Best Western's Unacceptable Refund Policy

After decades of good experiences with the Best Western chain, I recently had a negative experience both with an individual hotel and the office of the CEO that I feel compelled to publicize.

We were a party of three, arriving late at a Best Western hotel, only to find that one of the two rooms emitted what can only be described as noxious fumes. We asked for another room and were told that there was none. The extremely disinterested desk clerk refused to even investigate our complaint. We immediately left and found lodging at another hotel.

When I reported this situation to Orbitz, through which I had booked the rooms, I was told that the Best Western hotel would first have to refund Orbitz before Orbitz could issue a refund to me. The Best Western Garden Villa Inn manager in Roseburg, Oregon with whom I spoke said she would not refund Orbitz as the time of our departure was "too late to re-rent those rooms."

I have since pursued the matter via the office of the CEO. It appears that the "best" Best Western's corporate management will do is a $50 voucher, even though they know that we did not stay at the hotel in question. $50 is, of course, a fraction of the cost of the two rooms we did not stay in. Consequently, I am writing about this terrible refund policy in order to warn other travelers considering a stay at a Best Western.

We Stayed At The Best Western In Falkirk As Part O

We stayed at the Best Western in Falkirk as part of a coach tour to the Royal Highland Show in June 2007. The hotel is quite small and I think it looks shabby from the outside. I guess it was built quite a few years ago as the rooms are really tiny and are decorated in a really antique style with flowery wallpaper, carpets and wooden panels on walls. The TV in our room was really temperamental and the remote control didn't work. The bathroom was not clean when we arrived and was not cleaned very well by maid service either. The bed was ancient and sank in the middle so you rolled together when you got into it. The restaurant food was awful and the staff were poor (it reminded me of Fawlty Towers). Breakfast provided was runny, soggy scrambled eggs which resembled custard. Bacon and sausages, which were not properly cooked through, cold toast, bad selection of cereals. They were horrified when I asked for a pot of water and some tea bags so I could make my own tea rather than drink the cold stuff they were bringing round tables. Dinner on both nights was nothing to write home about either. One of the guys on our table was given potatoes with a large black rotten hole in the middle of it. When he flagged this to a member of staff, he was told that it was perfectly normal and should be like that. We had to then create a scene almost to get it changed. Someone else found a bumble bee in their potatoes. Then there was the fact they told us there was no chips but mysteriously landed those out when everyone had had their plates cleared of the tables. I would never ever stay here again.

The Best Western At The Birch Run Exit In Michigan

The Best Western at the Birch Run Exit in Michigan was very disappointing for a BW. It was under MAJOR construction, and the hot tub wasn't working. It looked NOTHING like the internet pictures, and there was nothing for my two 16 year olds to do. Would not recommend to anyone unless all you want to do is sleep

The Grand Hotel Hungaria This Hotel Is Nasty,

The Grand Hotel Hungaria

This hotel is nasty, I mean nasty interior and exterior, it smells bad. I Decided to have a massage. I was told to lie down, the table then collapsed. Don't go there.
