This company is the most despicable bunch of offenders that I have ever come across. Their business model is set a low price to get the customers in then find any way to trick them that they can find. We hired a car from them at Manchester in June for four days. We had taken out full insurance with the company who brokered the sale. On arrival we were told that this insurance was junk. If we didn’t take their insurance and cancel what we had then we would be charged the whole of the excess irrespective of the actual damage. They also required us to leave a charge on our credit card of 2500pound as a deposit against any damage. The car we were hired was a well-used car that had a lot of damage marks on it. We brought this to their attention and took video but they just shrugged it off as ‘we know about that.’ We returned the car as agreed and nothing was said about any problem. After about three weeks the 2500pound charge on our card was lifted. The end of the matter we thought. Five weeks after that we received and email which was an email for a total of 600 pounds which was supposedly for damage to the car as well as for two items we had paid for at the time of hiring. There was no information about what the so-called damage was or who repaired it or invoices or receipts from the repairer. I wrote to them telling them that this wasn’t on, after 8 weeks with no contact they expected me to believe they had only just discovered the damage. The response was to access my credit card and debit 500Pounds. I have just had the money returned to me by my bank after I made a charge back against these people and set out how the trick worked. Unfortunately, I didn’t look at the reviews for these sham srtists or looked for media coverage of the dodgy charlatans. Do your self a favour and avoid these people like the plaque.

“Avoid at all costs”

This was booked through Airline, I will never book this way again. If you do when you inspect vehicle I recommend taking a video of the entire car. I know for a fact that no damage was incurred by myself during hire of the vehicle, however on return the person who inspected the car went straight to a small black mark on the bumper (without checking the rest of the vehicle) and told me I had incurred the damage, there wasn't even a pretense of making a proper check. This mark, which you could have polished out with a rag, was charged at £351. I honestly feel this was like a sting operation, please make a very detailed inspection of the vehicle if you are in the unfortunate position of having to use this company. I obviously didn't record the state of the car in enough detail, my mind on other things as I had hired the car to travel to my mothers funeral.

We booked flights including car rental from the USA to Manchester England, returning after my mother's funeral. The flight we had booked was delayed and we were re-routed to Paris, then from Paris to Manchester England. Instead of arriving at 8am we arrived 6pm the same day, we then waited 40 minutes for a bus to take us from the airport to the Green Motion parking lot. We talked with Ritz from Green Motion, who informed us the rental car had gone. However, he did have one car left and the cost was $1115:82 and a further charge of $33:47. The car had half a tank of fuel, but he would throw that in at no charge so just bring the car back empty. I asked about the deposit we had already paid, that's gone mate you will need to take that up with your booking agent. my wife asked if they did bereavement rates, he then got very aggressive and said that he was insulted we should ask such a thing. This is the only car I have left do you want it or not! take it or leave it. We had no choice but to pay and take the car, on doing paperwork he said there was also a $50:00 deposit but you will get that back when you return the car. On dropping back off the car to the same employee Ritz who checked over the car and then parked it up, I asked him about the deposit. He said it's only $50:00 quid mate, I asked if there was any problem with the car, he said no, and you will get your deposit money back in 7 to 10 business days. Very disappointed, it's been over 7 to 10 business days recived nothing.

“Hired car through manage booking option of airline I...”

Hired car through manage booking option of airline I was flying with. Hire car location not ideally situated as not in hire car village with other car hire providers thereby reducing options in event of any disagreements. At desk when collecting car I was specifically told that my booking had no insurance included despite the documentation with voucher suggesting otherwise and that I needed to take out full insurance of £50 per day. I was then given a long winded explanation of why the relationship I had in this instance was different from what l might previously have had with other airlines / car hire providers. To appease me I was given car with Satnav (that I didn’t need) and had the mileage excess waived (that was unlikely to be used) for my 2 day hire. When taken to car I was told that there was no need to check car over as I had full insurance. On returning I complained to airline and directly to Green Motion. Green Motion replied to the airline that I quote “Due to the customer arriving without a valid credit card, they did meet the terms and conditions, the rental station had the right to refuse the release of the vehicle, with no refund. However the rental station has offered the customer an excess waiver that will reduce or remove the excess on the rental, which allows them to continue with the reservation.” (I presume they meant DID NOT MEET THE T&C’s above). I responded saying that I had 3 credit cards on me and was then asked to provide proof that I had sufficient credit on the cards at time of transaction which I did. I was then advised that the issue was that I used an Amex which wasn’t acceptable to cover excess despite the fact that the original booking was made with same card. That was a fob off as I only produced card at final stage when the required documentation for the full insurance had been signed. In addition I was paying for full insurance and the question of paying for the excess was not in question. As it happened I have an annual policy to cover the excess anyway and wouldn’t have needed to pay anything other than having amount blocked on card in case of accident. (cover process) However the fact I was forced to take out full insurance meant it was a non issue. The final straw was when Green Motion responded to the direct complaint to them saying that what I had paid for was the excess insurance on the CDW. This was also a complete lie as two people when I had picked up the car had clearly told me I had full insurance and this was backed up by their actions. Also I would question the level of insurance of £50 per day charged to cover CDW excess which is certainly excessive, especially considering that a quote I received from one of their more well known competitors was £42 per day for full insurance and half that level for CDW excess. The biggest mistake I made in this saga was not checking any review sites before booking. I have never ever seen such a even split between 1 and 5 ratings that gives me the impression that there is a ‘strategy’ when opportunistic approaches are adopted (in my case short duration and not based on uk mainland). Needless to say I or anyone I know is likely to use Green Motion at any time in future.

There hire rates are very cheap for a reason, they will claim you have damaged the car and take it from your deposit. Please do not take the chance, im going to take them to court.

I cannot stress how much this company need to be avoided.  You will be charged for damage you did not cause. The damage will be in an obscure place, obviously you won't see it when you pick the car up. To put it into perspective, I've had $2300 taken from my credit card for damage I didn't cause. If you have already booked one through them and it's too late to back out. Go over the car with a fine tooth comb. Mark down the slightest of scuffs, scrapes or chips anywhere on the vehicle. Make sure you highlight it to them and take pictures of everything, no matter how small the damage.

Car is picked up wet and scratches do not show. we valeted the car the next morning and photographed all scratches with time and date stamps. called green motion and informed them happy to return to depot so that they could verify pre existing damage they declined stating not to worry as we had photo's. on return staff went directly to the minor pre-existing scratch - stating we had caused damage and denied any knowledge of our phone calls. Few weeks later they charged us $1300. after many emails and threats to go to ombudsman they returned most of our money. car was cool company are sharks. avoid.

This was 1st time I had used a UK Car Rental. From collecting the car, Mon 24th Feb, to returning it today very early AM (3.3O ish) - the Shuttle Bus was waiting to run us to Term 3. Couldnot fault the car or the service on Reception, and I would use this Company again

Green Motion - Manchester Airport. As per many other reviews, my experience here was a negative one. The car I received had not been prepared before handover - the representative even told me this at the time, stating ‘the car has only just come back in so I’ll just need to have a look at it’. This consisted of opening the drivers door, looking inside and then saying ‘yep, spotless’. This is not the required checks a car should go through before being allowed out on hire. It turned out the car had a slow puncture, no washer fluid, was far from spotless, the wipers needed changing, the windows had not been cleaned for a long time. As it was dark and raining when I collected the car, none of this was clear until I started driving the car - which meant that I was on the motorway in a precarious position of really poor visibility through the windows. I contacted the company about the slow puncture and was informed that as I had damaged the wheel there would be a charge of £400 if I returned the car with the issue present! So, had to go and get it sorted myself at my own expense - fortunately I had top-up insurance elsewhere. The repair cost £27. Green Motion want to charge £400. The company also tried to charge me £91 to add an additional driver - which should have been free. Their customer service, once you have signed their agreement is very poor. As per the other reviews, this business is purely out to make as much money as they can from customers and by any means necessary. I witnessed this first hand when returning the car to watch as they intimidated two different customers as they returned their hire cars. The representatives were looking over their cars and pointing out the absolute smallest of marks and charging them ridiculous money. One gentleman was in the verge of tears as he had only had the car for 2hrs to go to a meeting. They bullied him and acted in a confrontational and intimidating way until he gave in. Totally unacceptable. Luckily I’d cleaned and checked over my car, so they didn’t have the opportunity to charge me for anything - which genuinely seemed to annoy the representative who was responsible for checking my car over. He then just moved onto an elderly couples car and picked holes in that one instead. Having hired many cars over the last 20 years from many different hire companies, I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like it. Green Motion Manchester Airport should not be in operation - their intimidating tactics to squeeze as much money out of people in vulnerable positions is unacceptable. Yes, they may be cheaper than anywhere else but there is a reason for this - they just try to get more money out of you afterwards. Avoid!!

Nightmare on arrival. Nightmare on departure. This rental company is the worst. They will do anything to get more money from you. More insurance on top of insurance you already have. Check every corner including the alloys. Beware of low prices always. Such an unprofessional 3rd star place. We got charged for a scratched rim on alloys for a car we picked up in the mud and dark. We checked everywhere and it was covered in scratches but forgot the wheels. Never never never use them.

“Be prepared to defend yourself”

I've rented cars and have never experienced this before. My car rental was PREPAID, my flight was late so they let the car for me"go". I had rented a BMW and they said they only had a mercedes left and it was an upgrade. I was not able to get a refund for my original booking for $231.77 ( Canadian) so I was really forced to take the upgrade at a cost of$346.76 (Canadian) Anyone else see a big problem with this? The car I was given, I will say was very nice, brand new if fact, the man even said it had zero miles ( I wasn't born yesterday, even new cars have something) with a limited milage in the contract, this point is important, it had 167 mies on it, I was limited so this would of worked out to approximately two days worth of driving. Take photos of the odometer. I was given the car empty...$124.65 to fill it and I was expected to return it with what I took it with. So I'm supposed to drive 1 1/2 hours to the airport at the risk of running out of gas to get it back empty? I gave them half a tank when I returned it, I estimate at least a $60.00 value. We took photos of the vehicle inside and out before and after to prove the condition and was never so relieved to return a rental before. I don't like leaving bad reviews, I would much rather acknowledge a great place and service so I will say there was no problem with my Canadian licence/insurance *I did have to leave a $1800 deposit on my credit card though and the car was really nice. Shuttle service was excellent.

-NEVER RENT CARS FROM THIS COMPANY- Never EVER choose green motion.I hope from my terrible experience, I can warn others. They trap you and make you think you have damaged the car when you haven't and take your hard-earnt money. I lost over a £1000 over a rental car because they accused me of damaging a car I hadn't damaged. When I went to collect the car on the first day, the person there rushed me and they were supposed to take account of the previous damage to the car and because it was raining, they said they couldn't and forced me to sign the papers quickly. I know why now. Well, I had forgotten what horrible people there were in this world and it came back to bite me when I was the one that had to pay for those previous damages that hadn't been taken account of. I was shocked and furious when it happened, and I will continue to write this on every website to hopefully spread the word of these people. They had planned it all. Never again will I rent their cars. You deserve zero stars for blaming innocent people.

It is my very first time experience hiring a car like this, the very first dealing was very appealing, polite but later realized they are too expensive, do not want to reimburse the deposit. absolute disgrace, no customer care, you need to record every conversation you have with them.

Over the last year I have rented cars from several hire companies including Avis, Hertz, Enterprise and Europecar all without issue. However my experience of Green Motion at Manchester Airport has left me incredulous that so many sharp practices are operated by one company and they still remain in business. On the plus side the car was relatively new with low mileage and their offices were immaculate. However... The wait to be served was about 35 minutes as only one person serving while another 3 stood about. Each hire seemed to have the assistant type what seemed like a novel into their computer. Deposit held for one month exactly. Aggressive sales/no flexibility on in house insurance product despite me having an annual excess policy in place. A phantom charge of £84 for a £2 crossing of the Mersey bridge despite producing a receipt to prove the crossing had been paid. So what was a £15 hire for 3 hours turned into £125. An absolutely gang of charlatans. Next time I’ll use a reputable car hire firm as in my experience Green Motion Manchester Airport should not be allowed to operate. You have been warned.

The worst car hire company you could imagine. Probably don't need to write anything because you know what I'm going to say. Yes' your right. I was also charged for damage I didn't do. I did inform them of this but they chose not to record it. Probably because their staff are paid a commission on all damage charges. Yes this is true and I was told by the Manchester branch manager. This company needs to be stopped. How many terrible reviews and how much money does this company need to take from people before something is done?

We took a car which was fine, a defect was pointed out and we signed, when we returned they said we had caused the damage and took £1200.00 for a small scratch, they ruined our holiday, beware under the green veneer lurks a monster.

“Green Motion under Fraud Investigation”

The car will be cheap as chips the deal will sound brilliant but soon as they have your credit card details thats when the customers know they have been robbed. Green motion is under investigation. Two brothers from Bolton named Sajid and Yasin have a team of guys who damage the rental car after the customer drives off so they can keep the deposit that is how they make the money back. Please be aware of them i am speaking from experience as an inside man and i have it all recorded on my phone

I hired a car in March and pointed out a small scuff mark at the front. The guy showing me around he car was at the side of the car and shouted over to me that he had that recorded but he hadn't. I was charged for it when I returned the car. The guy went straight to it as he obviously was aware of the damage. I did not sign the report form on the return as I was disputing the damage. They still proceeded to take my money. I was also told by the manager that their staff get commission on damage charges. I live in Australia but am prepared to return to Manchester to front up in court and give evidence if need be. Please get in touch if I ca be of help. This company needs to be stopped.

Do not use this company. • Charged additional insurance costs on pick up even though web rate did not advise of this at the time of booking • Staff members constantly taking phone calls whilst dealing with face to face customers, no apology or manners • Charged GBP400.00 immediately as a deposit for the insurance excess • Fuel is return like for like – this is impossible to judge • Booked a compact car, the website suggested Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai i30 or similar. Was given a Honda Jazz – this is much smaller. • Asked to change the car as was not what had booked but was told the car is in the same category as the others so the only option was to pay more to upgrade – was offered a ‘discounted’ rate due to the fact I raised the point • On pick up of the replacement vehicle was advised there was 1/3 tank of fuel, when checked the orange empty light was on and the only local fuel station is at the airport so fuel costs are much higher • On returning the vehicle I was charged the full GBP400 for a few tiny knicks at the bottom of the front bumper that had been caused by sand and grit on the roads due to the bad snow fall and icing. The staff member was rude and said this was my fault and even though it was unlikely they would fix the car I still had to pay i.e. GBP400 profit for Green Motion.

Green Motion Manchester - Terrible from beginning to end, and took over 350 GB pounds. Do not use at any cost !!! This should be zero stars. A real litany of terrible service, flippant staff who don’t know the meaning of customer service, and blatant dishonesty. They should be prosecuted. On arrival to the office after 24 hour flight, we had to wait 2 hours, then pay for an upgrade as they didn’t have the automatic in the cheaper class we booked, but just the prestige model. They kept saying a car would be coming in a few minutes, but it never did. Eventually they insisted we pay extra to upgrade, after 2 hours of waiting before they would release an automatic car. The man went around the car pointing out the dents and scratches, including a large scratch in the back bumper. He said he had noted it on the diagram but stupidly after 24 hours flying and 2 hours waiting in the office we didn’t check the diagram in our hurry to get out of the office. They wrote down the wrong postcode for the satnav to return the car, taking us to their old office which no longer exists. On returning the car, a big bouncer type employee who would have been an asset to the Russian mafia told us the scratch was new and that we would have to pay 355 pounds to have it fixed. He also said, or grunted, that there were 2 other new scratches but the man at the desk admitted those were there before, We had to wait at the counter 45 minutes to be served, and then longer for the shuttle meaning we were running late for the flight home and had no time to argue. They knew and we knew they were ripping us off and there was nothing we could do about it. He was serving me for 45 minutes and couldn't even look me in the eye. My young daughter waited in the office with me over that time and when we left she said she was shocked by the “mean” way the other employees treated other customers they dealt with over that time. I had excess insurance so will not be paying for the damage myself, so have no reason to make this up. Avoid, avoid, avoid. The worst car rental company I have ever dealt with.
