“Glad they've shut down!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mommybearjulie13 on 09/01/2019

At first extra energy were a good company. Reasonable prices. However, when I moved I discovered something different.... Despite having CREDIT on my meter, they've tried to bill me for over £600! They said it was from a previous address, then kept getting the addresses and account numbers mixed up. I've made several complaints and demanded to know where the supposed "£600 bill" came from. And also queried why they couldn't refund me the £50 credit on my account when I left. No straight answers! Scottish Power will be taking over from extra energy and I'm glad of that.

“Appalling company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/05/2018

From my experience I would not recommend anyone to use Extra Energy. There are many reviews online including on Which and MoneySavingExpert that would reflect my feelings. Having moved into a house supplied by Extra Energy I had no alternative but to be supplied by them for the few weeks it took me to set up an account with another supplier. They supplied me for 3 weeks for Gas ONLY and I was shocked to receive an extortionate bill for nearly £80 (I'm in a small 2 bed house). Communication with their Customer Service to appeal this proved futile. Their customer service staff repeating set scripts like soulless robots. Their argument being that I could have had a cheaper tariff if I had taken out a fixed price tariff contract, thus signing up for a year (sure!!). But because I was forced into being supplied by them until I could get a different supplier set up, of course I didn't want a 1 year contract... therefore they charged me an expensive tariff because I was trapped in to using them for those 3 weeks. Avoid! They do not care about their customers, just their money.

“DO NOT USE this company!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by simonred on 15/11/2017

DO NOT USE this company! they are very quick to take on your business but then once you become a customer our experience is that they will put EVERY obstacle in your path when it comes to replying to queries and general account handling. One day they will speak to you on the phone and the next time insist that they can't due to the dreaded Data Protection rules which makes any communication less enjoyable than pulling your own teeth out. if you have a lifetime to deal with such matters, enjoy being treated with complete contempt and love a battle then this is the firm for you I don't and would not go anywhere near them!

“WARNING - SIGNING UP/USING THIS OUTFIT WILL COST YOU!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Youngjj1981 on 24/10/2017

Fortunately, I have now left this awful, horrible, so-called very devious and nasty utility provider and have, thank the Lord, moved my electricity to Octopus Energy, who are outstanding in comparison to Extra Energy!!! Extra Energy have absolutely dreadful 'customers services'!?! are non existent! Be warned, their sales contracts/sign up department will constantly lie to you and sign you up on as long tied in contract as possible, based completely on non-factual standing unit charges and horrendous usage rates! Once you are in their evil grips, they will MASSIVELY HIKE UP YOUR MONTHLY PRICES, WITHOUT YOU KNOWING & ON THE SLY, TO RIDICULOUS RANDOM NON SENSICALE FIGURES AND FREELY PULL OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS VIA DIRECT DEBIT WHATEVER THEY SO CHOOSE, AGAIN, WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, NOTIFICATION OR ANY FORM OF CONTACT!!! FACT!!! DO NOT EVER USE EXTRA ENERGY - EVER!!!! THEY RE ALSO BEING HEAVILY INVESTIGATED BY OFGEM AND THE OMBUDSMAN FOR THEIR VERY BAD AND TOTALLY WRONGFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! THAT SHOULD RING VERY LOUND WARNING BELLS TO ANYONE EVEN CONTEMPLATING SWITCHING TO THEM!!! ALSO, DO NOT BELEIVE ALL THESE '5 STAR' JUST SWTICHING REVIEWS WHICH ARE BEING COAXED TO NEW SING-UP CUSTOMERS BY EXTRA ENERGY SALES DEPT. AND LEFT ON TRUSTPILOT IN FACT, TRUSTPILOT ARE JUST AS BAD AS EXTRA ENERGY BY ALLOWING THESE TO BE LEFT ON THEIR SITE!!! PLEASE -JUST AVOID BOTH!!!

“awful communicator”

during 18 months supply extra energy charge more to each direct debit.they now owe me in excess of 3400 AS I CLOSED MY ACCOUNT AT BEGINNIG OF OCT.I have spent 40 mins on telephone being passed to the wrong dept. It is almost impossible to get reasonably contact with them and they are deliberately slow to sort out meter readings. I will be forced to resort to legal action to recover my money I would not recommend them at all

“not even worthy of a rating”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lawkr479 on 10/10/2017

having apparently been on a no contract contract since 2014 without my knowledge hey have now presented me with a bill for just shy of £3000. apparently they did not know who the occupiers were and took no action to find out, I have been under the assumption in was with British Gas as I have been paying them. Threatened to cut off my gas on the 2nd October and turned up at one of my offices to apparently do so today with an alleged Warrant which he was unable to produce. yes I am a law firm and when I spoke to the guy from one of my other offices and told him I would be over in 15 minutes to discuss this face to face he legged it. next step ombudsman and possibly legal action for extortion. Really worried my receptionist such disgraceful behaviour needs teaching a lesson

“avoid at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by disgustedJohn on 02/08/2017

This company offers great energy costs, but at the cost of being a company you cannot work with, the customer service is non-existent you cant get anything resolved by either phone or e-mail. If all goes smoothly you will get a great deal, until you have problems or try to put in meter readings that they dont like. No support at all

Should be no energy, no bills, no customer service, no answer phones, no answer emails.

“Unhelpful customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rashelbh on 28/07/2017

I have used extra energy for my electricity and gas. I can say they are absolutely rubbish. Interms of energy and pricing of gas and electricity is too expensive. They'll give you cheaper price at the beginning so you take them then they will change it within two months. You cannot leave them because you will have to pay £20 for electricity and £20 for gas before leaving. Also they will put meter readings unrealistic so you will end up paying 6 months worth of bills which you have not. If you challenge them they give your details to credit recovery service. So your credit records will be very bad. When I called to resolve the problem I had to be on the phone for 1 hour and 45 minutes because they don't have experience stuff to deal with the situation. even senior assistant didn't seem to recognise the problem. So I'll never go with extra energy for rest of my life.

“21 days for refund!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/07/2017

The worst customer service ever. I had to increase my direct debit just to get a refund of £161.41 which they owe ME. . And it's July so not using much. Was told 3 July that refund would be sent, but after checking on 6th and calling them was told it takes 21 days to process. What rubbish. They are earning interest that's why they don't want to refund!!! In April when I owed Extra Energy £12.16 they insisted I paid this by debit card before they would keep my payments for dual fuel at £43.00. My contract is up in October and I will be leaving, and I advise anyone and everyone not to join them. They put their prices up one month after I signed.

“Extra Energy are the worst company ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Colin_Scott2 on 23/06/2017

I moved to Extra Energy and the bills were the same as my supplier to start with, then after 6 months they trebled my bill. When I spoke to an advisor she couldn't answer the most basic of questions and got upset when I had the cheek to point out she was wrong on a few points. I get a different answer each time I call them and when I put my figures into a comparison website the bill from other companies are a third of Extra Energy. They seem to have huge service charges regardless of how much energy you use. DO NOT use this company, they are useless and are out to rip the customer off and have the worst customer service I've ever encountered. If I could rate them less than 1 star I would.

extraenergy is a company that's offer champagne, but delivers lemonade, offering call back, I'm still waiting. They make deald they can not uphold, when asked about there deals the are very evasive, though some of the staff do try, it seems there complaints department pull the strings. (shame as some staff seem genuine)

“Worst energy supplier ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ryvita01 on 06/04/2017

Worst energy supplier I have ever had to deal with. I have a number of rented properties and extra energy sounded like a good company to work with to begin with, I was very wrong. They would send bills on accounts that had been closed, put supply on incorrect tariffs and send estimated bills when accurate readings were sent. Was all very frustrating, especially when you wanted to leave. Although some staff were friendly and seemed helpful the bills were a mess and you would get told different things by different staff which would confuse things. I would never recommend extra energy and urge to stay away.

“Where do I beign...?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Copelandcb1982 on 03/04/2017

I joined extra energy late in 2014 as my energy bills were quite high. I did get a good deal with them at first, bills were much lower. However I only recently received an email (early 2017) saying I owed them over £400. I rang to discuss clearing the debt and they said they wanted nearly £50 a month off me because they wanted it paid back within a year. I told them I could not afford this as I'm on a low income. I e-mailed them a budget sheet showing them the amounts I could and could not afford and made them a monthly payment offer. However they did not accept this. They continued to pursue me for the debt by affecting my credit report and getting debt companies to contact me. I made a complaint to customer services and they are messing around with getting back to me. When I call I am passed from one department to another and my issue is never resolved. I know they have received the complaint and the budget sheet as they sent me an email to confirm that they had received them. Yet they deny this when I speak to them on the phone. I will be going back to citizens advice soon if my situation is not resolved and may have to go as far as the ombudsmen. May I also stipulate that the bill they sent me was for £489, yet when the debt collection called me they were only asking for £210. It's likely that I don't owe as much money as they say I do. I also question why they are billing me after 2 years of me not having an account with them. It is suspicious. I advise anyone NOT to go near extra energy. What they are doing is actually against the law but they don't care as long as they can try and terrify people into getting money!

“No final bill for the last 3 months - 6 weeks after...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by davepanter on 28/03/2017

I left Extra energy 6 weeks ago and am unable to get a final bill despite paying by direct debit and now owed money by them - they blame Iresa who I moved to and Iresa says its Extra energys fault as there MOP's team hasn't sent them the meter point information required which is required when sending the final reading Iresa has escalated the problem and Extra energy has highlighted the problem and says it may take up to 12 weeks to resolve, it appears to me someone is playing games or being spiteful, I for one will never ever return to Extra energy, the last bill I got from them was up till the 22nd November 2016 despite paying by direct debit every month, I have worked out what I owe them and I am due a refund of over £80. I think it is fair to say there customer services are non-existant and any savings made with them are not worth the aggravation which follows

“dreadful and totally incompetent”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PresleyGonzales492 on 08/03/2017

Simply I would not recommend this company and I will certainly not be using again. - Left the company after they could not switch my account on moving in to 'consumer' account from a business one. - Received first bill Months after leaving them with a standing charge of £79 (from a £22 bill) - Still waiting for a charge for electric bill (requested told 'the bill will come in the post') - I was told I could not complain given there is not a 'name' on the account. This suggests an appalling IT system given this should be possible with only the account number. (Inconsistent customer service ) - Customer service told me that they were 'Online only' even though I do not have an online account, then they told me that they do send bills

“Avoid at all cost. Worst company ever.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BigIain1234 on 14/02/2017

Avoid extraenergy at all cost, because any association with them will cost you dearly. Dishonest billing, ignoring customer reads for their own estimates. Refuses to wave leaving fees even though contrcat period ended. I wouldnt trust this shower as far as i can spit a rat. STAY AWAY FROM THEM

It took me 7 months and phoning them every day before I got my credit back. They sent me three incorrect bills too. They will do anything to hold onto your money. They also lie when you phone up, saying the person you need to speak to is in a meeting etc. I wouldn't go back to them if my life depended on it. Had to get the ombudsman involved in the end but it still took months

I left 8 months ago because their Service was poor to non-existent! My balance was a small amount in the red, (I owed them a few quid), but so far I have not received a final bill from them. This suggests their organisation is pretty dreadful so I wouldn't count on getting credit back quickly! However, if you are with them, in credit and about to leave I recommend sending them a letter, (by email or recorded delivery so you have proof), clearly stating your leaving date, the fact you are in credit and that you expect the remaining balance to be refunded to you promptly, within 28 Days. If you do not receive your refund within the 28 Days them straight away submit a Formal Complaint, (make sure you make it clear it is a Formal Complaint and tell them that you understand you can escalate the matter to the Independent Energy Ombudsman after 8 Weeks if they do not respond or fail to refund your money). Point out in the complaint that you are unhappy about the delay refunding YOUR MONEY and the fact that it could have been earning you interest, (if you are genuinely in Financial Hardship and the amount owed is substantial - in comparison to your income - then mention this as a relevant effect of them withholding your money). If they do not then refund your money after 8 Weeks, immediately submit the complaint to the Independent Energy Ombudsman. The Ombudsman may take some time to investigate but they WILL get your money back eventually and are likely to award compensation too! - I had a similar case with another energy supplier and the Ombudsman ruled in my favour, that the energy company had acted poorly and awarded £60 compensation on top!
