“Mislead, Unhelpful, Poor after service”

★★☆☆☆

written by Alessandra1990 on 20/10/2014

Upon searching a car that I was extremely interested in purchasing, I made the drive up to Motorpoint Burnley on sunday 19th October 2014. Greeted well at the door by a sales agent who was a lovely and really helpful chap, all seemed to be fine and it was progressing relatively smoothly.

Then when we got to the nitty gritty, I was dissapointed with the valuation of my car for part exchange. My car is a 57 plate Seat Ibiza with 55k miles, roughly valued at 3100 by Auto-trader, Motorpoint said it would be 2100 and nothing further. I told them that this was quite far away from being agreeable, to which they increased to 2200 but nothing further could be done, bearing in mind I was looking at a 15,500 car. Not great but I appreciate car dealerships have margins and profits.

The next and most dissapointing issue was the false advertisement of the BMW I wanted to see. Clearly stated on their website that the car was in Burnley, however I was informed that this was actually situated at their Glasgow dealership so the car I had come to see wasnt actually on site. I would have to pay an additional £99 charge for this to be transported down too their Burnley dealership. After reluctantly agreeing to this, I was then told that to be eligible to apply for their finance I had to put down a fully refundable £300 depoist, which was negotiated to £300 pounds.

The deal was then passed on to a Business Manager, after a lengthy wait and a finance proposal which I didnt want to take they would apply to other companies.. Said this might be Wednesday before they have a response and then the only way it could progress is if I drove up and signed the forms for them to then get the car transported, company policy it has to be done on the premises.. Unfortunately I work long hours and couldnt quite drive up through the week to sign one sheet of paper, so this was a stumbling block and I was then told "ok we'll leave it then and i'll refund you back your deposit today".

This was yesterday at around 2:30pm, still not had the money back almost 24 hours later and the finance application is still open according to the initial sales agent. So from a buyer point of view, I have been mislead about the availability and location of the car, unhelped as I am £100 out of pocket until they pull their fingers out and refund me the money and the after service has been poor. I left a message with a receptionist and was told I would be called back yesterday before the close of business, I was called a day later to discuss other finance options so nothing has been passed on or communicated.

Really dissapointed, shame as the car would have been a good match for me but I guess you should always call and check first if its a company with more than one dealership!
