I bought the DC 08 animal several years ago and found it to be excellent. My DC 08 had a 3yr guarantee. The large brush head packed in after 5years I contacted Dyson and they sent me a replacement immediately. I am still using the DC 08 and will do so until it gives up the ghost. It can be temperamental and needs some TLC. You have to empty the dust container and wash/clean filters regularly.

I have wanted a dyson for years but have never been able to afford one took the brave decision to buy one from ebay, Found this one a lady has owned since new and since it came out so a few years I tested it before agreeing to buy it and it is the best hoover I have owned. The suction works great don't know whats wrong with everyone else's maybe I just got lucky. I have a lab puppy in moult and two cats also in moult so hair everywhere but this works fantastic. I had previously had a vax and a Hoover and they were both a load of rubbish. Love my Dyson

I purchased this in 2003 and have washed the pre motor filter monthly over that time . The vacuun suck only dropped off during the last month Jan 2011. I replaced the pre motor filter and followed online instructions to dismantle and wash the radix assembly. This greatly improved things . I then replaced the post motor filter which resulted in a further marked improvement. It is now as good as new. The servicing has saved me a bomb in not having to replace the machine. Dyson ought to be more upfront about basic routine servicing.

Seriously FAULTY Design. It should have been withdrawn from shops. It worked fine for a month or so and then performance declined rapidly. I wasted £230.00.

Absolute pile of cr&p!! Worked well for about a week then the cution power declined rapidly.
If you have nothing better to do that waste half your life dimantling and cleaning hoovers that ...even after that don't function properly then get a Dyson.
How on earth do Dyson have the audacity to market these things with the 'No loss of suction' thing!! it must be some kind of sick joke. Now it randomly turns itself off.
BTW value for money in my opinion is Zero.
After nearly 2 years of owning this thing i've had enough i'm finding it a nice new home in at the local refuse site.

I've had the Dyson DC08 animal vacuum cleaner for several years now and it's been fantastic. It was expensive when I bought it but the suction power has never dropped and has been by far the most powerful cleaner I have ever had. It is made of plastic but I have not had any trouble with it. As with all vacuum cleaners you have to make sure it doesn't clog up with dirt but if you look after it it will look after you. The hose does sometimes collapse when you twist it but that's due to the powerful suction; if you untwist it it returns to its original state. All in all I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow what a waste of money a Dyson is. I spent over $500 on a DC08 only to have it stop working after just 2years. Just out of warranty of course. I sent it back to Dyson and was told it will cost $240 to repair. If i am to get it repaired it will have cost me over $740 for the unit. Don't buy one!

I bought a Dyson animal as I have a cat that leaves hair everywhere. When I first had it it was really good but now it is useless. Human hair and cotton etc gets tangled around the turbo head, the telescopic hose will suddenly collapse when using it and is very hard to unlock. The suction is now next to nothing and there seems no reason for it. I have been on my hands and knees using the stair tool attached to the hose but still it dosen't pick everything up. When the turbo brush was working it didn't pick up anything that was bigger than a crumb and would flick things about. There is also no up to the edge cleaning and the hose kinks. Thought about buying spares but they are so expensive it would be cheaper to buy a new vacuum cleaner (but not a Dyson).

Awful vacuum cleaner that continuously broke down; the only thing that sucks is the quality and performance of the product.

it's great if you have laminate floors - it served me well for a number of years until i moved into a carpeted home. if you have carpets, dont bother, i had to use a rubber brush to first lift the worst of the hair, then use the stair tool to scrape as much as i could from the carpet. it would take me a good hour to vacuum two rooms and the stairs and therewas always hair left.
the filter gets clogged very quickly and the spinning supposed-hair catcher stopped working pretty fast. customer service is pretty rubbish too - it took them almost two weeks to respond, though when they did finally they were quite good.
after 5 years the catch on the bit that collects the muck has broken, there is a hole in the hose and ive got through two very expensive stair tools.
ive given up and bought a henry hound which has just cleaned my carpets in no time at all to a very high standard.

This Dyson has briiiant suction through the convoluted hose, until I put the head on-then no suction whatsoever. The head has been totally dismantled and cleaned but no difference at all. There are no blockages in the system,no splits in flexy parts and I am fast becoming irate with it.Does anyone have a solution?

A complete waste of money, does not do what it says on the tin!! Don't buy a Dyson, mine has very poor suction I have to brush the dirt into a heap and then suction it up with the hose only, as the brush doesn't pick up anything. It is so frustrating . Never again will I buy a Dyson despite all their marketing and advertising. I am off to buy a vacuum at Lidl tomorrow.

Do not waste your money on this vacume, stops picking up pet hairs very soon after i purchased it, did contact dyson but to no avail, you spend more time trying to sort out why it will not pick up, rather that doing any cleaning with it. DO NOT BUY ONE.

After the Dyson DC08 Animal I am never buying another dyson again , buying a Henry know this is value for money and works and virtually indestructible. The cable rewind next to useless after 6months. The telescopic arm not a great idea badly designed bulky takes several attempts to make it lock. Altogether poor product NOT good value for money.

I have loved my Dyson DC08 Animal and haven't had any mechanical failures. It is bulky though and I don't think I'd buy another. Mine cost £200 at the time I bought it brand new, probably back then it was worth the money but I would not spend that again on a Dyson. Overall, great vac but bad design.

I own a Dyson DC08 Animal with telescopic handle and i find it easy to use, it cleans well and easy to maintain. It is rather noisy though.

Disappointing, considering all the reviews were so good about it. have lost now suction after less than a year. have had minor issues with it - frustrating!

Suction on my Dyson DC08 is just okay. Replacing after less than a year - not because it's broken, but I can't put up with it any longer. Would not compare it with a previous Dyson. Will never buy dyson again.

Reading other reviews of the Dyson DC08 Animal I am relieved to see it's not just me that thinks it's useless! I have a dog and it only picks up the very loosest hair, grinding the rest into the carpet. I end up having to wash the filter, empty it, and clean out the turbo brush after virtually every use otherwise it just doesn't pick anything up. The turbo brush looks very impressive and is great when it is just cleaned, and works for about one use. After that the hair it picks up just gets wrapped around the brush and slows it down, until it just stops spinning whenever you touch it on the carpet, making it completely pointless. Then to clean it properly you have to take the whole head apart to get to the brush, rather than just pick the fluff out like you do with a normal hoover. I end up hoovering whole rooms with the tiny nozzle just to pick up the hair. Nightmare - it's all style and no substance, don't buy it. I'm getting rid of ours and getting a nice simple reliable Henry instead.

This Dyson is a waste of my money and energy. It is heavy to carry and very hard to use. Mine has also stopped picking up all dog hair and fluff with the turbo attachment so I have to vac with the smaller attachments making it very difficult and tiring.

I have my Animal Dyson 3 years now and while initially it was wonderful it is now not functioning very well and refuses to pick up soft fluff on the carpet. I have to resort to a hand brush. Like another user I now have to use the small head and it was trying to source a new turbo head that I discovered all the negative comments. I have now decided not to replace the head and will, probably, eventually buy another model.

Mine is exactly the same, I'm sick of going over the same piece of carpet time after time trying to get the vacuum to suck it up, I end up picking bits up with my fingers. I've had it 3 years and can honestly say its the worst ever vacuum I have owned, if anyone reads this review DON'T BUY A DYSON, Its a wonder they haven't been sued under the Trades discription act. ITS A LOAD OF RUBBISH, in fact it will give me great plesure to throw the thing out of the top floor window and buy a decent one! I've been told by professionals that you can't go too wrong if you buy a HENRY.....my money is on that next time, which incidently will be quite soon, I wouldn't even give it one star because its not fit for purpose, I hope that DYSON are reading these reviews.....
