“WHEN IS A WINDSCREEN REPAIR NOT A WINDSCREEN REPAIR?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Richardpillow on 11/11/2017

When is was done on my van by Mobile/National Windscreens.

On recommendation by my insurers National Windscreens visited my house to replace the cracked windscreen on my VW transit van. On completion I queried the cut out part of the side of the seal, apparently the windscreen didn't quite fit so the engineers had to cut away part of the seal trim leaving a gap of about half an inch from the side and also in depth. That was supposed to be ok as the it wouldn't leak because the glue is below the seal.

Obviously I wasn't particularly happy with this so contacted the local depot manager and sent him photos of it. I had to chase him up two days later when he actually agreed that it wasn't right and we booked it in at the depot (my choice) for the following Wednesday but was assured again that it wouldn't leak.

The day before the second repair my windscreen started leaking from the top coming into my cab inbetween the steering wheel and radio. I called them to make them aware but continued with the Wednesday booking. Second job done fine but then I asked for my excess charge to be refunded as a gesture of good will and to compensate me for the extra time spent by me and inconvenience.

At first I was referred to head office in Bristol, but they had a defence mechanism in place and did not accept any blame and considered the second replacement job done and completed.

On sight of the leak video again the defence stood firm but then offered half the excess back.....so it still goes on.
