Cancellation fee trap - buyer beware!

Filled in all the details on a price comparison site. Went through all the documentation prior to checkout and everything looked good. At no point prior to checkout did they provide a draft policy document for checking. Took it through checkout, and lo and behold, details wrong on the policy. Fearing that would render the policy invalid, I rang them to correct, and was informed my monthly payments would jump from ~£40 to ~£70. Obviously that's not happening. So now I'm paying a cancellation fee for absolutely nothing. While they are here on this site replying to these reviews saying they're upfront on the cancellation fee - they are not so upfront during the checkout process on allowing you to check whether your details have came across from the price comparison site correctly, or whether those details have been applied to the insurance policy correctly, until they've took your money and you're then on the hook for that cancellation fee.

Great deal

I went through a comparison site and not all details were correct but it wasn't the end of the world to put the correct details in. I had been with my previous insurers for 11 year's but this year's quote was unaffordable, so I took to the comparison site and I'm pleased I did with a saving of just over £200.

Policy received incorrect. Details not uploaded from compare site correctly so a fault claim was not included. I contacted dial direct on line via ‘chat’ to explain this (in writing) new price given which I was happy with but checking policy details were not entered correctly. Did another on line chat and new price was doubled to over £600 which was ridiculous. I questioned it but told that was it!! Obviously I cancelled policy that had only been taken out 1 hour before and was told there would be a £25 admin fee charge. I also requested transcripts of this in line chat but did not receive them which would have proved my case. I am a pensioner and feel very upset and badly treated. This has been a total debacle!! What happened to 14 day cool off period?

Intuitive purchase process

Apart from being the cheapest policy from the comparison site, I was pleased that I could easily disable the auto renewal, they did not require evidence of my no claims discount, and I could adjust my details and see the revised cost before committing to buy.

Confusing level of breakdown cover

I was naturally attracted to this company by the price of their quote and the additional features that came with the policy. However, when it came to checking out I was left unsure about the level of RAC I am likely to receive in the event of a breakdown. The cover I feel that I have seems inferior to the cover that I thought I would be receiving from the initial quotation.

Not Very Happy

Ive been with Dial Direct for a few years & everything seemed smooth & value for money , but last year i was threatened with cancellation after they said my "Payment in full was cancelled by the bank , two weeks after i was told " It's all gone through" This year i phoned up to renew , was asked if any of my information had changed ? i said No , i was told that's fine everything has gone through & we'll take the money in two weeks time, i said Take it now & its done with to which i was told they can't

Two weeks later i get a threat of cancellation because my bank refused payment , turns out the card number had expired , so i gave them the new expiry date & it went through But with a £20 fine, i argued that i was told everything was fine & this could have been found out two weeks prior had they taken the payment at the time i asked them too , got a bit of a rude person on the other end & eventually i hung up ,Then i get an email telling me i need to get in touch asap as my insurance may be cancelled as my "Continuous Payment Authority has been cancelled by the Card Holder,first i don't need one as i pay in full & second im the Card Holder & i cancelled nothing , i had to phone them yet again to confirm i am actually insured

I like a simple life & unfortunately im not getting one here, ive received another email telling me the people who would supply me with a replacement vehicle will no longer be doing it & its now someone else "Who Cares ?" or even bothers to look who on the very rare chance who may or may not supply a vehicle ? Please Go Back to being a simple & smooth company to deal with, i really don't need the fines or all the stress , i just want insurance ,Just as a foot note i clicked on "Customer service below expecting a choice also value for money , Both lit up in Green "GOOD I'M HAPPY" i would like a choice to alter that but once you click you cannot remove it also you can now only raise your star rating not lower it Strange

I can only say from my experience that its been good, easy to deal with and a competitive price.

All their paperwork is online and you can access it and down load what you need.
