“Perfect build”

★★★★★

written by GustavoWoltmann78 on 11/02/2024

I absolutely adore the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite for its lightweight design, making it a breeze to hold for extended reading sessions without experiencing any fatigue. The adjustable backlight feature is another highlight, allowing me to customize the brightness according to my surroundings, ensuring comfortable reading in any lighting condition. Moreover, the ability to read without disturbing my sleeping partner by using the device's built-in light is a game-changer. The wealth of free books available for download is remarkable, providing ample material to kickstart my reading journey. From the timeless works of Dickens to other classic fiction, I'm thoroughly enjoying exploring these literary treasures. The inclusion of a dictionary and quick access to Wikipedia add depth to my reading experience, enhancing comprehension and enriching my knowledge. Navigating the Kindle Paperwhite is a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly interface. I've found myself engrossed in reading for extended periods, a feat I rarely achieved with traditional books. Kudos to Amazon for delivering a product that truly elevates the reading experience. This is undeniably a significant advancement in the world of literature. Gus Woltmann

“First ever E-Reader and pleasantly surprised :-)”

★★★★★

written by dennisteaa on 22/01/2017

Hello and this is my first ever shot a buying a E-reader as we love bookings, but been doing a lot of travelling and wanted a way to still read, but not carry so many books around with us! I first tried the kindle app on my iphone 6 plus and on my nexus tablet, but found it hard to read at night and made my eyes sore. After reading a few reviews online, decided to give it a shot. Initially I thought before I purchased it that it is expensive when compared to a tablet with an app, but that is doing the Kindle an injustice. Within minutes of it arriving in the post just before xmas I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the screen and how it did not cause eye strain. It has been a real revelation, and make reading on an electronic device a pleasure again :-) The lowlight feature is great for reading in bed and not disturbing your partner, and the battery lasts for weeks. I have owned the kindle for approximately 30 days and now have 33 ebooks and enjoyed the whole experience of reading on the Kindle. Now reflecting on my purchase I would highly recommend it to anybody that travels alot and wants a way to still enjoying reading, but not having to carry around so many books. The battery lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks before I had to recharge it and been a very good value for money purchase.

“Better reading experiance”

★★★★★

written by Midnightminstrel on 07/09/2013

Ok, I was a bit slow taking up with this E reading business, I was a bit of a traditionalist if I am honest " I prefer the weight and feel of a book" I use to crow, even when my eyesight was getting worse and I was having to juggle that weight with a magnifying glass ( even though I ware glasses ) and I am getting to an age where I struggle with technology now. But now I am transformed from the Luddite I once was to being a strong supporter of Kindle. I can alter the size of letters, I can add more light, less light, change the font, I can read in Bed with out keeping my wife awake with the side lamp. Hey, I can store hundreds of books in one light hand held device so no more being buried alive by an avalanche of paperbacks when I open the bedroom cupboard door ( that was becoming a problem) and with literally thousands of books available for download at much cheaper prices than conventional books, I'm quids in. But do you know the best thing about a kindle? Well, it works! It actually works!

“The book, reinvented”

★★★★★

written by alisonst on 22/03/2013

Love it because it so lightweight you don't get tired holding it. And because the backlight can be dimmed/brightened so you can read in any lighting condition. Also it means you can read without a light on thus not disturbing your sleeping partner! There are loads of free books you can download to get started. I got all the Dickens and other classic fiction and I'm working my way through them all. Having a dictionary and Wikipedia just one click away is also brilliant and really enriches reading. I find because the Paperwhite is so easy to use I can read for much longer periods than with a book. Well done Amazon, this is a step forward for reading.

“Future of E-readers”

★★★★★

written by Frank_Matinez on 06/02/2013

I have the original Kindle. I read it a great deal until I got an iPad. The iPad just had more capability and could also be my E-reader. One of my chief complaints on the oringinal Kindle was that I had to use a book light to read in bed at night. Sure I understood the reasoning that if I was reading a "real" book I would need a light, but I could read my iPad without a light. Now this latest version of the Kindle called the "paperwhite" has a build in light that does a great job of illuminating the e-ink surface. The light comes from the bottom of the screen but you really have to look hard to see the difference. They have also made the whole thing much smaller by getting rid of the keypad and incorporating a touch sceen. Unfortunately they took out the audio capability, and the SD card slot (which enabled you to expand the memory of the device). Remarkably even with the touch screen and the light guide the overall sharpness of the e-ink display is still awesome. Since the e-ink technology actually uses small spheres that are half white and half black and then selectively rotating them to show what side that is desired, the contrast is very good. The display in the iPad (and laptops) is liquid crystal display (LCD) technology which shines a white light from behind and the filters out red/green/blue to get a desired color. This means that black is not really black but (mostly) blocked white light. Even with the brightness turned down I really can't read my iPad for extended periods of time. My eyes just get tired. The e-ink technology is just like reading print on paper, I can read it for a very long time. I did get the "special offer" Kindle that has small ads on the home screen and ads displayed when the system is powered down. I don't find this annoying but if it is something that bothers you then you might want to fork over the additional $20 and get the normal version. I have heard that you can pay the difference and get your kindle converted, but I haven't tried it yet. I just sent a file to my Kindle using the email address that was provided in my Amazon account. My Kindle received the file in just a few minutes and now it is in the Amazon cloud for use whenever I want to download it. I also "manually" loaded a PDF onto the Kindle while it was connected via USB to my computer. You just copy the file into the document directory. Overall I am very satisfied and I think my Kindle reading will grow.
