I was unlucky enough to hire a Vauxhall Corsa car from Oscars in Kyrenia in 2009. On returning to N Cyprus this year, I was told that I had to attend the police station in Lefkosia as there was a speeding fine outstanding for a VW Golf from Oscars car Rental in 2009. It transpires that the paperwork for the hire car was completed for the Golf and then the car was changed to a Corsa, although the paperwork stated the car was a Corsa, Oscars had failed to cross through the registration number for the Golf. They either subsequentally hired the car to someone else or used it themselves and were caught on a speed camera. The police pictoral evidence was inconclusive - it was a rear view shot of the car and there appeared to be 3 people in the car, the police said that as my signature was on the paperwork Oscars sent them, I was liable and I either had to pay the 178 Lire fine, take it to court (whih would take at least 30 days) or I would be stuck in N Cyprus, as I would be stopped from leaving the country until the fine was paid.
