We had a hire vehicle from these people and 3 WEEKS after the vehicle was returned got a £395 bill from Hertz (who had cross hired it through AMT. We were told it was for two 'torn' tyres. The pictures they sent of the damaged tyres were vague to say the least and did not warrant two new tyres. We were not able to be present for the vehicle drop off or pick up so they were free to fill in the inspection report as they wished. Hertz have not taken my protests that this is a rip off at all seriously and have chased aggressively for payment which they have now taken from our account without permission due to us having registered a debit card at the point of hire. While I was going backwards and forwards with emails to Hertz I did a google search for reviews of AMT Vehicle Hire and came accross this site. Unfortunately I now have to add my name to the list of victims of this totally disgusting company

“Terrible company ”

Had a hire car through our insurance company, wish we hadn’t Delivery guy pointed out minor scuffs etc, but NOT the 2 bald front tyres. We noticed while cleaning the car on the 2nd day of having it. Guess who is now responsible for the cost of 2 new front tyres! Cannot emphasise enough- please avoid this company- wish we had!!!

“If I could give no stars I would”

++++++++++++++++DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY++++++++++++++++++++++ Only used this company as arranged by a third party's insurance company who I told that because of my job would need the car delivered to where mine was being taken to be repaired by 9-00am Received a text message the day before delivery to advise that it would be with me between 8-00am and 10-00am which although not ideal I accepted. At 10-30 there was no sign of the hire car or a call to advise of delay so I called insurance co that arranged to be told that they had been advised that car would be 20 minutes. At 11-40 car had still not arrived and a further call to company that arranged hire. Vehicle finally turned up at 12-00 meaning I had to rearrange customer appointments of which one decided they were now going elsewhere as they had waited all morning for me.

“£178 for a £35 headlight??!”

Absolutely shocking service - this was arranged through our insurance (car accident that wasn't our fault) and a defender turned up instead of the promised Discovery. We explained this to the driver who then promptly drove off leaving us with no vehicle for 4 days. We only put 130 miles on in one week and have now received a bill for £178.80 for head light that we know would cost less than £35.00 The headlight had a 5mm crack on it that could have easily been there before, we obviously have no way of proving this and they have been decidedly unhelpful throughout the whole process. There was no mention of excess at any point as it was all arranged via the other partys insurance company

“Do NOT use this company ”

Do NOT use this company amtvehiclerental They delivered a car with no communication and was the incorrect vehicle. I was advised they would swap it but after making loads of calls and hearing nothing back, left the vehicle parked up. Frustrated we requested they collected the car in which they arrived unannounced, no calls or emails, terrible. They stated that half a tank of fuel was used and we would be charged for this usage. I pointed out that the car had not moved and was still on the same mileage as when delivered. They did not believe it until I found my original paperwork with the exact mileage written on. Armed with this information they asked if I had left the engine running whilst it was parked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely amateur behaviour and be aware of the fuel thing

“AVOID! Damaged Vehicle Tyre Wall falsely claiming I...”

Warning! Do not use AMT VEHICLE RENTALS they are charging me over £300 for a damaged tyre wall which I dispute. Through dishonest and arguably fraudulent behaviour they seem to have done same to others reading Facebook posts, coincidence I think not. Having been referred to them by a third party insurance supplier for repair to my wife's car I accepted the Ts & Cs which as told means ''we can charge what we like as per what you've signed and you don't need to be present' having paid £100 deposit they are now trying to charge a further £300 for damage to tyre wall which I adamantly dispute. For the record tyre openly on sale at £198? The car a RR Evoque less than 2 years old with a number of small dents and scratches and all 4 wheels badly kerbed and highlighted at collection as well as a missing part of door handle. I should have been more suspicious at outset perhaps? I strongly recommend alternative reputable suppliers that have a more credible track record than AMT. I was naively led by third party insurance company probably taking the cheapest option, don't be fooled AVOID AMT!

I fully agree with your comments, I had the unfortunate incident of an alloy being slightly damaged by roadworks, when I called to ask if I could have it repaired independently or confirm the cost they would charge they launched into a tirade of how it would not just be the alloy rim that would be damaged, but of course the tyre, the tyre wall and the car would have to be full checked over. This was the introduction of how they intended to charge upon the return of the vehicle. I had the tyre , wheel and car checked by an independent garage and have this report for them, they will of course dispute it.

Seems like AMT specialise in poor customer service and unhelpful staff along with their fleet of cars. I booked a BMW i8 6 weeks in advance for a wedding and told it was guaranteed by the Leeds branch. Over the weeks i was told to give certain information including my credit card details in advance which seemed very strange. Despite keeping in regular contact with the AMT team via email and phone, i turned up on the day of the collection to be told that they did not rent out the i8 to my postcode. They left it to the last minute to make me aware of this which led to me being left with no car a day before the wedding and unable to find anything else. The woman i dealt with was rude and kept saying she left a 'voicemail' which clearly was not the case. I received no email regarding the cancellation of my booking either. I would have thought AMT could have mentioned not being able to provide the car to me when i first made the booking or over the 6 weeks of communication. At the very least the website should have a disclaimer advising customers that bookings are dependant on postcode and are in fact not 'guaranteed.' The worst experience i've had with any rental car company and i would advise people not to trust any 'guaranteed' claims on their website.

“Tell me they have no car, hours before I need it.”

After confirming they had a closed back pick up truck the week before, they rang me the morning of my hire to say they don't have one in available. They were polite enough on the phone while they ruined the beginning of my holiday. The drivers who dropped off and picked up the cars were very friendly and polite but not at all informed about the situation. When the car finally arrived 24 hours late, the driver apologised for arriving a little late because he had to help a new staff member on the way. Completely unaware to the rush I was in (Which did not seem to be his fault at all). Apparently they were in a rush to get my car back because someone else was waiting on the car. Seems it may have been the same situation as me.

“Very frustrating experience”

I had booked a vehicle with a tow bar, due to office hours I had arranged to collect the vehicle at Heathrow. They refused to rent me the vehicle as I was not actually catching a flight. The agent on the phone was of no help and repeated herself over and over, "if you have no flight number your booking is void". Do they not think I could just put in a fake flight number? What difference does it make?? I will never (attempt to) hire a vehicle from them again, terrible customer service that has left me in the lurch for my trip this weekend.

“Would never use again”

Everything was awful. The car was nice but I got a car from Enterprise a week later that was just as nice and cheaper with more depots then AMT. The problems I experienced included rude staff who were more interested in socialising together Small number of branches and the other branches are not helpful Long wait for deposits. my advice is to use a bigger firm - these guys run a small joke of a business and think that a few prestigious cars makes them the best! Avoid.

“Worst car hire uk”

I rented 2 cars from amt kept them on kong term for about 6 months paying £1560 a month when return ing one car i was charged £285 for very very slim line on 2 wheels that even driver collecting the car said it shoul not be chargeable specially having long term hire Beaware on deposit they can take whatever they like and you will not be able to get your money back I have renting cars for 15 years with all international brands like hertz avis europcar and few locals never got this kind of charges DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY I have learnt my lesson i write for travel magzines and this wl be coming up in near future in most uk travel magzines

On the basis you are unable to spell I assume the travel magazines aren't very good . Let me ask you a question If I rented a house you owned for a year and damaged it would you expect me to pay for it off course you would . No one will ever be happy when money is taken from them . However you clearly state you damaged the wheels and that will no doubt reduce the resale value of that vehicle so it need to be taken back . I have been charged for damage in the past but I didn't throw my toys out of my pram I acted like a big boy and paid it .

Although booked car was not available upgraded car was in my opinion inferior saying that it still did the job. We were greeted promptly from the airport car park and the car performned perfectly over the 3 week booking. Drop off was carried out promptly and professionaly so I can’t really fault this rental. Saying that II would prefer to have a full tank of gas at pick up and paying Heathrow parking at pick up and drop off was not communicated.

“Absolutely atrocious”

I travelled two hours to AMT Vehicle Rental's Enfield branch to pick up a tow car to be met with the worst in customer service I've ever experienced. No welcome or smile as I entered the reception, just a gormless and unwelcoming gawp from the two members of staff, I had to break the ice by introducing myself, and was responded to with a plain and straight faced "please sit down". After a few seconds of faffing around I was finally asked for my driving licence and proof of address. I asked on the phone when I booked as to whether one proof of address was acceptable and I was told it was. However now it appeared that I in fact needed two. I asked if they would mind if I used their computer to print out a Vodafone bill from my online account, as I use paperless billing, only for the so called manager to exclaim NO as he spun round on his chair to faff with something behind him. I explained that I'd been told only one proof of address was needed when I booked, so he rang head office to check, and then proceeded to call me a liar when they denied it! Keeping my cool, I said how about I come back in the morning with a second proof of address, would that be okay. He said "yes, and a passport". So now that's three proofs of address is it?! At which point I was asked to leave, unbelievable! I asked if based on their behaviour from the moment I opened the door, whether they treated all their customers like that, to which the response was simply NO. I asked why I was treated like that then. No answer. A total pair of dim and inflexible individuals with no respect for their customers, calling me a liar, treating me like a criminal, and asking me to leave when I'm trying to work out a mutually acceptable way to spend money with them. Some training in the ways of modern business practice and interpersonal skills really wouldn't go amiss with this company, an absolute disgrace, don't be fooled by their professional looking website, this company really does portray the term 'polished t u r d' perfectly.

“Best in Scotland!”

This is the best car rental company that you can ever get for your money. They are so efficient. The agent was waiting at the airport when I arrived as I was a little delayed though at the airport. They upgraded us to an AUDI A4 as they couldn't give us the car we booked for.How fantastic is that?? All the other car rental companies are only offering small cars like Fiesta or Vauxhall for the price that I paid for. Some even offer to match the price given to them but nothing beats AMT! The car was new, in superbly clean condition and didn't cause a single trouble through out the 10 days I drove her. I would stick to the same company again on my next trip definitely!!

“Really good service”

I got a Jaguar XF from this company in their Bristol location for my friends wedding. The price I paid was not the cheapest I saw advertised but this was the only company I called that actually had their own executive cars, every other company I called either didn't have anything available or offered to call me back but never did. Service was great, I booked on line and they delivered the car to our house (small fee, they said a week or more was free) then let me take it 1 way and drop it off in London on route to dropping the Wedding couple at the airport for their honeymoon. Overall the service was fantastic and I will use again, maybe when I travel to Edinburgh for the new year I might do another 1 way deal to their Scotland location and then 1 for the return journey. P.s. They charged me for the 1 way but it was cheaper than the train had I not been going to the airport for my mate.

“Not Just Your Average Rental Company”

I have hired a number of vans from AMT for various reasons and always got great service from the leeds branch. then i needed a car for a wedding i was going to and didnt want to hire a bog standard 'cheap car' i wanted something with a bit of prestige to it. Some of the cars they have on fleet are brilliant, i ended up hiring a VW Scirocco, for the same price as you would pay for a focus or an astra. i kow which one id rather have. Keep it up guys
