“First Call AVOID”

★★☆☆☆

written by solomon53 on 30/05/2015

In February 2015 I broke down - seized brakes. A week or two earlier I had contacted First Call as there was an odd noise from the front wheel. Normally I would have taken wheel off and checked, but was not very well at the time. They reminded me that if problem was due to wear and tear, I would be charged. Good advice, so I asked a local garage, who noted the pads were badly worn. Got new pads and discs fitted at main dealer. When I asked for recovery from First Call, they said I was not covered, because the seizing problem had obviously been caused by the main dealer. They insisted on taking £281 from my credit card before coming to get me. I had wife with me, on way to her mother's funeral, so just wanted to get going ASAP, so I agreed. Promised maximum 90 minutes delay. After many failed promises, they arrived 4 hours later. By that time wife had got her brother to pick her up to avoid being late for her appointment. I had the car checked by another main dealer, who could find no reason for the seizing, and then it took me 4 weeks and many letters to get First Call to refund the £281.20, and I got no compensation for horrendously late arrival of breakdown chap. Never worth the saving in premium over the big companies.
