I was with Tesco car insurance for 2 years, first year claim free but had a non-fault claim and my car was booked in within 4 weeks to be repaired.
I have to say my car was repaired to a good standard and I was given a very good standard of courtesy car by the repairer for the 11 days it was in for repair and my car was returned in tip top condition inside and out.
I found communication with Tesco car insurance reasonably good after waiting in a call queue for an acceptable amount of time overall and all calls were handled in a courteous manner.
I was appointed a solicitor by my legal expenses provided with my car insurance and they reclaimed my excess from the third party insurer within 4 weeks of being appointed to act on my behalf.
I feel however Tesco could be a bit more proactive in communicating with the insurer of the at fault party in non-fault claims and that I had to push them to do this.
Nearly 6 months later the other insurer has not responded to Tesco and while I don't blame Tesco for this, it has taken them a month longer than they said it would to instruct a solicitor to pursue legal action against the third party insurer!
I received my renewal price at the start of January and it had gone up nearly £100 due to the outstanding claim so I changed insurer at renewal and saved £75 (will be £150 when losses have been recovered and ncd fully reinstated).
Overall Tesco car insurance would have received a higher rating had they always delivered what they promised without the need for me to follow things up.
Yes I recommend them but with a caution to be realistic, as with all insurers, you find out how good they really are when you have to make a claim!
