Just got back, september 2009; we were scheduled for lagoon suite. Based on reviews upgraded to club suite, glad we did. The club was excellent, Butler was superb, club chef was excellent, two of the meals were in my top five meals of a lifetime. All of the staff were great, we were at the end of monsoon season and beach was not officially open. I would say the most beautiful beaches in the world is a huge over statement, many nicer beaches around the world. Went to Leela to relax and was able to do so in style.
Went to the spice plantation tour, Don't waste your money or time. Toured old mansion, it was comical although not intended to be so. I have found out I have had a great life without a mansion. Old Goa church is a waste, not like Malta or Italy. I would go back to enjoy the property... only.

We Stayed At The Leela Palace In Goa In March 2006
We stayed at The Leela palace in Goa in March 2006. The hotel is lovely, but the food was very expensive. It was a lot cheaper to eat out! The best restaurants in Goa are the Fishermans Wharf and Samanthas. The last one looks nothing from the outside, but the pizzas are gorgeous. We are a family of 4 and we ate out for £10.
Fishing is rubbish. If you are hoping for some good sea fishing like my husband was, you will be very disappointed. The bloke from Bettys charged him £150 to go out. No tackle, no idea and no fish!
Thanks

The Leela Palace: Leela's Own Website Tells O
The Leela Palace:
Leela's own website tells of how the hotel is set in 75 acres of beautiful grounds and (for once?!) reality exceeds the marketing blurb. The hotel, pools, restaurants, bars and beach are all the height of luxury. Even when the hotel was fully occupied, we never felt as if we were in a busy resort.
The staff couldn't be any more helpful or attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Evenings are very quiet (often it was only my wife and I keeping the bar man company!), so don't expect parties.
Food and drink prices are in line with a 5-star hotel. However, if you venture out of the resort (there are bars along the beach and restaurants just outside the gates), you will pay considerably less. (As in we had dinner for 2 with wine and beer for what we'd pay for half a bottle of wine in the hotel).
