Made In The Shade, From The Land Of Maroons...

Multi-instrumentalist James “Pall Mall” Wallin and Almostart are at the top of their game with these 10 original compositions. With the help of a crack team of female vocalists this record does not disappoint.

With a sensibility steeped deep in rock n rolls roots, the bands head is firmly entrenched in the present. Each song gets right to the point with no repetitious 4/4 beats here. A complete mix of horns, strings and keys rounds out the sound nicely.

Great Album - I Love How The Lyrics Are So Politic

Great album - I love how the lyrics are so political and the tunes are sooo amazing! Jesus of suburbia is a perfect mix of all different levels of punk/rock! Green Day really opened my eyes, before this album I only listened to R'n'B and pop but now I would never go back to Girls Aloud. They've taught me about decent music!

INCUBUS are a real band, check them out. Privilege off the Make Yourself album is a little insight into what they are like.

Before I Listened To Green Day, The Only Rock I Li

Before I listened to Green Day, the only rock I liked was Linkin Park. Other than that I was strictly rap/underground hip hop.

All I can say is that the American idiot album is ground breaking stuff and they are one of the best, if not, the best band in the world today, period.

Right, that's enough boasting about Green Day on to the album.

American Idiot is one of the best albums I have listened to for a very long time. The music is second to none and at the same time there lyrics make you think and question things that are happening.

Lyrically the best songs on the album are American idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday and Wake Me Up When September Ends. Musically, it is the rest.

For me all the songs are good and I can listen to the whole album none stop.

Gave it a 9 as nothing can be perfect.

Whether you like punk or not, listen to this album. A lot of people where I am from would be embarrassed to admit to listening to Green Day. But after listening to it I didn't care what people think as I know it is one of the best albums and they are the best band in the world.

Whatever Greenday Are, They're Certainly Not Punk.

Whatever Greenday are, they're certainly not punk. What they are is completely mediocre. What with their horrible boring political commentation (rednecks are conservatives? never heard that before). I suppose the American Idiot album doesn't make your eyes bleed, but the boredom of listening to this piece could possibly bring you to take a hammer to your skull. Please don't buy this. If you're looking for real punk check out The Vandals, Dropkick Murphys, or Dead Kennedys.

American Idiot Was The First Album I Bought By Gre

American Idiot was the first album I bought by Green Day, and it changed my life. It made me think that life is not all about R'n'B or Hip Hop, but Rock and Punk. Vast bands have yet to be discovered, and this band was just the first of many great bands.

Green Day Sucks. The Song American Idiot Is A Song

Green Day sucks. The song american idiot is a song to get people to hate Bush. The song itself is not very good either its sounds very fake and it does not have instumental solos. If you want to listen to real music listen to Blink 182.

We All Know Green Day, Most Of Us Have Us Have Gro

We all know Green Day, most of us have us have grown up listening to them. But I don't think any of us knew Green Day like this. American Idiot (Reprise Records) is a rock opera that goes far beyond the many other albums from Green Day. Not only does it sound great it has a plot and storyline! Through out the 13 tracks we follow "Jesus of Suburbia" as he makes his way through life meeting 2 other characters, "St. Jimmy" and "Whatsername".

The story/album takes off with 'American Idiot', which has been said to be a rag on President Bush. The band says the song is up for interpretation and made no further comments. But what would a Green Day album be without a little controversy? While some threw away the album in disgust others kept on listening to this addicting album. The song itself is a simple song, slightly more complex than ones from the other albums, but with that little bit of Green Day charm. The true genius shows in the video, directed by Sam Baer, where Green Day cuts all the fancy technology and goes back to good ol' fashion videos taped in a warehouse.

Following "American Idiot" is "Jesus of Suburbia" which is cut into 5 parts ('Jesus of Suburbia', 'City of the Damned', 'I Don't Care', 'Dearly Beloved', and 'Tales of Another Broken Home') and is over 9 minutes long. Much like the song 'Homecoming' (track 12), which is also 9 minutes long.

The popular song 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' definitely shines on this album but isn't what stands out most. The song 'Holiday' with it's catchy guitar tune and clever lyrics has caught some attention of it's own. Both songs compliment each other perfectly. MTV must have thought so too, there are now 2 videos out. The first, 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and then 'Holiday', which is a "sequel" in a sense, picking up right where 'Boulevard' left off.

The song 'We are the Waiting' was a slight disappointment. It wasn't even comparable to the other 12 songs and, in my opinion, had no place on this album. Its repetitive lyrics were annoying and the background music was slow and boring.

Vocals (lead-vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong was accompanied by guitarist/vocalist Mike Durnt) were good through out and in several songs you could hear the improvement from the last albums. But it felt like most of the time Armstrong wasn't challenging his voice as much as he could have. It sounded as though he had picked a safe zone and stayed in it through out the album, breaking out maybe once or twice.

Guitarists Durnt and Armstrong showed some definite growth from their average 4 chord songs. You can compare a song like 'Brainstew' (from the album 'Insomniac') to any song on this album and find that it pales in comparison. Granted it was a simple song and wasn't meant to be complex, but it wasn't thought out the way the songs on 'Idiot' were.

Of course, we can't forget Tre Cool, Green Day's drummer. There was so much improvement there I can't even begin to compare the drumming done on this album to their other albums. It was quicker and more up-beat. There was also more of a style to it. It was just better! That's the only way I can really describe it, not being a drummer myself.

The lyrics are amazing. Truly and incredibly amazing. There's the humor in 'St. Jimmy' and a few other bits in other songs, but it doesn't take over the album like before. These are songs that truly make you think. This can be heard in 'Extraordinary Girl', 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' and 'Homecoming'. The song 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' is actually about the passing of Armstrong's father (A video is just coming out on MTV for this song). The lyrics are original, I have NEVER heard anything like this. The guys of Green Day are genius.

So over all I was very impressed. I never expected Green Day to pull something like this off. But they proved me so wrong. This CD is a must have for anyone who listens to music. I don't care what you listen to, you have to have this CD. This is a masterpiece that'll have people talking for the next few years. Congrats Green Day!

hi, this is a really good review which i found useful, but the part where you mention the two videos of holiday and boulevard, boulevard being the sequel is wrong. the song holiday is the first track, as if you watch the two videos one after the other, on holiday they are driving along in the car, which breaks down at the end, and at the beginning of boulevard, the car stops, and they get out of it, at the beginning of the song.

apart from that, good review.

Great review, I totally agree. I wasn't a big fan of Green Day before this album (I owned International Superhits, but never really listened to it), but American Idiot is one of the best albums I think I've ever bought. Jesus of Suburbia is my favourite track just because it is so original, but the album as a whole is brilliant. Well done Green Day!

This Album Is Sooo Good For Any Other Band But For

This album is sooo good for any other band but for Green Day it's not their best. They're my fave band eva and they're gettin' old so their new stuff isn't as good and it annoys me that all the little wannabe's all think they like Green Day cuz of their new album I have all of their album and this one is no way near as good as Waiting or Dookie but hey.
