I already have a current account with another bank and am looking for a BASIC bank account. Booked appointment with Coop and brought proof of ID and proof of address. I thought that's all I needed but no. They started a drill with ridiculous questions such as am I married, do I have a will, etc.

I just shut them up and said that mine is an application for a basic bank account, not a job. They asked me about credit history. I was shocked, again I have read in top sites like moneysavingexperts that they don't check for credit history for opening a bank account.

They also said I would have to wait 2 weeks to get 'approved', and that I would have to return in two weeks. By then I told them I didn't have time to waste with their silly requests and that I don't want their services at all and just walked out. Looks like these people have no clue. Will not seek their services again. Hey, there's plenty of banks. I am the buyer, not the seller.
