Yup that's right folks Kinect is a must buy if you're into motion controllers or even if you are looking forward to burning some calories I had some pretty serious weight problems and my schedule didn't allow me to hit a fitness club! And thus I bought Kinect along with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved and believe I have lost a serious number of calories in just a month!

“Really good family fun”

★★★★★

written by on 22/09/2011

We bought the Kinect for our children as we already had an Xbox system but wanted them to be a little more active with their games. Well what a great buy as I think my wife and I have used the game more than they have. Its extremely easy to set up, quite strange to use at first but only because it is like something out of a sci fi movie. The games are great and we have also invested in a fitness game which comes with a heart rate monitor so intend to lose some pounds too! All in all an excellent purchase highly recommended even if you dont have kids and usually play these types of thing as we didnt and now we love it... great if you have friends and family around. I bought this Xbox 360 with Kinect for Christmas (for the kids). It was really easy to set up and we had it working in no time. I am no gamer but I did have a go at the included Kinect Adventures and enjoyed it - it takes photos of you as you play but I turned it off - don't really want to show and tell. It took a while for me to get the hang of waving at the sensor. On the two player option we struggle with room as it is in the kids playroom rather than our sitting room - it doesn't always recognise sideways movement. The other games we have are Joy Ride and Sonic Free Riders - the kids enjoy them more. Joy Ride is not really like driving as you pull back or push to accelerate and brake. I have Your Shape but I found it a bit bossy - I can't always lift my arms as it tells me due to an injury. If you have plenty of room the Kinect is good but we can only ever have 2 players in the space available.

The xbox kinect is amazing but it has a few faults, it is hard to actually work if you dont have instructions. It is also harder to use on multi player if you dont have a lot of space so if you are looking to buy this product it is advisable to make sure you have the space else it really isnt worth it. I love the fact you can speak to it & it responds but i dont actually know how to make it do that so please read the intructions :) When i bought it i would have got better games because i got kinect adventures which comes with the kinect but the game gets boring after a while so buy some better games :)

“Well worth the buy. ”

Well worth the buy.
Brought for Christmas and opened Christmas day to have some family Christmas fun.
Took a couple of minutes to get used too but it's well worth it.
Really responsive and is a testament to how far technology has come.

It takes snaps of you playing while you play the adventures game while your in the middle of playing which were quite comical as it shows them as a quick slide show at the end of each game.
Only tested out adventures but I'm sure the other game titles are good.
Definitely gets the heart up too!

Soooo much fun. Could never quite get excited playing the Wii, but Kinect just works exactly like you'd hope (accurate, fast) and you can't get away with just shaking a controller in a certain way - full body required at all times.

Had my partner and I in stitches all afternoon

Love it!

My X box died earlier this year and was stuck between another x box or PS3.

X box came up trumps money wise, and although the PS3 has BluRay, Kinect is much better than the microphone thing that you have with the PS3!

Happy Days!

A fun and enjoyable experience - quite costly though if you're buying along with an xbox as well.

“Microsoft's Kinect is, in my opinion, overpriced for...”

★★★☆☆

written by reviewkitten on 07/12/2010

Microsoft's Kinect is, in my opinion, overpriced for what it is. I recently spent an afternoon at a friend's house and they had just bought the Kinect along with the new Xbox 360. Now their lounge is quite slim so we had to move the sofa out of the way to get enough playing space (about 6 foot away from the sensor). We played several different games, Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Kinect Joyride and Kinect Adventures. The sensor seemed to pick us all up fine and only needed adjusting for the tallest amongst us (it couldn't pick up his arms).

The graphics are pretty good, nicer than the Wii and the Kinect games all use your Xbox avatar. We all got a good workout as we jumped, swung and moved about the room but on some games the sensor had problems understanding (the discus for example kept ending up getting thrown behind our player's backs...). We kept laughing at the playback videos as we looked pretty silly but I had thought from all the adverts that you would actually see yourself whilst playing the game and not afterwards. We found that the sensor got a little confused if you had too many people nearby so really you need a nice big lounge to happily play (oh and high ceilings too! Be careful with your light fittings).

My major problem with the Kinect is not that it isn't fun. It is. It's not that you don't get a really good workout. You do. It's the limited scope of the games. Kinect really suits active sporty games but I mainly play FPS or RPG. I can't see how I would enjoy walking on spot as I explore new areas in the game or use a weapon. Kinect is perfect as a party game accessory and you'd have hours of fun competing, but on your own it would become tiresome pretty fast.

I'm not sold. Until I can see how this fits in with my everyday game playing, £150 is a lot for something that feels a little gimmicky. If you're not sure try it out at one of your friends first. If you love the Wii then this is a big step up both in graphics and sensitivity and worth buying. If you're not a huge fan of party games then wait and see what titles they release next year before you take the plunge.

“THE GOOD POINTS ”

★★★★★

written by on 17/11/2010

THE GOOD POINTS

As an avid fan of the Nintendo Wii, I wasn't sure if the Xbox Kinect would be any better. However, within a couple of hours of owning the Kinect, the Wii was up for sale! It is very user friendly, I'm not a hardcore gamer, I'm a 23 year old female who prefers fitness & party games.

You place the Kinect sensor above or below the TV and you stand directly in front of it. The sensor can detect you from 6 to 8 feet away. We do not have a large living room, just big enough to fit a 2 & 3 seater and manage to play it ok.

The Kinect scans your body and can detect every movement you make!

The movement of your body is almost in real time. It is the most interactive console I have ever come across. My muscles were aching for 2 days after playing it, but that could just show how unfit I am!

In comparison to Nintendo Wii amd Playsation Move, I say the Kinect wins hands down. With the other two consoles you can just wave the remote about and get away with not playing the game properly. However with the Kinect, if you need to jump over an obsticle in a game, you have to jump as no remotes are used!

This moves onto my next point, price. At around £250.00 for the Xbox Console (4 GB) Kinect sensor and one game it is expensive. But, you will not have to buy any additional remotes for the kinect games as they are not needed. It will be cheaper in the long run than other consoles as you will not have to buy accessories to play the games.

THE BAD POINTS

The only bad point is that when you are playing the game, if someone walks in front or behind you it confuses the game. It thinks that the other person wants to play and goes into 2 player mode. It is best if people stay seated whilst you are playing the game.

“Kinect is, and im not lying... the BEST video game add...”

Kinect is, and im not lying... the BEST video game add on you can get. let me start with the graphics... you would exect them to be worse becaus ethe focus would be on the motion sensing, but they are better now than ever before! sure, the xbox guide is a little worse, but its a small price to pay for body control and voice control too! when it comes to motion sensing, the kinect is brilliant, but sometimes it gets confused and jumps around a bit, voice control, however, is another story; there is nothing wrong with it at all, anything you say is recognised, for example, saying xbox brings up some options, and saying play disk, as you would expect, plays the disk. overall, the kinect is purely amazing, however, you should buy some games other than the free 'kinect adventures' because it gets boring after a while and sports some lag too...
