Over The Hedge

Very shallow story, nothing in it for adults, just 90 minutes for dull boredom. Come on Hollywood up the game; bring us more stuff like Cars and Shrek

I heard about Over The Hedge from a few reviews, saying it wasn't brilliant and was too enriched with family values and tales of morality, however I decided to see it simply for the comedy value of William Shatner and Steve Carell, and I was very entertained!

Parts of this film really shine, Steve Carell as Hammy the pro active Squirrel is a sight to behold! A joke that may have gotten tiresome if too overdone but appeared to be balanced just right with the rest of the plot. Another brilliant peice of casting is Omid Djalili as the spoilt household cat Tiger, who makes a very funny addition to the already impressive cast. Even Avril Lavigne, who makes her screen debut in the film, doesn't make a mess of the acting, when it could've been expected for her to be the main problem in the movie.

It has been said that Over The Hedge's young target audience has left the film in a state of Americana family values promoting the family as a functioning work group and spreading the usual US 'hoorah for everything' atmosphere, but if you go to the cinema expecting such it shouldn't inpend on the comedy of the film. I personally don't feel that the family values came up that much, and certainly it didn't ruin the film as much as some other people have said.

So as long as you realise that Over The Hedge is a family film, and that family value promotion is going to be expected you should enjoy the film, I certainly did! It's a great comedy, don't be put off by the fact it's marketed as a children's film.
