“do not buy it”

★☆☆☆☆

written by charlieoneniner on 05/04/2015

I was initially impressed with the suction on this cleaner but found it awful to push as the wheels don't really work. The cable tidy is so small you won't bother with it and you'll just wrap the wire up and put it on the handle. Within a week you'll notice it sounding strained and there will be no suction. You can empty the bin which will get dust on you as you have to release it from the bottom. Then you'll try and clean the filter which will have loads of dust and hair on. The only proper way is to undo all of the screws and pull out all of the crud from the cyclones. Not well built either as it fell over and tool clip broke. This machine was not designed with any use ability in mind. I keep our very old dyson in the garage as it was starting to feel old when we bought this but it was so well designed I will be save up for another one.

“Don't be fooled by initial results!”

This was a replacement for a Vax Mach 3 hoover which was excellent until it gave up. Anyway this was my replacement on the excellent warranty that is offered. When it arrived it looked the business and to be honest as a hoover it is very good. All the things they say and more! But the 1 star review is because of just how awful you realise it is after using it for a while. It is probably the most uncomfortable hoover to push around. The handle is really awkward in shape and hurts your hand. The main reason though for the review is that generally once a month I have to take it apart completely to get all the dust and hair that gets tangled around the inners of the hoover that you cannot reach when emptying. Once a month I take all 8 screws out and find matted hair stuck in the cyclones which has to be removed to prevent the lack of suction. Not very impressed!

“Incredible power and reach”

Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner What it says on the box: ♦ 300 air watts for constant powerful suction ♦ Easily picks up pet hair ♦ Reduces allergens and bacteria ♦ Cleans to the top of your stairs ♦ Large capacity – 3L ♦ On board 3-in-1 tool ♦ 6 year guarantee What is in the box: ♦ Bagless upright vacuum ♦ Telescopic extension tube ♦ Turbo tool ♦ 3-in-1 tool (crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brush) I eagerly unpacked the box and followed the easy to use instructions on how to assemble the telescopic handle and I was ready and raring to go. The first thing that I noticed was that this was a weighty bit of kit, and once turned on that the suction was so powerful that it takes some effort to push it around. Never mind though, I could do with the exercise! Per normal when I get myself a new vacuum cleaner, I had pre-cleaned all of my carpets to see just how much this one will pick up. Within just a few minutes of cleaning I had nearly half filled the container with dog hairs, debris and carpet fluff. The addition of the 3-in-1 tool and turbo tool made cleaning the crevices, curtains and stairs a breeze, and with the addition of the telescopic extension tube I could get right into the corners of the ceilings to suck away those cobwebs. This is one mean piece of machinery! I can honestly say that I have never used a vacuum cleaner with such awesome suction. The extra long power cable enabled me to have the cleaner plugged in one room and to clean all the other rooms without having to keep unplugging; and the extra long hose enabled me to clean the stairs easily without having to lug the vacuum up the stairs to do so. As I tend to suffer with dust-mite allergies, I was delighted to learn that this cleaner has a HEPA filter that is easily washed by rinsing under the tap. With only a few days use I am pleased to report that my symptoms (itchy eyes and blocked nose) have been greatly reduced – hurrah! Emptying this machine is so easy; I just remove the dirt container and hold it over the wheelie bin and then push the quick release button. This machine has been designed so that it is easy to keep clean. Just a few clicks and turns and all of the relevant filters can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled. There are a couple of negatives which I feel I should point out, if only for the manufacturers to try and improve them: 1) the machine is quite heavy, so if the overall weight could be reduced this would be helpful 2) the cord wrap system on the back of the machine inside the storage area for the hose and makes rewinding it quite tricky. All in all I am absolutely delighted with this machine and would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially those with pets or allergies.

“Vax Mach Air Force 2”

★★★★☆

written by on 19/09/2011

The Vax was easy to assemble with a place for all tools which makes it a compact machine. I did think however that the hook for the power cable could be a little bigger as the lead is very long and tends to slip off if not careful. Having a long lead is a definite plus as it means I no longer have to keep unplugging and plugging in as I move about the house. I found the machine itself fairly heavy to lift though this was not really noticeable when vacuuming and also means that there is no risk of it falling over when vacuuming the stairs. I used to find stairs a nightmare but the Vax solves the problem by having a long hose. The Vax comes with two tools which fit easily on to the machine when not in use. The handle can be adjusted which makes it ideal for everyone to use. I was very surprised as to how much noise the Vax made. Everything else seems to have been considered and improved on except the noise! It really is “loud”! I’m sure this could be improved upon. Having said that the Vax well and truly makes up for any faults by having such super suction. It picks up absolutely everything first time – even small pieces of thread from around my sewing machine. This is a definite must for any pet owner. The fine hair from our boxer gets sucked up easily. The Vax is easy to empty with no messy bags to replace. The Hepa filter prevents odours and ensures that the dust stays in the dirt container and doesn’t go back into the air making it ideal for allergy sufferers. I would recommend the Vax Mach Air Force 2 to anyone who is looking for an effective vacuum cleaner especially pet owners.

I totally disagree with the above review, in my opinion this is a very very poor vacuum cleaner, I have it for several months and I've had to take it to pieces and re-assemble it after every use, the air relief valve goes off constantly making a terrible hissing noise and the whole machine has to be switched off and cleaned again! Heavy, cumbersome and in my opinion cheap components make this a bad buy. I hope other people have more luck with it than I did

Couldn't have said it better myself. Awful hoover that has to be taken apart fully, screws and all to be cleaned at least once a month.

“Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach”

written by Chocolate22 on 18/09/2011

I have three Springer Spaniel so finding a vacuum that's up to the job for the right price is tough. so I was delighted when Vax asked if I would test out the Air Force 2 Reach and tell you guys what I thought. I think Vax are onto something here. I like my house CLEAN and free from Vacuum Dust that doesn't set me off sneezing. One that doesn't require a degree to use and stores nicely in the cupboard or the corner of a room. So after taking it from the box and elementary assembly I excitedly pressed the on button! Holy Moses this thing certainly lives up to its name, unleashing its cyclonic power on my house, forget ordering in a carpet cleaner this thing has so much power your carpet looks fresh and lifted and those mud marks the dog might have left behind... GONE. I was impressed by the Eco packaging none of this extra rubbish to get rid of! Not at all noisy which is refreshing Easy removal of the brush and it can be turned on/off making the transition from tiles to carpet a breeze. The brush guard sits low so no more sucking up the kids toys or even that cable you left on the floor Collection chamber is easy to release and empty. Hose reaches comfortably to the top of the stairs. Furniture is well protected by the rubber guards A nice long power lead! Detachable Tools for every job including a turbo tool helping out on furniture etc Has a great widget to help adjust the suction when using the tools on different surfaces A little light to let you know if there are any problems So there a couple of things that could be better but on the whole I am really pleased with the way this Vacuum does its Job! Its a little heavy but you can't have power and capacity and expect it to weigh nothing The tools are a little fiddly and cable tidy could be better Cleaning of the waste container is a little messy but you only do this now and again. Carry Handle is a little high for taking upstairs If you buy this you WILL have a clean house guaranteed and no sneezing

“Very poor machine, mine lasted less than a day.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SimonandCharlie on 13/09/2011

Well my poor old Vax Swift bagless was getting very tired, but I had been so impressed with its performance that I thought I would get another Vax. I picked the "most powerful" model Mach Air Force 2 U89-MAF2-T due to it's supposed performance with pet hair etc, which my old Vax was so good at coping with. So I starte to unpack the machine and found that the "multi purpose" crevis tool was so badly distorted as to be useless, but I decided to carry on and get a replacement sent later. First job that needed doing was the stairs, so I fitted the handle to the long tube and fitted the "Turbo" brush, unfortunately the clip holding the flexi hose in place is useless, so by the time I was halfway up the stairs it had become disconnected and was back at the bottom. Anyway I held the tube in place and started vaccuming the stairs, but after just two steps a small amount of dog hair had completely jammed the turbo part of the brush, remember this part of the machine is specifically designed to cope with pet hair! I finished the stairs using the old non turbo brush off the old Vax and emptied the machine, not full but I wanted to see how much it had collected. Next job, the hallway. Setting the machine back as an upright, I was very impressed with the way it cleaned the carpet, but not for long, within a few seconds the air was full of dust. I checked that I had put the collector back on properly, which I had, so took the collector outside to check it. The collector only had a small amount of dust in it, but the cyclone was clogged solid by a relatively small amount of pet hair. I cleaned the cyclone out and tried again, but the same thing happened, so I cleaned it for the third time. I had nearly finished doing the hall now ( but would have done the lounge and dining room too with the old Vax) So I switched it on to finish the job, by now not at all impressed by this machine. At this pint there was a gentle "pop" from the motor and a smell of electrical burning. It is now waiting in the box to be collected.

“ Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Bagless Upright Vacuum”

★★★★☆

written by MASTIFF_MOM on 03/09/2011

This Vax looks both elegant and contemporary and was easy to unpack. The User Guide is short, simple-to-understand and mostly comprised of helpful illustrations. This meant the vacuum cleaner was ready to use in under a minute! I liked the long cable (30 feet), which meant that I avoided the irritation of having to constantly plug and unplug as I vacuumed. LAMINATE & TILED FLOORS Using the hard-surface setting, it effortlessly sucked up the daily load of fur hair shed from our 2 large mastiff dogs from the laminate & tiled floors. Having only ever used cylinder vacuum cleaners, I found it quite difficult to move it around corners. People used to upright vacuum cleaners may not have this difficulty. After two weeks, I'm finding it a little bit easier to manoeuvre around corners, but still find it to be a little too heavy. It is very unforgiving with sucking up larger bits of debris, which quickly jam the brush mechanism. A jammed brush means having to stop, open up the brush mechanism and unjam the brush. I quickly learnt not vacuum rope strands longer than an inch and debris items larger than a penny! PET BEDS The dogs short fur usually takes as long to clean from their thick nylon mattress-beds, as vacuuming the whole house. I was very pleasantly surprised at how effortlessly the Turbo Tool accessory sucked up all traces of fur in a single stroke :) CARPETED STAIRS The Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner quickly transformed our old mud-stained stair-carpets into their natural clean-looking beige. Cleaning the stairs was effortless - the vacuum cleaner stayed at the foot of the stairs, while the spring-coiled hose & Turbo Tool gradually extended all the way to the top of the stairs, as I vacuumed. CARPETS Using the soft-surface setting, I was amazed at how much fluff and dust was removed from the upstairs beige carpets. This Vax quickly restored the original light beige colour of the carpets and has removed the need to replace the carpets :) SUMMARY The Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner is extremely effective at cleaning carpets, stairs, hard floors and pet hair but my husband complains that the motor is far too noisy. I would have given this excellent vacuum cleaner full marks if it was lighter in weight, less noisy and had a retractable cable mechanism.plains that the motor is far too noisy. I would have given this excellent vacuum cleaner full marks if it was lighter in weight, less noisy and had a retractable cable mechanism.

I was very happy when the cleaner arrived. I have vacuumed my home the evening before, using my old machine from another brand, so I was very curious to see the difference. The first thing I’ve noticed was that it’s heavier than the cleaners I normally use. But I’ve soon forgotten the difference when seen the excellent result. And it’s very easy to manoeuvre. It was very straightforward to put it together, took only a few minutes without any difficulty. Clear instructions are included, but did not need to use them much. The extension handle and tools are easy to fit to the hose. It is a bit noisier than I’m used to but it’s not a problem. The suction is excellent, both on hard floors and carpets, in a household with cats, dogs and messy children. The brush can be turned on and off as needed, depending on the type of surface is being cleaned. The Turbo Tool is great for cleaning hard to reach areas. It is simple to detach and empty the dust container and it’s easy to keep this and filters clean. In all honesty I am very pleased with this vacuum cleaner. Amazing performance and real value for money.

“Vax Air force 2 reach”

Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner I was excited to get this cleaner as it promised a lot and it ticked every box I wanted for me home. The first thing I wanted to do was put the power to the test as it claims to be the most powerful multi cyclonic vacuum cleaner. To do this I thoroughly vacuum a room using my existing Vax mach which is not old and is also a powerful vacuum cleaner. Then I went over it again using the air force 2, any difference? Hell yeah. I generally was shocked at the amount of dirt and dust picked up. I was not disappointed with my existing cleaner but was shocked at the effectiveness of the new one. The dust picked up was very fine and demonstrated the effectiveness of multi cyclonic cleaners and this one has more cyclones then you can shake a stick at. When the turbo tool is attached, it spins so fast it sounds like a jet engine in a cool way. My 2 biggest bug bears about cleaners I have owned before is the hose isn't that long and when stretched, you are waiting for the cleaner to shoot forward after it and fall over. With this one it doesn't happen. The hose before stretched is very short but extends really far easily. It really will stretch 14 stairs with room for more. Te design of the cleaners keeps a low centre of gravity so the stretch of the cleaner hose will not pull it over. It has a fully automatic height adjustment for any floors. As the brush is independently driven it can be turned off and on when as needed so it doesn't spin when cleaning hard floors or when using the hose. One thing I did notice is edge cleaning. It's not so much the design but the sheer power that pulls dust and dirt towards the cleaner even when it's not over it directly. 3 litre dust container is great as this thing will fill it fast with the power. I found it generally easy to manoeuvre but sometimes it was difficult to pull back, I suppose it is sucking its self firmly to the carpet. I think this cleaner is ace; I don't really have any complaints though my wife found it a bit too heavy which is bad news for me. It is solidly designed and does feel high spec and high quality. It looks like it means business which h is a good thing

Nice, fairly lightweight machine. Good for stairs with the long reach telescopic extension tube. Picks up really well, carpets felt like new after using. Easy to empty dirt container. Very easy to operate and easy to maneuver. On board tools, come in useful. However I did not like where the power cord is situated, as very close to the hose and can be a bit awkward winding up after use, also the turbo brush did not seem very powerful on my machine. Overall I would recommend this machine to others; i think the good points out way the bad. I would give this machine a rating of 4/5.

“Power and Performance - a vacuum cleaner with attitude!”

★★★★★

written by judyspooneruk on 31/08/2011

I was delighted when my Vax Air Force 2 Reach vaccuum cleaner arrived. Only shortly before our old cleaner had succumbed to our relentless demands of it dealing with the fur, dust and dirt that 18 dogs can create in our house each day. The instructions that came with the machine were clear, well illustrated and easy to follow. Within a couple of minutes I had my Vax ready and working - couldn't have been easier.First thing I found most useful is the adjustable handle.I'm nearly 5'10 tall and most handles are just too short for me - which can cause backache when I'm in a cleaning frenzy. This machine is advertised as being the most powerful domestic vaccuum cleaner available - and it certainly lives up that title. On longer pile carpets it's powerful suction can cause it to handle a bit on the heavy side - and perhaps a pile height adjustment on the brush bar would overcome the drag to allow for easier glide over some carpeted areas. I do like the button that allows for turning off the brush bar on tiles or wood floor surfaces, this is very successful on my vinyl floor covering. A major plus with this cleaner is the 4.5m longer reaching hose. I can have the machine at the bottom of the stairs and still comfortably reach the top step without having to stop half way through the chore to lug the machine up the stairs. It also comes with a 10 m length of power cable, so having to keep switching to another power point as you go from room to room or using an extension cable isn't necessary. For cleaning the car out, these two features make life so much easier and in almost no time the task is done, again no extension lead needed and no battling the hose to allow you to get to those tricky places at the back of the car. Valeting the car has just got a whole lot easier. The crevice tool design is very clever as the three heads used for cleaning are incorporated into the tool. No more leaving the dusting head or upholstery head in another room just when you want it. I did think that another inch or so on the crevice tool itself wouldn't go amiss but it does the job, even getting the dog hair out of the deepest recesses of the sofa sides. Once the cleaning is done it's simple to empty the dirt container and then replace the bin on the machine. For a more thorough cleaning/ maintenance of the dirt collection parts the whole bin assembly can come apart for washing and, again, it is easy to reassemble. The cyclone technology ensures that the dust and dirt end up in the dirt container while the HEPA filters make sure that allergens don't end up being thrown back up into the air. Bye-bye Mr. Dust Mite! In keeping with the practical design, most of the filters are washable or are easily cleanable. Overall, I'm most impressed with this machine and wouldn't want to swap it for any other make. It's cleaning performace is unrivalled, the design is neat and prectical and it's a sturdy and durable piece of cleaning equipment. A six year warrenty period is standard with this machine - at no extra cost - and shows the confidence that Vax has in the quality of it's manufacture. I can honestly say this is the best vaccuum cleaner I've ever had my hands on.

“Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach .. A Cracking Cleaner !!”

★★★★★

written by Cerise100 on 29/08/2011

Easily assembled in a few minutes once un-boxed with simply explained instructions, the first noticeable thing is the weight, it is quite heavy when lifted, much more so than my old Vax cleaner. It’s also a little on the noisy side but again not as noisy as my old Vax at least I can hear the phone/doorbell when using this cleaner something unheard of with the old one and I have yet to come across a vacuum cleaner that isn’t noisy. The Good Points Are: Handle can be adjusted to suit your height, meaning less back strain. The flex is long enough for me to vacuum the lounge, hallway and kitchen without having to plug into each room separately. The machine is stable when placed at the bottom of the stairs; it doesn’t show any signs of leaning or tipping when the hose is stretched up them. Extension handle and tools are easily fitted to the hose and the Turbo Tool is excellent for getting under heavy bulky pieces of furniture that are difficult to move. Beater Bar and On/Off switches are situated at base of handle for ease of use. Beater Bar automatically stops when the machine is in the fully upright position. Although a little on the heavy side the machine is very easy to manoeuvre around the floor and furniture. The suction is excellent, even sewing threads, lint and hairs are easily lifted from both hard and carpeted floors and no suction is lost as the dust container fills. The dust container is simple to detach and empty and of course there is no cardboard type filter to carefully clean or replace every 12 months. The Hepa Filter also effectively prevents particles of dust and nasty odours being released back into the air. The Not So Good Points Are: When the handle is attached to the hose for use with the tools the catch does have a tendency to come undone especially if care isn’t taken when the hose is stretched on the stairs. The hose is very rigid and takes some pulling to stretch it all the way up the stairs, which could account for the catch coming undone. Because the flex is extra long it does tend to fall off the storage hooks if care is not taken when winding it. In all honesty I am highly delighted with this vacuum cleaner and would recommend it for it’s durability and performance which I cannot fault, it also offers excellent value for money and is an extremely sturdy machine, like all products it has its Good and Not So Good Points but as far as I am personally concerned the Good far outweigh the minor Not So Good!!!

“Vax U89-MAF2-R Air Force 2 Reach Multi Cyclonic Bagless”

written by Legs11 on 26/08/2011

This vacuum cleaner literally took seconds to put together. It was very easy to assemble, you slot the handle into the top, untie the power cable and I was ready to vacuum. As I’m quite tall I was pleased the handle height could be adjusted which took no time at all. To switch the vacuum on the on/off button is on the top which I found much easier, I’m not great and have broken foot on/off buttons before so this was a better design in my eyes. To get going you put your foot on front of the vacuum and by tilting the handle backwards you’re in perfect vacuum mode. There is a brush bar on the front too which is designed for carpets or hard floors it’s operated easily by pushing a button on the top. There is a small green light near the brush bar, if this turns red it tells you that the brush bar is clogged up and you need to look at it. The instructions are clear and you even get pictures. The first thing I noticed whilst pushing it was that it felt heavier than my normal vacuum cleaner. This is because it has a large capacity dust container, holding 3L. However it’s not too heavy that I couldn’t manoeuvre around easily. It was also great to have the 3L capacity as it meant I could vacuum the whole house without emptying it until the end. I love the fact that this Vax uses multicylonic technology which separates the dirt from the air path, it ensures that the dirt and dust collect in the bag and not in the filters so they don’t get blocked. As an allergy sufferer I specifically chose this as it has HEPA filters and has an antibacterial action which helps reduce pet related allergens. This vacuum has the most powerful suction of any vacuum I’ve ever used or owned. I thought my carpets and wood floor were clean but after using it I was shocked at the amount of dust, dirt and pet hair which came from my carpets and floors. The quality of vacuum on my carpets with the brush bar on was immediately noticeable too. I also managed to vacuum my living room and then right through to my hall as the power leads is10m long! The Vax comes onboard 3 in 1 too which can be attached to the hose or telescopic extension tube. To get the hose extension out you need to unplug it from one end of the vacuum and pull out the handle and attach it to the hose and then attach whatever tool you want to use. I would recommend this vaccum, the suction and large dust container is just excellent plus I can honestly say my carpets and floors are definitely clean now!

I have tried to add this review under the new product as described above but it keeps getting defaulted under the pet vax of a similar product code. BUT that said - this vax is amazing - I have 3 floors nine pets and this Vax allows me to clean all flights of stairs from the centre floor without moving the machine - it also has a long power cord which means less unplugging/plugging when moving from room to room. It has all the features of the pet vax but with the extra reach and I must say exceptional edge to edge pick up. I lvoe this Vax and I hope it gets its correct review spot and doesnt end up in the pet vax reviews. thanks Vax and thanks review centre for listing this product in its own right. Great Machine!!!!
