Color problem experienced when trying to play Region 1 DVD's after unlocking but that was solved after fliping the switch on the back of the unit to PAL and powering the unit back on!!!! Easy to use player with overall great product espesially for it's price.

I bought an LG DVD5353 (very similar to the DVD5253). The price/quality ratio is EXCELLENT. It's user friendly, the picture quality is really good... no comments whatshowever; this is exactly what I wanted for the price. And I got 3 free DVD titles with it also !
I haven't got mine yet (next 2 days) but here are some useful sites

i originally went out and bought the Dansai 955 but i wasn't happy with the picture - i found it to be blurry and the sound seemed to be dull through my Marantz sr6200 amplifier - so i took it back to Tesco's and went to Curry's and bought an LG DVD 5253 dvd player and i must say the picture and sound quality is a lot better than the Dansai. Even when i play my music cd's on it the sound is good. Currys are now selling them for £89 with 3 free dvd titles...and i have hacked it to become multiregion. So there you have it. Thats my opinon....
Good review. The only problem I find with mine is colour reception which I can't seem to find a way to change. My TV is new so that cna't be the problem but all the films I play through the DVD seem to have a distinct greenish tinge. Any helpful comments or instructions would be gratefully received.
Hi,
I have an LG TV, Video and dvd player bought as a package deal . The dvd player is a LG 5253 i have done a hack to play vcd's and it works fine, am wondering if there is a hack for this player to enable dvd-r to play on it as well? many thanks

This colour problem could be because your Tv doesn't convert to NTSC rather than the normal PAL. Region 1 disks will generally all be NTSC. Try it on a newer TV and you'll see if thats the problem.
What hack are you refering too..colour change? Where did you get this hack from?
I've found the hack to have a colour problem with region 1 discs. I get a swap to b/w after inserting the region 1 disk, and the movie has all the colour mixed up (red seems to be blue etc) - but it plays ok as black and white - menu works, etc -
any ideas? - the hack seems fine with region 2 disks, (default) - bought in uk LG5253 from curries Jan '03
