Scruffy, Smelly And Inept Staff

This is supposed to be a foremost hotel in Gibraltar. We only stayed 4 nights that was 4 nights too long.

The room (132) smelt to be in the vicinity of the hotel garbage bins. The central ceiling room fan had been disconnected because I was told we had the luxury of aircon. The central room light was not working and even after requesting attention to this nothing happened.

The ancient tv had no remote and the picture was useless. The bathroom had black mould scattered on the tiled area and the toilet seat was falling off. When mentioned to the desk precisely nothing was done. The corridor carpets are filthy and stinking. The balcony area had numerous patches of bird droppings these were only cleaned on request after the 2nd day. Some had obviously been on the tiled deck for days as they were dried in.

When the standard of room was brought to the attention of the desk we had the old chestnut: the hotel is in the process of refurbishment'. We did not see any of this activity.

Had my wife not been feeling to well we would have moved hotel. As it was she went home a day early thoroughly disillusioned.

This hotel clings to its past as though that in itself is sufficient to charge top prices.

Bottom line is it is passed its sell by and so to are some of the staff. Two of my colleagues also curtailed the visits and found elsewhere to stay.

We had 9 full days and 9 comfy nights, lots of history, busy town with plenty of back streets to explore and the people are so friendly. The Rock is what the name says, One big rock and it is hilly, great for leg firming.

Wholly reccomend the Rock Hotel as it is the best on the rock
