“Thanks for the reviews”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Funding on 08/10/2013

Thank you all for the reviews. After speaking to a women that is on linked in , I was a bit miffed, she spoke very fast, asked me if I understood a few times, then dropped a sum of £189 to access the web site to apply for a loan/grant, this was a brief explanation, and carried on asking for my address and email which she already had! She then came back to this random amount she she assured me I would get the tax back on it. When I said I didn't have the money for it right now she told me that they recommended people to pay by credit card. This ammediatly made me think this isn't right! I believe they recommend this as I would be able to claim back the money so they're not just trying to take money from me it's also credit card companies. She then told me after I still said no that I should hurry up and get the money from friends or family as we are half way through the financial year and funding runs low come April! Which again made me think this is not right! As I am sure that if funding runs out this year there is always a budget for the next financial year. So I thank you all for making these reviews as I then googled the company reviews and came to this point! Don't be fooled into rushing and access a more reliable site like the goverment, which takes you through the same process.

I had a very unsatisfactory experience with the Canadian office of this company and found a charge on my credit card from the UK office which was not authorized. I have now cancelled my credit card so they can not pass my details to anyone else.

“Do not use!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by haakon on 10/05/2013

My advice do not use. These people took us for £231 and was trying to take more money from our card. Altogether they want £448.80 plus charge you £1 a month for accessing the website. I have contacted the fraud department where they were more helpful than my bank. Do not fall for their sales pitch and give them no money you can access the same data online for free from the government. Funnily enough when I asked for our money back they stopped answering the phones, or replying to emails. I wish I had known before what kind of company this was, I would never had used them.

I've had the unpleasant experience of dealing and being duped by this company. So far I've lost £264. Word of advice if you've also been a victim cancel your credit card or tell bank to block future payments. Can also contact retail disputes from your credit card / bank and try to recover your money. I also called Fraud Police who were very helpful. Lets hope these vile people are stopped. I've learnt the hard way I hope no one else does.

I also had a problem with UKBFC, they told me there was several loans and grants I could apply for in my area and for my business sector, they took my £264 and the information they provided was useless. The only one it said I was eligible to apply for got rejected, the email said we only provide small loans for people on low incomes to buy home goods, washings machines, sofa's fridges etc. we do not provide business loans. Seems like they just list everything out of yell under grants and loans.
AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I've just [07/02/2013] got off the phone with the fast talking woman who called me back within almost 5mins of me having submitted the online information request form. Really fast turnaround, right! If the unusually prompt turn around wasn't impressive enough, I was recited a long sales pitch about this great grant database that I could access and have a guaranteed response within just 18 days. Then all of a sudden I was being told about paying £200 now and a further £100+ 30 days later. I asked, sorry I wasn’t aware there was a fee. She then said, its tax deductable and once you get a grant we give you the money back. I thought to myself, well why take the fee in the first place? I said I needed to have a think, she didn't like that and promptly ended the call saying that I should give her a call when I was ready proceed. It dawned on my shortly after the call that the first thing she asked was, did I have at least £500 in my bank account to contribute towards my business start up. She just wanted to see if when she asked me to pay the membership fee I could afford it. That's when I decided to look up some reviews, if the service was as great as she'd said, I figured there would be loads of reviews and at least a listing on the Government's business advice website where they link to grant and business loan providers. UK Business Funding Centre is a scam, that much is clear and I add to the many warning messages here alerting people to be careful if they come across these fast talking bandits. They didn't get hold of my money, don't let them get hold of yours.

“Don't bother with their "partnership" scam e-mail...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by darrenforster99 on 23/01/2013

I got an e-mail through to my business account stating that they were a government agency and they were looking for an IT business to recommend customers to. All I'd have to do is sign up to become a partner and they would supply me customers free of charge... sounds great, it's a .org.uk website so it seems it's registered to some kind of organisation rather than a company (although the end of a website doesn't alway ring true though as anyone can buy .org.uk names). When I looked into becoming a partner with them it said all over their website that it was a unique opportunity to gain new customers for free with a government backed scheme. On the final page before you apply it then states that they actually charge £195 a month for you to become a partner. This charge is mixed in with the text and isn't very clear (so if I fill in this form they will charge me £195 A MONTH!! - in just 3 months I could have a years premium advertising in Yell or The Post Office for less than that!). It seems very misleading at the beginning to state that being a partner will bring you "free leads" and then to say btw we charge you £195 for being a partner - They want to charge businesses £195 a month so THEY have services to offer to THEIR clients, no thanks I'd rather rely on FreeIndex for leads than those cowboys. I highly suspect that anyone actually joining them as a client most probably will find they have very few or no businesses at all as partners at that price so you'll be wasting your money, all they're after doing is making a quick buck. You can get a lot better business information for free from direct.gov.uk and the job centre.

Ukbfc's Response to darrenforster99's Review

Written on: 28/02/2013

The company you are referring to is not the UK Business Funding Centre. The UKBFC does not provide or solicit any services to "partners," nor do we provide any services that aid clients with running their business, including gaining or dealing with customer leads. What's more, we have no services currently priced at £195, even after accounting for VAT. This can be verified by looking at the prices provided in our website's easily located FAQ section.

Although it is possible some government schemes may help you fund marketing methods that could increase your leads, the UKBFC is not affiliated with any such government programme so we would not push it upon potential client, nor would we be able to provide any form of pricing such a scheme would require.

You are either mistaken in your assertion that it is the UKBFC that contacted you in, or the Centre is being misrepresented in your review. The ONLY services the UKBFC provides is access to our independent research resources that are provided to aid our clients with locating government-provided funding schemes they may be qualified to apply for. These services are accessible by a single payment process (that we can breakdown into two payments if that is more convenient), and are not charged to clients monthly, as you claim.

“The UK Gov Business Funding Centre - A COMPLETE SCAM!!!!”

written by on 11/01/2013

I have also been a victim of this crime!!! To cut a long story short I parted with my card details to receive this loan data-base, however within just a few minutes of accessing this data-base it was obvious my business would not be applicable for any loans or grants listed (due to the nature of my business and the locality). When I told the woman I wanted to think about it she said "what do you need to think about" and that if I purchase the data-base now I could start accessing loans straight away, which of course was not the case!!! I tried to get a refund but to no avail, all I encountered was abruptness and rudeness and had the phone put down on me twice. I have just reported the scam to the Fraud Action and myself am close to tears and feeling quite helpless and numb.

It is unfortunate you feel you did not qualify for government funding. Obviously, not everyone will qualify but, considering our information resources have details on hundreds of government funding schemes, I suggest that perhaps your search is not as thorough as you claim here if you sorted through all that information in "just a few minutes." If you accessed the database, whether you chose to review it all or not, you agreed to the terms and conditions upon doing so -- you cannot proceed without checking off the box indicating you have read and agree to the terms. These terms indicate that because the product is electronic in nature, you cannot be provided with a refund once you log in and begin using the services. We are constantly seeking ways to improve how the product functions, and improve ease of usability. If you still have access, it is also possible new programmes have since been added that you may qualify for, considering a client membership is for a full year.

We do indeed allow clients to pay in two instalments, one of which is a month later. We are entirely up front about this. If you feel that is too much for the service provided, fair enough, but I'm confused why telling people up front what we charge, in single or two payments, is itself something to avoid.

We do not claim to be affiliated with the government, and our phone representatives do not claim to be a government advisor or any other government agent or representative. Indeed, our website outright declares "Proudly independent of any government" directly beneath the company name, and all representatives are *required* to proclaim we are not affiliated with a government agency during their phone call with you. Your call with the UKBFC would have been recorded, so if you feel this declaration was not made to you, call our client support, provide your name, and your call can be reviewed.

We do not provide any on-call advisory services, however, so the fact that you call it that, and talk about the woman's youtube videos (our only Youtube videos are of client success stories -- nothing like you describe) also makes me wonder if you are talking about the correct company.

I had the same experience as the previous reviewer. Some months after charging me the initial fee I have now been charged a monthly fee which I have not authorized or agreed to. Don't trust them and don't use them.

We only just became aware of these comments so our apologies for the late response.

The UK Business Funding Centre clearly states on its website and on the phone numerous times we are NOT associated with any government, and proudly offer a service that has indeed helped people find funding. This is objectively proven by these client success stories, as found on our website:

PinPlus (Steven Brittan)
Morgan Daniels Training Limited (Richard Morgan)
Decorative Times (Ravi Sharma)
Tynedale K9 Hydrotherapy (Michael and Lynne Ballard)
Vichag Ltd (Subbarao and Jyothi Chaganty)
Justin Crocker
Sportsmanship and Social Development Enterprise (Craig Kirby)
Janette Coombe
Gayle Decorators (Evelet Gayle)
Nathan Muir INT (Nicholas Bowden)

Many people find it difficult to search all available information from numerous, uncoordinated regional, UK, and EU funding agencies. We have full-time researchers who do this difficult task and make no apologies for charging for such a valuable service. The above are UKBFC clients who paid to access our resources, and got funding as a result, because they couldn't find the information on their own. Their fees were also entirely refunded upon getting the funding and sharing their success on our site.

The UKBFC has successful clients who got government funding after finding what they needed from our resources. Simply put, scams and frauds do not have successful clients.

Will everyone get funding? Absolutely not. Do we inform everyone who phones us unprompted that this is the case? Absolutely yes. Like everything in life, there are no guarantees, and anyone who did offer such guarantees to clients is misleading, which we are not.

Our customer service tries to deal with all issues and return all calls. If you do not reach customer service via the phone, you can email us at the following link to contact the UKBFC manager directly and let them know when to call you back:

Hi
Sorry, I had the same experience as few people who have written here. From the first word the lady spoke in a foreign accent and started readying a text and asking whether I have £500 in the bank, I realised it is nothing but a bad setup and managed to get away with her without paying any money. Soon after speaking to her the first thing I wanted to do was to read reviews about the company. I was glad that I made the right judgment.
If you are honest about what you are doing , why can't you advertise on your website your charges and accept payment through the website? Why we have to listen to her non stop reading and then ask for the card details. A companie’s honesty could be judged from their behavior. This is like 'cardata', following exactly the same tactics to swindle innocent customers..
You may have few success stories, out of thousands losing their money, it wouldn’t be considered as a success, rather pure luck
If you are running an honest company, first of all remove your popup assessment questioner and tell the customer how much you charge for this service, clearly on the website. There is no need to hide the charges, if you are providing an honest service.
Don’t try to justify your actions when you are involved in activities behind the screens.

I'm sorry if you feel the prices are hidden on the site -- perhaps you merely haven't found them.

If you click on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) button at the top of the site, you'll be taken to a section that includes a heading "Questions about the UKBFC." In there is a question "What UKBFC products and services are available and what are their costs?" wherein all current costs and payment policies are posted.

As for your opinion about our payment methods, I can assure you that were we to accept payments directly through the site instead of using our advisors, we would then face complaints that are the polar opposite of yours: some people visiting the site would complain that the automation of the payment process would be considered "proof" the UKBFC is not being honest about the services it offers.

We employ representatives so that prospective clients can ask questions, can hear all the facts of what they are purchasing, and decide to make a purchase or opt out during the call rather than being limited by a website-only shopping cart. During the phone call, as you point out, the cost of our services, as listed on our site, is repeated openly.

By your own account, if you hadn't been afforded the opportunity to speak with our representative, you wouldn't have had the chance to make a fully informed decision for yourself. No service methodology will please everyone, but we prefer to give potential clients the same opportunity to make a similarly informed decision as you were provided.

I'm sorry if you feel I am not answering questions directly, so let me try answering your comments specifically.

When you say there are "no grants in Berkshire," are you also counting regional grants or national government grants are available across all of Britain? Expanding the scope of one's search beyond those offered solely in the immediate area may help.

Also, grants are not the entirety of government small business funding, nor are they the entirety of what our services address. Although grants are typically preferred by many small business owners who want financing with no or few obligations, there are even more government loans provided for the sole purpose of helping small businesses and the self-employed.

Typically, when a client complains there are "no grants," it turns out they are unable to find them because they are not conducting a search properly, or they opt to discount loans entirely. Focusing on the perspective of a particular type of small business instead of considering the government's perspective while offering the funding will not likely help you find financial assistance.

For instance, if you are opening a cargo transportation company, searching for "grants for lorries" or "grants for hauling" likely won't net you anything. But seeking grants that can help pay for equipment, are for expansion, start up, or even more general in nature may apply in such circumstances.

Unfortunately, not everyone will qualify even if they find funding that suits their needs, but not being qualified for funding that you believe suits your business, or not being able to find it in the first place, is not synonymous with "there is no funding in my area."

The UKBFC is an information and research resource. We make no guarantees accessing our resources will net you any funding because we have no influence in that regards. All clients are informed of this before they sign on for our services. If you believe you were otherwise, please contact our customer support so they may review your situation with you.

Also, if you find you are encountering difficulties with your search, contact our customer support to see if they can help you.

Sad to see again that innocent people are being taken for a ride on a daily basis. It is very surprising to note why DTI is not taking any action against this company. Operating from Canada, what they know about UK grants. There are very little grants for SMEs in the UK. This is nothing but a scheme similar to CARDATA operating from Canada. These people should be sent to prison. Hope it will happen sooner than later.

Resak, by your own words you admit there are grants available -- but it is also important to note the UKBFC's services are not limited to grants alone. We also provide information that can help with locating loans, tax benefits, and the like that are provided for SMEs.

Unfortunately, not everyone will qualify for government funding -- which is why we clearly inform all clients we can provide no guarantee of their success. However, no matter how much people may wish to ignore the truth, the indisputable facts are that some of our clients have indeed located and been approved for funding by means directly attributable to our services. That's just the facts of the matter.

And, although you choose to mischaracterise my words (nowhere does my LinkedIn profile say I am "learning new things everyday"), I won't comment further on the matter. I do, after all, choose to make the information in my LinkedIn profile public so I have no issue with you quoting it.

“Business funding”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Anniehcto on 19/09/2012

I would like to start a business and looked at investments, grants etc. I contacted the UK Business Funding Centre whose website looks so promising. They called me back promptly and after listening to a long speech told at quite a rapid pace, I was told their service (which only gives you access to a database - I haven't accessed it so don't know what it's like) costs £334 + VAT payable in two instalments and how would I like to pay. It was all pretty quick and I stupidly gave my card details without really thinking. A few minutes later I realised that actually I needed more time to think so I called them back almost immediately to cancel but was told in no uncertain terms that it was not possible. I mentioned The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 which states that you have seven days cooling period for goods or services sold over the phone but to no avail. Looking at their website again now I cannot believe I have been so stupid to think that getting grants from the government would be that easy! There is no free money so don't be fooled. If I had stopped and thought for one minute and told that woman "I'll think about it", I wouldnt be writing this email now. They took my money from my account straightaway, won't refund me and their so called Customer Services 0800 082 3449 goes to voicemail. I have never ever been so stupid and feel very stupid.

This is a troubling issue because, as you point out, if you have not yet accessed the product and agreed to the terms and conditions of use, you are legally allowed to withdraw. If one of our phone representatives did indeed say this to you, it is against company policy and something we certainly want to be aware of. If you cannot get through customer support via the phone line, email us and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Hopefully you recall the person's name so we may deal with the situation appropriately.

“Shall we take things further?”

written by cldance94 on 14/09/2012

Hi I have had exactly the same problem with this company. The UK Business Funding Center (which doesn't even operate under that web domain name) is actually based in Torronto, Canada. I am unsure how a company on the other side of the world is able to offer a reputable service about grants and government funding in the UK! When I phoned them today to cancel the newsletter subscription that I had already cancelled via email, I phoned the call center stated on their website and was greeted by an automated voice message by an English man yet then heard a Canadian female voice message when my call could not be answered. After finally getting through, I was then told I needed customer services (who's number I hadn't found on their website)and which has no 'welcome' message and cannot get through to them. I have done a lot of research (unfortunately after I have lost the same amount of money as yourselves!) and found some forums, articles and certain things on their website that make me think we have a chance of some closure, even if we can't get our money back- although I think if we all team up we stand a much better chance than on our own! My suggestion is that we look in to making a claim via the small claims court, reporting them to trading standards and any other recognised body that could encourage a refund! I am looking in to finding some legal assistance, and if everyone could find some, we will certainly have all bases covered. I think we have a decent case here!, let me know what you think! I'm experienced in voluntary sector funding but new to getting grants for business and was completely taken in by UK Business Grants and their promise to reimburse the membership fee if a grant was secured through them (I should have smelled the rat at that point). Having subscribed I found NOT ONE grant to which my company could apply. I contacted them and got the expected BS but challenged them to find something I'd missed. The next day, they contacted me and agreed that there was nothing for my company, but because I had agreed to pay the fee- it was not refundable. DESPITE THEM AGREEING THEY COULD OFFER ME NO SERVICE THEY STILL CHARGED ME! I WILL find a way to get even!

Their questionnaire doesn't ask enough information, the 2 "Programmes" that came up in the Funding finder I am not eligible for because I am working and have fairly good credit! If the questionnaire had asked me these things these results wouldn't have come up and I wouldn't have even considered paying the money!

I really don't know what to do, as someone trying to set up a business I have very little extra cash as now this is £400 down the toilet which I could've spent towards setting the business up myself!

“Stay Clear! They are an absolute SCAM!!!”

written by on 31/07/2012

They are a scam! They want £480 from you before you even get to see any information and when you do they lead you into thinking that they can help you with getting government grants when in actual fact all they do is give you a directory of information you can find for free on the internet. When you do realise that you have been scammed, they refuse to refund any money even though it has been completely useless to you! They are clever and manipulative. Be very careful! You will not see your £480 again and you will be none the wiser with any grants. It's a con!

Comment Submission:

Comments:: FAO: Director, Owner or Manager, Due to recent government programs and incentives there is a high chance that your company qualifies for a non-repayable government grant. This is a completely free service and even if accepted you will never have to pay anything to us or the company you choose to use the funds with. You can use the grant for any purpose, with any company and it only takes a simple 5 minute online application form; we do the rest for you. You will never be asked any personal information such as bank details and the whole process is very simple. So apply online by clicking the following link:

“Absolute con! Stay away unless you want to waste your...”

www.ukbusinessgrants.org This is a plc company that tries to appear like a government organisation, hence the .org in the website name. All they do is sell you access to a useless database on where to find various government grants and loans, which you can find for free anyway. The company seems to be working in Canada also doing the exact same thing. They are likely to target people on the phone where they will ask for your credit or debit card details and ask for two payments of £167 VAT (which is non-refundable), to make it sound less expensive and also subcribe you a a £9 a month newsletter through the post (you can cancel this though) Stay away

“Total absolute CON!”

written by on 08/07/2012

The woman on the other end couldn't have asked for my bank details fast enough..when I decided towards the end that she couldn't take money just yet as I began to question exactly what I was paying for..(surely if the government wants to help businesses it should be accessible information) basically it didn't make sense to pay 400 quid where there wasn't any guarantees...she even went on to say there's thousands of grants and loans and if I searched for myself it would be time consuming and most would have expired. Ohhh and some lady the month before got 7k of grant she didnt have to pay back ... Etc....TOTAL nonsense. I found all the companies I needed to approach in seconds off google..FOR FREE.. Now this part really got me mad! When I said they can't take any money as I don't want the service (bear in mind I'm still on the phone to her ) she says it's too late as by giving me your bank details you have consented..(erhhh what company doesn't even have a cooling off period? Well I was LUCKY! I had a feeling she was lying and jumped straight onto my pin sentry for online banking..transferred ALL my hard earned money into savings....a few minutes later some bloke calls asking for an alternate card as the one I gave declined...I told him what happened and that was that..I had the last laugh! How dare she lie to me when I had a change of heart. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Uk business funding centre or www.ukbusinessgrants.org

If you have not yet accessed the product and agreed to the terms and conditions, you are indeed conditionally entitled to cancel the sale. If the phone representative you are dealing with tells you otherwise or makes doing so difficult, that is against the UKBFC's policies for such situations. If someone is conducting themselves in this fashion, we want to know about it so we can deal with it appropriately. Call our client support and let us know the phone representative's name.

“Uk Business Funding centre deception”

A site which employs overseas telesales staff on questionable terms. This quazi Governmental page tries to sell public grant information to Uk Tax payers for 400 quid when they could probably get it from local citizens advice office. Complete con. don't bother

Thanks everyone! I'd filled in their online questionnaire then walked away for a bit. Received an email asking me to contact them to discuss further...

...before doing so I always review online to try and ensure I'm not walking into as scam. You've all just deprived them of another £400 odd!!!

The UKBFC is certainly not a scheme. We make no secret of the fact that we collect and compile the information provided freely by government agencies. The problem is the information is provided by different schemes that do not communicate with each other, and that typically don't go out of their way to make people aware of them. For every business grant or loan you locate, how many do you think you failed to identify? Our service gathers this information into an easily searchable format, all in one place, so you can search through the funding quickly and more reliably. We have comments made by some of our clients who successfully found funding via our services. Note that more than a few state they were otherwise unable to find the details they needed despite, as you say, it being provided online by the schemes themselves.

Their database is incredibly small and useless. Most of the queries sent go unnoticed and they have no refund policy. If you want to lose £400 of your money, your more than welcome to go ahead.

I have called them today 20/6/2017 to refund my money , they told their customer services team will get back to me, I am still waiting will they refund the fee? The lady on the phone sounded nuts when I asked for my money back.

I have a letter stating that £15,000 grant has been approved. They want me to pay £175 for the money to be released. Is this a trick?

Anything where you pay them money to gain more money back is certainly a trick. Think about it realistically - your giving them £175 and they're going to give you £15,000 for that £175 - this is the oldest trick in the book.

Absolutely! They were a dissolved company when I checked at the time I left the review which means they are not legally allowed to be trading, they have been GND out to be a scam before, this is just another method of them trying to scam money out of people. At least you have it as a letter, so you have proof if you have already paid it and found it is a trick. If you have paid it, speak to trading standards, if not, I seriously would not pay it. There are no grants out there that require you to pay a middle man, any that are available can be found by searching google for 'business grants uk' and go direct to wherever is giving them out.  Good luck!

if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is... if i had to ask myself this question i would say to myself stay away! also if they want £175 admin fee you can pay them after you get the grant...

I know I've been suckered, having payed £378 for access to their 'funding finder' database. I've tried to find loan/grant application forms on their site several times on their advice following several phone calls to them, but keep getting returned to the same funding finder page. Has anyone had any success with this yet, or are their claims just false? Thanks for reading.

Their claims are false, I am sorry that you have given them the money, especially as you can access the same information for free through the government website and get better free advice. This company should be shut down and all money returned to the people they have ripped off.
