I ended up talking to about 3 people (not in real life - you can't unless you are about to cancel a service). I raised tickets. I used online chat. 4 days later the domains still had not been registered for me. No amount of pestering / emails etc from me worked.
They just did not care. The domains are now registered through someone else, when 123-reg finally decided to register the domains, they found them already registered. No real apology, just a refund to my credit card. No explanation why the UK's biggest domain name registrar couldn't be bothered to register my domains.
I am in the process of moving all my domains (about 100 + hosting - it's not as if I was an average customer) and hosting elsewhere. Avoid at all costs.
And to think that I recommended my clients use 123-reg for their domains!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - YOU CAN'T EVEN RING THEM IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM
