Living in a hard water area we had a constant battle with limescale, still, it was not enough to make us invest in a water softener. Things have changed when our baby developed eczema. Having learnt about the connection between this skin condition and hard water, I contacted Harvey. Their agent gave an impressive demonstration at our home, and in a few weeks our water softener was installed by one of Harvey's highly skilled plumber. We are on a trial period and very happy with the results so far: there is absolutely no limescale, clothes are soft without Calgon, our skin is no longer dry and son's eczema got milder (we realise that the latter can have other causes beyond hard water). The only downside is that softened water does not taste nice - we keep using hard water to make tea and coffee, so the kettle and the coffee machine still needs descaling. But: Harvey also set up a tap in our kitchen which runs on hard water (we decided about having this tap later on, and there was no cost for its installation or the second plumber's visit). Lastly, we find that the salt blocks dissolve a bit faster than advised (one per person per month), but maybe babies count like adults in this matter - or even more when it comes to their laundry. Either way, we will definitely buy the water softener at the end of the trial period.
