Car Insurance Excess Rip-Off
Hi,
We appreciate that the £30 arrangement fee can feel unreasonable when cancelling the policy in the first 14 days. We take care in making sure we are open and transparent with all our customers in order to help them make an informed decision before taking a policy out with us.
The arrangement fee charged on all our policies is £30. This is given within the terms and conditions of the contract before the policy is taken out.
There are a number of reasons why the fee becomes chargeable when your policy is cancelled. A few include:
- When the policy is paid as monthly installments, we need to set up the credit agreement to ensure that the direct debit instruction can be put in place. There is a charge given for this action.
- We have to send notice to the Underwriter to inform them that a new policy has been set up under your details so that in the event of a claim your details are already listed with the Underwriter.
- We send off a request to update the Motor Insurance Database to confirm that the vehicle is now insured with us. There is a charge given to us for doing this.
- We also need to ensure that the correct documents are provided to you immediately after the policy has been taken out so you have access to them and can read through the important information.
We as a company are charged more for the cancellation but we charge the set amount of £30 as this is what we have found through our own research is a reasonable amount to charge.

I was going to charged £30 to cancel within 20 minutes of taking out car insurance with Budget Insurance.
Half day for me. Completely unfair and unreasonable charge for the length of time the policy was active.
