“Very poor work quality”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JackieA1956 on 18/06/2018

We had a conservatory built by Coral about 10 years ago and had nothing but trouble with the building and were given poor advice on heating and we have found out later extremely overpriced. A The day after it was "finished" we had one sheet of roof glass slip so far you could put your hand through the gap. We were told the builder used the wrong sized tape. B The first time it rained we had water coming through a wall window upright. We were told the installer had forgotten to seal the joint. C One of the roof panel joints leaked once or twice a year. Even though this was our living room we had to wait up to two weeks with a bucket on the floor. D The underfloor heating that was recommended as cheap/reasonable to run, electric, was atrocious. Our quarterly bills went from around £75 to over £900 for just 3 weeks. We were told "maybe your unit price has gone up". This was never used again and even after fitting a couple of radiators it is still cold in winter. E The guttering had to be re-positioned as the water would not flow down. F About 4 years later there was a loud bang and all electricity went off. The electric board came and said that Coral had nicked the mains cable when doing the foundations which after time the water had seeped in and blown it. We had to get a new supply cable fitted and all the freezer contents were destroyed. This took a few days to repair so we had a temporary cable through a window across the living room. When Coral came out they said it was not their fault but when the electricity board met them they said " okay we will go to court and we can prove it was you", Coral then admitted it. G The roof edge fittings were left with gaps, an inch or so, and incorrect shaped corners. A Coral director came out and said it looked fine to her what is the problem but admitted it should be done. H Due to continuous call outs for roof leaking and not being able to heat the room in winter, it was supposed to have been designed as our living room, that was in the spec, we ended up having the whole roof removed and replaced with a tiled one. We have plenty of photos and written evidence regarding these matters.

“Wont allow us to cancel”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ChristianSimpson358 on 30/07/2015

Myself and my partner ordered a conservatory through Coral windows on the 14/04/2015, the salesmen told us the surveyor would be round in 2 weeks and 2 weeks following this the work would start to be be completed in another 2 weeks so 6 weeks in total. The surveyor came on the 28/04/2015 (14 days has passed keep this in mind it comes up later)as promised and told us he would need to check whether there was a gas pipe running along the rear of our proerty and he would just need to contact the gas board. I had to chase coral windows to find the outcome. Eventually we heard back to find out that they could not find out and would have to do a test dig so a building manager would contact me. I heard nothing, finally after threatening to cancel the building manager called me within 2 minutes stating he was phoning me any way (yeah right). They then came out and carried out the test dig. Again I had to chase to find out the results to this, I was then told the pipe would need to be moved (thats all that was said) I used google to find out who to contact called them and was told to just fill in a online phone (I explained what we were doing) I was given a quote of £800. On top of this coral were going to put a base on top of concrete which would mean i would have to step up out of my kitchen which at 6ft 2 would mean banging my head. After all this I decided to cancel, However coral have told me a cannot as the contract I signed on the 14/04/2015 stated that I had a 14 day canellation policy and that it stated that it is the homeowners responsibility to move the gas pipe. Now I can understand this but on the 14/04/2015 i did not know the gas pipe needed moving. the surveyor came on the 14th day, so all these problems have appeared after the 14 days so how on earth can I make a decision when not only myself but coral did not know what would be reqired?! I am being threatened with having the conservatory built or paying cancellation costs. The guy I have been speaking with has told me I would have been made aware of the cancellation period verbally (i wasnt), the building manager told me to submit the conservatory plans to the gas board and they would look at these and send a proposal (this did not happen and this is not what the gas board do) I have no idea what to do as I have lost all faith in them and now feel they are holding me at ransom, AVOID!!!

“Terrible Service, they dont care once the job is finished!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bradshawzj52 on 27/04/2014

From day one I had problems with Coral, it took 4 visits to correct problems with my front door, I wrote and complained, yes they did write back but solved nothing. I have tried to contact them numerous times, emails, their own web-site and they just ignored me, they took the money and ran. If it was anything else it would be taken back to the shop, refund given and I would never return but you cant do that with doors and windows can you... If I was you, just stay away.

This is apparently been reviewed by John Valente the MD of Coral. After months of being ignored I contacted the Citizens Advice Bureau who advised me on the sales of goods act and as if by magic Coral got in touch. I am hoping they see it through to completion.

Just to let you all know. Coral have agreed to do nothing, the MD has said my leaky door is under guarantee so they will once again come out and try to repair, but as for their service towards me as a paying customer, they are doing nothing. To make matters worse, they have told me to contact them to sort a suitable date, they dont even have the decency to call me... again great customer service, NOT!!! - Stay away!

“Worst experience of my life”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/09/2013

I needed a new conservatory and a door over the summer time. I asked if someone to give me a quote and they said they would be out a week later. I waited in all day and even booked half day off work (im a school teacher) they never turned up. I called the salesman to see where he was and denied i had ever called up for a quote. After them making me feel like a liar i went elsewhere. Wouldnt reccomend them to anyone

“Can't even do the quote !”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Yogirich on 13/07/2013

Having made the initial appointment Coral appeared to be very professional over the phone and even confirmed the appointment the day before. We expected Mick 2pm and he telephoned around 2.5 hours early to see if he could. Come then as his other appointment had finished. As it wasn't convenient I said no and asked him to stick to his 2pm appointment. At 2.30 he didn't show, phone switched off and office couldn't contact him either. Either Coral don't need the business or they prefer not to work when the sun comes out. No second chances !

“Poor workmanship, customer service and satisfaction”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hski on 13/05/2013

Horrendous fitting of my windows and doors by this company. Gaps left, huge holes left in my masonary and rendering, rubbish strewn around my property, cracked double glazing unit fitted, no end covers on my window sills, sealant used to fill large areas, dirty windows, foul mouthed intimidating workmen, poor customer relations - took the director several weeks to reply to my complaint letter and then didn't feel it necessary to answer the 18 points I raised. What is more, the company removed my comments from their Facebook page - which were factual and to the point. All told a complete nightmare. I have never been so infuriated, angry or upset by a company. Although they offered to return to patch up their errors - I was still left unsatisfied and not happy. They offered no recompense for their mistakes and the taking up of my time to sort out their problems. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Having had me letter to the MD "intercepted" not replied to and passed on - the level of communication within Coral windows has taken a new turn for the worse - I suggest you look at your emails of 14 & 15 Jan 2013,and 8, 14 & 15 February 2013 - you have been cc'd in on emails from Coral's Head of Installations to me - you obviously dismissed them as not being worthy of your attention

Mr Waddington was cc'd in all emails at this time concerning this so this comment by him just shows how poor they are at customer contact & service
Since the last posting both my front door lock & the back door lock failed and Coral could not get an engineer to me to make sure my home was secure leaving me with access either through the French doors or the windows
Damp is still seeping into the plaster round one window & whilst some work has been done there is still a lot outstanding - now over 3 years since installation
The expense of fitting Double Glazing is considerable and you expect the job to be done well & to stand the test of time - when it is covered for 10 years but you are still trying to get the damage Coral did to my property put right after 3 years there is not much confidence in their abilities to do a good job or the duration of the warranty
For your own sakes choose another company

“POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LanieGreen on 21/02/2013

I've been having issues with my glazing from Coral since it was installed in May 2012. Repeated calls (and promises to call me back) NOTHING. They're quick to flog the product, not so speedy it seems to rectify poor quality which includes: mould, discolouring, poor sound exclusion and appalling sales techniques. I was particularly shocked at the "I'll sit in my car until you decide" policy - not allowing proper consideration and MIS-SELLING trickle vents which I do not need but were insisted were a 'legal requirement'. Save you hard earned cash, get nicer curtains!

“coral windows - poor ethics”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/11/2011

Agreed a price on the Tuesday with the branch manager of £13700 after a bit of negotiation and her having several trips to 'speak to the director', rep due to come on the Thursday to sign order/contract. Wednesday received a phone call from the above manager to say couldn't do the job for the AGREED price anymore, requoted at £19100!!!! Is this anyway to treat a customer or demonstrate good business practice? The whole experiance has left asour taste in my mouth.

Whilst we appreciate your comment, we posted this 18 months ago, so you are a little late in responding. We have had all of our doors and windows now replaced by a different company. We will not be returning to Coral.

Thanks Lucy2486. It would still be good for me to get the records out and find out why this happened so that I can make sure it does not happen again. The kind of ethics you refer to is not the kind that has kept us in business for the last 22 years, so I would like to follow this up internally to establish the facts. Perhaps you would e mail your name and postcode to [email protected]. Thanks

we used cwg choices - fantastic products and great communication, we needed a wide variety of windows and doors, sliding sash, fixed, standard top openers, fire escape windows, french doors and composite doors. Not a cheap job, but honest and upfront, actually cheaper than coral.
I had used coral 15 years ago and was impressed by the quality of the windows, but they had tried tp rip us off originally.
