NCL Cruises, Norwegian Spirit, Exotic Southern Caribbean

On Feb 6 2010 I embarked on my 2nd NCL Spirit cruise in less than 12 months. The prior May I had one of my best cruises on this ship on a cruise from Boston to Bermuda.

On my New Orleans sailing (Super Bowl Sunday), I walked into the cabin and nearly tripped over the end table. It was outside the bathroom instead of next to the bed. I wear glasses so asked for the table to be next to the bed but the balcony cabin wasn't large enough. The moved the sofa to block entry to the balcony in order to put the table next to the bed. I showed the Exec Housekeeper and Hotel Dir how we couldn't get to the balcony so they cut/brought in a mini sofa/chair with no arm rests (a child might fit it).I bought a bottle of liquor and it was taken away (OK). When packing the last night I called and asked for my liquor to put in the suitcase. NCL only gives liquor back on day of departure. F&B Dir told me I could pack it in the suitcase when I pick it up just before leaving the ship. Can you imagine everyone scrambling with open suitcases on the floor in the morning before jumping into a cab? How well packed would that bottle be? Too much more negative on this cruise. NOTHING went right. AWFUL experience. I told my story to many NCL employees who all said sorry to hear. In 2014 I will TRY my 1st NCL cruise since 2010. I hope it is better. BTW I am a frequent cruiser on NCL.

The best part of our cruise was having a balcony and anytime room service. Several hundred spring break college students pretty much ruined our time on the boat, so it was nice to be able to have a balcony room. The employees at the Blue Lagoon and Raffles Court were rude and frowned most of the time. Apparently they do not have to work for their tips considering we automatically have to pay $12/day per person. Our room was always lovely, and the waitstaff at Windows was always wonderful. Belize City and Costa Maya was great, Guatemala was terrible... no good excursions and no where to go onshore. We will definately cruise with someone else next time, hopefully with no partying spring breakers.

We cruised to Bermuda on The Norweigian Spirit. Although this is an old ship, it has been refurbished and is a really beautiful ship. Our cabin was very clean, however our cabin steward never introduced himself to us like on the other cruises with ncl. The entertainment was terrible. Ncl has the same entertainers on every ship, with the same act. It was boring seeing the same acts all the time. Bermuda was great, Great beaches. Did not like having to ferry to Hamilton where all the action is. We were afraid to be there at night and ferry back to the ship in a strange place, so we stayed at the dockyard or on the ship at night. The food is terrible, they have the same old tired plastic deserts every night. no real apple pie, etc. we ate at speciality restaurants. Cagneys is the best. Main dining rooms have mediocre food. I think I will go Carnival next time.
