I Have Owned This Camera For More Than Three Years

I have owned this camera for more than three years. I have no desires to upgrade this camera, as it is already very sophisticated and feature-packed. Occassionally, I will bring my other SLR (Canon Elan IIe) with me (along with G2) just because it allows me to zoom in my objects with 300mm telephoto lense. Aside from its excellent image quality and standard point and shoot features, I find this camera is particularly useful when I am not sure of the picture results due to lighting. This camera will automatically take pictures with +1 expo and -1 expo to let me choose the best one. I was so impressed to see the result of Cinderella Castle in Disney World at night. As I inidicated, the price is the downside. I can't complain much because I bought this camera when it first just came out. My other friends ended up paying for half of the price about one and half years later. Although I pointed out that this camera has limitation on movie mode, I ended up not using it that much. I truly believe that DV does this job better than still image camera, so most of time I use DV for movies.

This Is My First Digital Camera And I Was Amazed W

This is my first digital camera and I was amazed when I saw the first shot. I've upgraded to the 10D now and passed the G2 onto my wife.

I Can't Begin To Express My Frustration And Disapp

I can't begin to express my frustration and disappointment. My 2mega pixel Canon shoots better pictures. It's hit and miss with quality, mostly being miss!

The real killer is you CAN NOT update their firmware...meaning no updates.

What is so wrong with a heavy camera? I think it makes it feel solid and professional.

I have no idea why this user finds the Canon Powershot G2 to be a bad camera. Perhaps he has not used it properly. I own one for the past 1 year and I have taken at least 1000 pics with it in all conditions and at all distances. I find it totally satisfactory and a joy to use.

I Have A Couple Of Canon 35mm Slr's And A Stack Of

I have a couple of Canon 35mm SLR's and a stack of lenses and accessories, so perhaps the choice of the Canon Powershot G2 for digital is not so suprising... except this is not one of those with interchangeable lenses, so it was selected entirely on it s own merit.

The G2 has been a complete delight - 4M pixel resolution (that's about 2200 x 1700) produces sharp clear images.

I've used it extensively indoors and outdoors and haven't found anything that fazes it. Colour rendition is... I was about to say "vibrant" but that's a separate option, rather, if you are a transparency user I would say that the colour rendition is more like Fujichrome (velvia, etc) than Kodachrome.

But, in addition to the camera's characteristics, the supplied software installed on my XP Pro platform first time. Upload, download and remote capture have worked without any problems... with the possible exception of the bundled Photoshop LE, but that could have been due to 3rd party plug-ins, and the problems have been no worse than with any other application.

When deciding my purchase, I was initially in favour of the Minolta's, but the slightly better form factor, my experience with Canon and - at my retailer - a better deal made the deal, ensured the Powershot G2 won the day.

When I embark on a little astrophotography the ability to download RAW (unprocessed) CCD will be a boon...

No regrets at all and nothing but a "buy" recommendation for those who can afford it.

I Bought The Canon Powershot G2 With The 1gb Micro

I bought the Canon Powershot G2 with the 1GB Microdrive at the beginning of October. It's a terrific combination which allows the camera's remarkable abilities to be fully exploited. The Microdrive can store approx 500 images with superfine compression and highest resolution (approx 4 mega-pixels)and over 1500 images with fine compression and medium resolution (approx. 2 megapixels). Excellent for long distance travellers like me.

In many respects the Canon Powershot G2 is similar to it's predecessor. All the camera's shooting and recording functions can be controlled using the neat and easily understood menu system displayed on the LCD and via the mode dial on the top of the camera. There are several specific controls like the macro, spot metering and flash buttons. There's also a display panel on top which shows camera settings etc. None of these features take long to get used to but a beginner might find it complicated.

The Canon Powershot G2 has Auto Mode for 'point and shoot'

At the moment ZoomBrowser EX is throwing up a warning when I reach approx. 100 images on the Microdrive but I expect this to be resolved.

I have no doubt that this is the best of the 6 Canon cameras I've owned in the last 20 years.
