I Used This Software Because It Came With My New C
I used this software because it came with my new computer. I was transferring programs from Windows XP to Windows 7. Who knows where it put the programs that seemed to be there but almost impossible to find their location. I really think it totally messed up my new computer. Even after the "undo" I was not satisfied with the results.

Well I Guess The Only People That Write Reviews Ar
Well I guess the only people that write reviews are people that like to
complain.
I purchased PCMover Home 3 days ago, from the LapLink website.
The purchase went smoothly.
The install also went well.
The transfer is in my home.
The old machine is a Windows XP SP3 32 bit install.
The old machine is about 5 years olds, the drives are slow,
C: 75 gigabytes
D: 150 gigabytes
I was transferring 135 gigabytes (65 gigabytes are photos), over the home network.
The old machine is hard wired to the router, the new machine is wireless.
The new machine is Windows 7, 64 bit Ultimate.
Both machine have MS office installed, however I have the new version of office installed on the New Machine prior to running PCMover.
The transfer appeared to run smoothly, it took 26 hours to move 135gigabytes across the network. I expected to take a long time, the disks on the old machine are slow, and I expect it was not the network that was causing the long wait time.
The first attempt to transfer the Applications failed and I had to perform a system restore. In Windows 7, Microsoft has a feature which tries to fix a corrupt environment, but even this wouldn't work.
I contacted LapLink Tech support, and the first Tech support person gave me directions for the wrong product. So when I tried his directions of course they failed.
At this point PCMover had transfered all the data files to the new machine, however with out the applications I couldn't use many of them.
I contacted Tech support again in the evening, he confirmed that I could not follow the directions given by the guy in the morning.
He initially told me that I needed to have Microsoft debug the issue of
why my machine would not start after running their program.
I asked if Microsoft would charge me to diagnose the issue, and he didn't know.
So I asked that I be able to upgrade to the Pro version or have a refund.
I was passed off to Customer Support, they were very nice and after explaining that the product didn't work, and that I would like my money back, or be given a way to diagnose the problem with their product. They offered me a free upgrade to find the bugs that were causing the issue.
It was very nice of them to offer the upgrade for free to debug their product. However, I am now acting as a free QA analyst for their product.
Is it really a free upgrade at this point?
I un-installed the PCMover Home version, and installed the PCMover Pro version, new download and serial number. that went fine also.
Running the program again, I could now move less across the network because the Pro version lets you select what to transfer. I deselected almost everything, and select 10 applications that I wanted to keep.
My machine has a lot of stuff that I no longer use, but the expensive stuff that I paid for I wanted to transfer. I don't want to purchase adobe again,
I am sure the disks are kicking around the house somewhere. Also Rosetta Stone is another one that isn't cheap, so I wanted to move both of those apps to the new machine.
This time the program ran for about 15 minutes and it crashed on the old machine before it even started the transfer.
I contacted tech support again, they told me to turn on logging, I turned it on and I now have a 65megabyte log. I contacted them again, but they have
gone home for the evening.
This is fair, people need to sleep, and it is the evening before thanksgiving.
I found my adobe disks, after all, and installed it without a hitch.
I wonder if I actually needed to purchase this after all.
I will find the disks for my other apps, and reinstall them.
So if you can find you old install application disks,
don't bother with this program.
It is now 3 days later, and it is not running yet.
I will probably give up attempting to move the other apps soon and maybe repurchase what I can't find.

I'm Glad I Hadn't Read All The Reviews On Pc Mover
I'm glad I hadn't read all the reviews on PC Mover before buying it, because if I had, I would have avoided it like the plauge. Turns out I'm glad I used it and have recommended it to my friends. You do have to carefully study the directions first and have a battle plan prepared. I wrote out my step-by-step pre-install plans first, followed them closely, and had a positive overall experience. Yes, I have had to re-install a couple things since then, but the directions warn that that might be a possibility. Remember that anit-virus & anti-spyware software won't transfer, so plan for that. My only complaint is that the instructions didn't say anything about loading cable-drivers from the CD, which was necessary to get the machines the "see" the cable. Apart from that, once the transfer began (between 2 XP machines), I found it to be easy and quite intuitive. It did take a long time (6 hr.--lots of pictures), but was well worth it. This stuff does work, but do be well prepared before beginning.

Had I read these comments first I would not have purchased it either!! But I transferred from Windows XP to Windows XP through the provided USB cable and it took just a little over an hour. My old pc had a 1.0 USB and the new one has a 2.0 USB and after I set up the provided drivers, everything worked just fine ...it seems like everything transferred, even my favorites in Internet Explorer. Some of the programs didn't transfer, but they were like virus protection and other things you may not have to transfer this way. Maybe if you use the USB cable, it works better. It does seem to be a bit pricey for a one time use, but if it continues to work this well, it would be worth it compared to having a "professional" charge you to transfer your data and programs.

I've just recommended Laplink PC Mover to an online acquaintance, I was then directed to these reviews here and given those I probably wouldn't have bought it. Just thought I ought to point out it does work for some people.

Wish I had read these reviews first. Laplink PC Mover had problems all the way. Finally froze during transfer after about 4 hours to get that far. From what I read I'm lucky the transfer didn't happen.
