Dreadful Company
Dreadful company. Didn't contact me to settle a balance then have issued a Default notice with no warning. After being on hold for half an hour to speak to a person they said there is nothing they can do to remove it, though it shouldn't have been registered, then put the phone down on me when I wanted to escalate the matter. Avoid them.

Tried To Charge Me For 6 Months Before I Moved In!
Moved into flat 18 months ago, and flat had been empty for prior 6 months.
ScottishPower tried to charge me a couple of hundred quid for those 6 months, but quite how the gas and elec bill was at that rate during the spring and summer WITH NO RESIDENT is beyond me.
In fairness to the call centre staff they were sympathetic and wrote off the bill.
HOWEVER they are really A VERY EXPENSIVE COMPANY to use.
I would have changed already if I did not have previous payments being paid off by payment plan.
USE A COMPARISON WEBSITE TO GET A GOOD DEAL, WHICH I GUARANTEE WILL NOT BE SCOTTISHPOWER.
Atrocious Customer Service
I have recently tried to contact Scottish Power to discuss a problem with the bill they sent me. I have tried to call over the past 2 days. The first day I was on hold for over an hour and then offered a call back option which I took - the automated voice said it would take 1 - 2 hours, 5 hours later and 8pm that evening I got my call back - I was put on hold for another 15 minutes and then the call was hung up! I tried again today, this time on hold for over half and hour before I hung up. I managed to find online a 'request call back' so I did. Call back came 2 hours later than my original call - again put on hold immediately and ended up listening to the same music for another half hour before I hung up. What's the point of a call back service if you just get put onto hold?? I have tried to log into my online account, I was informed I hadn't registered so I attempted that, I was informed I had already registered so tried to request a new password - again told I had not registered! All I want to do is to talk to someone about this letter - the letter that tells me 'Action required' - I am trying. Please someone from Scottish Power read this and contact me. This is not a company to deal with, customer service is non-existence and there is no help, I am getting stressed and worried that I can't resolve this now.

Avoid Like The Plague
SP wrongfully switched my daughter's energy supply and cancelled her monthly direct debit with her supplier without her knowing. They then failed to bill her or contact her or request readings for 17 months then hit her with a massive bill and threat of registering a credit default. They then repeatedly lied about her rights, harassed her with threats by letter, calls and texts. Finally they agreed to return her to her rightful supplier but left her with a vast 2 year energy bill and no compensation

What Happened To Formerly Reliable Scottish Power?
I was with Scottish Power for 6 happy and uneventful years during which they sent very helpful 3-monthly reminder emails asking for my meter readings and my account was kept accurately. In the last 3 months, however, all that changed. I was told that my energy use had rocketed from £60 a month to £237 though nothing had changed for me at home and my current account was sent into overdraft when they took that sum this August. No more helpful meter reading reminders arrived by email. When I tried to sort out what had gone so suddenly and dramatically wrong with Scottish Power staff I soon discovered that their command of English was very poor and they couldn't understand my queries. Not once did they answer any question. I told them I wouldn't tolerate such idiocy and I immediately switched to First Utility.
Totally Unreliable Home Comfort Contract Appointments.
Totally and utterly unreliable. It took ages for the first service to be arranged for the new Home Comfort contract - bearing in mind that they do not accept taking on the boiler. controls etc until they have carried out this first survey and service this can be risky for the customer. Then, throughout the day, I received contradicting reasons why they were going to be late and then eventually why they couldn't turn up at all. If they are going to lie, sorry I mean give an explanation, surely they should get their story straight first. A day off work totally waster. I regret ever having taken out the contract in the first place.

Problems All The Way
Online portal is archaic. Confusingly the "my balance and bills" doesn't actually let you view your bills! "Bill history" doesn't let you view your bills! You would expect to view and downloads bills from the main tabs but can't. All bills are sent as messages with PDF files. BUT don't expect to find all your bills there thought as I have submitted meter readings several times over the past year yet have to see an updated bill arrive in the message box. They have also made it difficult to actually distinguish estimated v actual billing so the energy consumption figures make zero sense and are of no use to most individuals. There is a "are you on the best deal" button so they don't automatically switch you even though they have the facilities to determine your best options. The options given do not make it clear if VAT is included, you just have to guess. Finally the most annoying feature just doesn't work - automatic refunds for balances over £15 or £5. My balance kept increasing without the refund option work although it was selected. It took over 2 years for me to get it resolved only for it to happen again. That is 2 years of my life wasted on this outfit.
Just avoid them as their systems are archaic, confusing for customers and designed to lock you in with fear uncertainty and doubt.
Update: Closed my account and have now waited 2 months for a simple refund. The emails they send tell you nothing. This company is regulated but it's obviously not working as they are plainly allowed to do what they want when they want. Gone are the days of paying money and expecting your account to be in order. This shambles of an outfit can't even reconcile a simple account. Just stay away from them at all costs. They are a joke.

Full Of Excuses, Terrible Customer Service.
Scottish Power fantastic at advertising all the good they do for charity on there Facebook and Twitter pages but useless at customer service and being an energy supplier.
Gave me excuse after excuse and seemed to not care would rather pass over to the Ombudsman to deal with.
So glad we left them.
I'm in total agreement here. I've had an electric account with Scottish power and thought they were very good my view is completly changed after trying to get gas supply. Four failed agreed appointments , one appointment an engineer turned up with wrong type of meter the attitude from staff has been as though I have some how brought on this treatment myself!. I kept every end of arrangements made. They say it is now level 3 complaint but I have to go back in their system and wait another 10 days for appointment.. I said if took me 5 appointments to go to a dentist, doctor or any routine appointment I would be a wreck! I work full time and have family and had to book four holidays as they insisted some one home..no call to let me know nobody arriving..if you have options avoid these..
Not Worth The Hassle
They maybe cheap compared to other providers but that is not always better. Scottish power state they provide a boiler service every year. I have not had one for the last two years. The first year engineer turned up without appointment and no one was in, so we were told we would have to wait until they were next in our area. This never happened. The second year an appointment was made for the engineer to attend but he did not keep the appointment he finally called to say he was running late and asked if he could come at 8 o'clock at night. This was not acceptable as there would be a child in bed. I made a complaint about this to Scottish power but no one ever came back.
In the time I have had this cover I have had the engineer out a couple of time for the same fault which was not rectified. On each occasion they have not been able to correct the fault ,at first visit, because they do not have the parts and have to make separate appointments. The parts could have been got from any plumbing shop. You then waste a whole day because they never turn up at the times they state.

Worst Company Ever
For the 2nd time in 2 weeks my pre-payment meter broke. Took me a week to speak to anyone in customer service at Scottish Power, the line makes you wait for a while then cuts you off. You can request a call-back by email, but you just get an automated email back the next day. When I finally managed to speak to someone, it took another week to arrange an engineer, then I got a new meter, then had to wait for a new card, only to find that the engineer had taken the meter key with him. Then had to buy a new meter key online and wait for that to arrive. Am now waiting for the £20 credit back that was on my old meter. Was told I needed to top up to get my money back - nope, they took the money in charges, now have been told I need to top up a further 3-5 times to get my money back. This has been going on for 5 weeks now and still no heating. I had a similar problem with my electricity meter a couple of years ago and never did see the money again, estimated a lost around £100 that time. Can't wait to leave this company, although I imagine it's going to be a massive hassle. Apparently you are not allowed to leave a score of 0 stars, but that would be my score.
Q&A
Scottish gas fitted a new meter to my mother-in-laws renovated council house. She does not have a gas supply to the property and Scottish power her electricity supplier have now started to bill her 26.09 pence plus vat per day. Scottish Power say this is for hire of the meter, whether or not she uses gas.Can this possibly be correct?.
Electricity people responded and low and behold, they Do charge for the unused meter and non-existent supply. So there you have it,someone can come along and install a meter on your rented property. You have no say in the matter if the landlord has said they can do so for future tenants use. After a long conversation with the electricity company, they have agreed to remove the meter as long as the ninety two year old lady, pays the outstanding charge of £10.41.You could not make it up,it verges on BLACKMAIL!.WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?.
