“Who said they last Ten Years?”

★★☆☆☆

My brother in law is a heating engineer and he recommended these boilers to everyone 6 to 7 years ago, he even fitted one to his own property he is now regretting this.
I myself had one fitted in 2006 and apart from the usual combi boiler moan of how long it takes to fill a bath with hot water have had few problems with it, however yesterday it stopped working prompting a call to my brother in law who after running it through the restart program said it wanted a new pcb board which he could fit. Upon removing the cover; straight away there were signs of burning to the foam insulation and shield to the heat exchanger telling us that the heat exchanger had burnt out.
This is about four that my brother in law has had this happen to in the last twelve months, they all are just 6 years old. A new heat exchanger is £600 plus fitting and tax.
My old boiler was a cast iron potterton free standing boiler which apart from the odd thermocouple lasted 30 years, how they can say that these things reduce our carbon footprint when you would have to have five of these in a 30 year period is beyond me.
I would not recommend these boilers to anyone the Ferroli company has lost its good name that it had some six years ago.

I have to admit I bought this insret simply because I love all things All-Clad. While it heats well, the indentation on the inside is a problem. I love it becuase it allows the insret to fit snugly, but I hated working with it until I got one of those small silicone spatulas. It fits perfectly in the indentation and it's the same one I use with my food processor. I made cheese dip over for the Super Bowl and I was impressed with the insret's performance. I see that All Clad now has a ceramic double boiler insret. I must live in a test market because I've only seen it at one store and it's not even on the store's or All Clad's website. I forget the cost but, you're buying the insret and the 2 qt saucepan as a set. The insret is removable. I like this original insret better, even with the indentation, because it's bigger.
