I Have Had The Motorola V980 For 2 And A Half Year

I have had the Motorola V980 for 2 and a half years now. The phone has 3G which is a bonus, when I got it the phone was of the highest quality and still is rated good.

The Motorola V980 is a great phone, stylish and good features. I bought a long life battery and signal booster off Ebay now works fine.

I Was Going To Leave Vodafone, But Was Bought Off

I was going to leave vodafone, but was bought off by the claimed MP3 on the Motorola V980. I should have left.

I have always, until this Motorola, had Nokia phones. Some very good, all good, all completely reliable and with outstanding battery life.

With this Motorola I thought it would be nice, not only to load some favourite tracks to listen to but also to use them as ring-tones for friends and family (Ozzy's looped cough at the beginning of Sweet Leaf is a cracker for my wife).

What I didn't anticipate was that after only 3 - 4 short calls (fewer than 5 minutes) and text messages the damned thing would die on me, and as for listen to a track or 3 ....!

I don't understand why my wife's 40Gb MP3 can hold a charge for most of the day while playing any amount of Beethoven, Rossini, Mozart and Floyd, and Motorola use something about as good as an EverReady.

There are other minor glitches, but show me a 'phone that's perfect. However, I shall be returning to Nokia as soon as I can.

The V980, Just As A Phone, Is Pretty Good. It Does

The V980, just as a phone, is pretty good. It does the job like I like to say. I haven't had any drop out so far and the design of the phone while dated (it is Motorola we're talking about), it does the job.

The menu system is fairly easy to navigate even for a novice like me. I was using old Nokias and decided to upgrade, so that's a plus in my books.

The camera features 4 X zoom with both internal/external views, but to me that's only really a gimmick for the kiddies - or if you're on the 3 network.

It's the rise siz for a guy like me, not too bulky but not too thin.

My main gripe is that you can't the phone while it's charging - bad, bad, bad - this in itself disqualifies it from being a serious work phone. What were the peope at Motorola thinking when they did that. You can't have clients wait while the phone's charging. At least make the battery meter easier to read. Not sure what the new Motorolas are like. Not too sure whether I'm gamed to try them now.

it's lack of Bluetooth and the keypad which can be a bit fiddly.

At this stage, I'm not having any problems with drop outs so that's another plus.

The Motorola V980's Battery Won't Last A Day Betwe

The Motorola V980's battery won't last a day between charges if you make more than an hour of calls. Connects OK in full 3G coverage, but dithers and drops calls on 3G/GSM boundaries. Stopped using the phone (bought for the airtime deal, rather than 3G) and have stuffed the SIM into a Sony T68i. No problems, battery lasts a week and who needs video anyway!

My 3410 Was Dieing So Called Vodafone For An Upgra

My 3410 was dieing so called vodafone for an upgrade, it was the Motorola V980 release day and it was offered foc. First morning of use it averaged 2-3 bars signal strength (was full signal on 3410), disconnected 2 calls mid conversation then started averaging 0-2 bars signal, unable to call out even on 2 bars.

Replacement phone had even worse signal, first call was dropped midchat unable to dial again after that, during 10mins of attempts battery went from full to 1 bar. Being returned, no more V980s here.

Putting 5 stars for screen and features but only because I didn't have a chance to form an opinion (if you can't make calls with it, it sort of defeats the purpose of all the gadgets)

Exactly! it doesn't matter if you've got a brand new phone, video messaging sms photos etc.

If you can't dial out properly when you need to then what's the point?

But I suppose it's not actually the phone that's the problem it's the call provider (eg. vodaphone) and the area you are in.
