Love My Lab

I have a yellow Labrador Retriever and I love him!. There are some things about him that will sometimes drive me crazy though. He is a very clingy animal. He is constantly in my business. He slobbers and drools down the sides of his mouth occasionally and looks like snot. He is full of energy and wants to play several times a day. His temperament is very sweet. He is only 15 months old so that maybe the reason he still has such high energy. We invested in him and took him to obedience school at 16 weeks. I would highly suggest obedience school for your Labs. He does shed a lot, but we knew that before we got him. He loves to play ball. He loves walks as well. Even though he has some bad characteristics his good characteristics out weigh them. I love him very much and he is definitely a part of our family.

They're Not An Automatically Perfect Dog

Labradors are an incredibly popular breed. Many dog books or dog breed websites state that they are the perfect family dog and are always friendly to strangers or other dogs. One site even said they are 100% trustworthy around cats or small pets, even if they haven't been brought up with them.

Labs are probably the breed of dog I most often bump into on dog walks. They tend to be badly trained ( it seems people often think Labs are guaranteed to be 'nice' and therefore don't need obedience training) and very rude with other dogs. Quite often they are just trying to be friendly, but they haven't learnt how to be polite - a lot of Labs race over, get into a dogs' face, lick their faces and even jump on their backs. Not cool.

We have also seen our fair share of aggressive Labs, and both our dogs have been set upon by Labradors on several occasions. A family member has a Lab that is an obsessive, neurotic mess. He has attacked other dogs, yet the owners don't see it as a problem because "he's a Labrador" and wouldn't ever properly hurt anyone.

Labradors have great potential, don't get me wrong. They're energetic, fairly easy to train and seem to be one of the more easy going high energy breeds.

Unfortunately due to their popularity most Labs end up living stressful lives with little to no exercise or training. They need just as much training as any other dog; they should be socialised as a puppy and once they hit a year old they're probably gonna need a few hours exercise a day.

Beebe

Beebe is a wonderful Boxer Lab mix rescued from the aspsc. She was 5 weeks old when I viewed her. I finally decided to take her home after observing her strengths and territorial attributes towards the other puppies in the pin with her. Now that I’ve had her for more than 6 years, she has more than proved her worth. She’s protective, gentle and very playful. Her knowledge level exceeds most of the so called intelligent animals, and she talks, or should I say respond when spoken to as well as learn commands very easily. Want a great and exciting and remarkable animal. Get a Lab.

Bruce Is Our 21 Week Old Black Labrador! We Got Hi

Bruce is our 21 week old Black Labrador! We got him when he was 8 weeks! He is big, boisterous and very naughty! He loves to chase the cats and has the kitchen bin over at least 3 times a day! He chews anything and everything! Now he is getting bigger he steals food off the kitchen work tops! Oh I nearly forgot he loves to eat horse poo! Oh and twice he has been sick and brought up some kind of rodent! Cats must have killed it and he ate them!

But we adore Bruce and wouldn't swap him for any other dog in the world!

Definitely recommend for anyone to have! Loving, loyal, great with the kids! Just at times a bit naughty!

Unfortunately, I Have Just Lost Our Lab, She Was 1

unfortunately, i have just lost our lab, she was 12 years and she had an anterior cruciate ligament operation when she was 10 years, but apart from that she was healthy, be warned about an incredible appetite, we did well to keep ours at a reasonable 32kgs considering she would eat till she was sick if you let them, or as we found out, leave a box of thorntons continental on the kitchen worktop. labs do grow into the perfect pet, giving loyalty, affection and obediance and also differing from my previous dogs (border collie, airedale and bedlington terrier) they seem to give full eye contact, rather than watching your mouth. that said, when they are pups, they can be quite horrendous, chewing and chewing whatever they can, some people may say this is due to boredom, but to take one out for 2 hours walk, then 5minutes rest and then straight into ripping the wallpaper, this is not boredom, it is apparantly down to the genes of labs, they chew to get their gums supple for retreiving, but yes our puppy chewed the cold water pipe in the kitchen and flooded the kitchen, so in general beware that cute, cuddly bundle of fluff, but rejoice in the fact that after about a year mine stopped chewing and became not just a pet, or even a member of the family, but she became my girl. i still love you, ellie

I Got My Yellow Labrador Retriever When He Was 3 M

I got my yellow Labrador Retriever when he was 3 months. He was crate trained and easy going. He's 10 months now and I really love him. He's a challenge though, I run with him and he wants to go to other people, which I don't like. He chews everything I give him up, including his bed. He does shed a lot and we could not house break him. He loves my running, although he poops out after a few miles, so I will have to get another breed to run my longer runs with! He needs a buddy anyway. Labs are great, they are a lot of fun.

Carbon - Thats My 1 Year Old Is A Great Dog. The W

Carbon - thats my 1 year old is a great dog. The way he comes to us wagging his tail when we reach home at the end of the day is worth everything on Earth. He is caring and good at understanding our emotions. He would never bother us when he rightly senses our preoccupation.
