send it back all at a cost to us. If we just sent machines back for free then we would unfortunately lose a lot of money.

In the terms and conditions it does specify quite clearly that any faults with the machine must be described using the grading system so that we have good faith between the customer and us. If there are faults we simply cannot pay the original quote amount for a faultless machine as this is a business.

As you say, you have the machine back now anyway, at no cost to yourself as a gesture of good will. Unfortunately a 1 star review has appeared but I am sure others will read both sides of the situation and understand that this really is a non issue.
