8 years after buying an expensive Vi-Spring mattress I had a re-exacerbation of back pain and discovered the mattress was slightly sagging (up to 2 cm in correspondence of the buttocks – I sleep supine) and the soft top layer was somewhat compressed in this area having lost the original resilience. Buying a polyester fibre mattress topper did not help as it lost its resilience as it flattened down within 2weeks. I was then undecided between a Tempur mattress topper, of which there are only 2 types, or a Snug topper of which there seem to be a multitude of types with 2 different type of covers, 3 possible heights (5, 7.5 cm and 10 cm) and various types of memory foam densities ranging from 40 to 50 to 75 to 85 kg/m3. The website is pretty useless at helping you to understand which of the many types is better, though the general feel one gets is that the more dense thicker and much more expensive types could be better, but is it so? If you buy a Tempur mattress it is made of different layers, with softer less dense layers at the top. Thus if you buy a mattress topper should you not by a less dense softer type? I could not find a shop selling this product, thus having to buy without direct experience I settled for the Snug Coolmax 7.5cm 75kg memory foam mattress topper type. It did improve the feel of my old-ish mattress but, I have to say, it seems to perform more like an ordinary foam mattress than a memory foam! I have tried tempur mattresses in shop displays and they really mould to your body whereas this topper (much cheaper than the Tempur topper) does not do it quite to the same extent. Having said that, the Snug topper is much cheaper and still does the job. Perhaps it would even deserve 3 stars instead of 2, but I am annoyed by the letter which came with this mattress urging me to submit a review and copy it to the Snug sales department in return for a £ 5 M&S voucher. Reviews do loose their credibility and usefulness if procured in this way.

The memory foam topper we bought three years ago (from a different supplier) had deteriorated to an extent we needed another. Checking on the web we decided that Snug appeared to offer the best option especially with their long guarantee. We ordered a double topper, 75mm thick and a decent 75kg. density. We ordered online 1.30pm Thursday and the topper was delivered next day at 12.30pm. Amazing! After opening the box and releasing the topper from it's vacuum packing we were delighted to view the beautiful Outlast cover which made the whole thing much more luxurious than our previous topper. There was no smell and the topper returned to its full shape and was put onto our bed mattress next morning. The proof of the pudding in this case was sleeping on this topper. Suffice to say it has given us the best nights' sleep we've had for years and we can recommend Snug's product without hesitation. Great service and great product. Thank you Snug.
