Baumatic BWD1409W

The washimg machine was fine. The built in dryer so poor as to be unusable - the clothes would come out of the machine red hot but still damp. No issue - the old dryer was brought back in to use and all was well.

At some point during the first year a pool of water was discovered outside the appliance. As this did not re-appear it was put down to a spilt drink and forgotten. Then, 18 months into ownership the puddles reappeared, the source was identified as the washing machine and a call was made to Baumatic.

Baumatic said that they had never received my additional year warranty registration card (sent to them the day after purchase) and that was that. So, it's £650 for a Bosch which is what I should have done in the first place. They want you to take a chance on Baumatic but, when it goes wrong, they will merrily leave you to it.

OK, I hear you say, the machine was a one off lemon and the warranty reg card genuinely got lost in the post. Well... NO, not true. The Baumatic dishwasher that I also bought at the same time has also failed, the warranty is not being honoured and the appliance is going to the tip.

I have seriously considered suing the retailer (goods not fit for purpose) but, if they conceded, I would probably end up getting my Baumatics fixed. But believe me, I don't want them in the house.

Don't try and save a few quid by buying Baumatic. It really is rubbish and the Company will not help unless they have to. Final thought - they're called Baumatic but they're from the UK; German name, British build quality circa 1975!

PLEASE STEER CLEAR!!

I have had my Baumatic washer dryer for just over a year (BWD 1409W). I was initially swayed into buying this brand due to the 5 year warranty for parts and labour. The machine whilst working seemed fine, not great results, but certainly ok. The large capacity was a bonus and I liked the styling of the machine and large door opening. However once it broke down (just after the first year) things went down hill rapidly. It's now been over 5 weeks without a washing machine, their warrenty service is just terrible. It has taken this long to get three engineers out (as well as several day-before calls to say 'oops we can't come tomorrow after all'. The first guy flooded my utility through carelessness and then didn't have the parts needed. Ordering parts takes forever and they send them directly to the customer. You cannot book another call until you have the parts delivered. They 'forgot' to dispatch one lot of parts. They have changed three parts now, all with no results.The replaced PCB board apparently was also faulty!! I honestly have no faith in them being able to fix it. Avoid this brand like the plague, if it breaks down you won't be able to get it fixed. Their service system is grossly inefficient. I have phoned twice asking to speak to a Manager. Over a week later no-one has returned my call.
