“Mohawk M105”

★★★★★

written by Dominick439 on 11/02/2024

I needed a couple of tyres for my Yeti and bought these during lockdown as it was all that they had in stock and only two left. I assumed that Mohawk were probably Chinese, which they probably are, although I understand they are owned by Yokohama. I was expecting the worst, but to my surprise I can't fault them. Whilst it may be the case that different tyres perform differently on different vehicles, all I can say is that in respect of my Yeti they perform as good as any tyre I have ever had on any of the multitude of cars I have owned over the years, I have had no issues at all whether in the wet or the dry. They wear really well and I can replace all four for the same price as one premium brand tyre, this shouldn't be the case but it is and I'm no 'Sunday' driver, I like to drive 'progressively' shall we say.

“No good in the wet”

★★☆☆☆

written by UK3l30 on 27/10/2021

Ok in the dry but in my opinion not fit for driving in the wet. When I first had them fitted I thought the lack of grip was just because they were new and had a sheen on them, but after a month they are still useless. There is no grip on acceleration and deadly on roundabouts and sharp corners. They are that bad I dread driving in the rain as there's been so many close calls. I wont be buying again.

“Mohawk tyres, absolutely lethal in the wet.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KirstenFagan342 on 27/09/2021

I recently purchased a used Mercedes E Class estate from a non franchised dealership. It was fitted with four brand new Mohawk tyres immediately prior to my collection of the car in July 2021. On the whole I've been very impressed with the vehicle and a week ago undertook a longish journey to the peak district via a tour of the Cotswolds. All went well until I encountered a twisty road during intermittent rain and the car completely lost grip on a corner. At the time I was in a line of other cars travelling at around 35-40 mph and none of the others appeared to experience a similar problem. Fortunately I'm a skilled driver with over fourty years of race circuit driving experience and my natural reactions kicked in to prevent what could have been a very serious accident however the same incident involving a less experienced driver could have ended very differently indeed. I intend taking this matter up with either the manufacturer and / or importer as I fully believe that these tyres are in no way fit for UK highway useage. I would urge anyone who is trying to save money and considering buying these cheap tyres to think again and buy a better rated brand.

“Mowhawk budget tyres are dangerous avoid at all cost”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MarkCeed on 29/07/2012

Normally I always buy premium tyres and don't mind spending money on them. I needed to buy two new tyres to sell my 1.6 diesel Kia Ceed - not a performance car. For the first time in my life I decided to buy budget tyres to save some money. Mistake. I bought two Mowhawk tyres, which are described as a mid-range budget tyre, costing £125 fitted for a 225 45 17 inch tyre. Obviously, I didn't expect the same performance as the usual type of tyres I buy (Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear etc.) but nor did I expect the extremely poor performance and dangerous handling these tyres offer. The first corner I took at normal speed was terrifying. I thought the tyre was going to come off the rim, whilst at the same time I thought the back of the car was going to spin out. After checking the tyre pressures I tried again, but the result was the same. Just prior to selling the car, I had the unfortunate pleasure of driving the car after it had been parked outside on a very warm day. Even in a straight line, the car felt sloppy and unbalanced on the warm Mowhawks. These tyres will be worse still in the wet and cold. Please avoid these tyres. For another £15 per tyre, I could have had two Kumhos, which I know from experience are in a different league. Thankfully I only had to use the car for a week with these tyres before selling it on.

I have just purchased 2 195/60X15 Mohawk M105 88V tyres, fitted to the front wheels of my Toyota Avensis car by Mr.Tyre Ltd., Worcester. I'm now very concerned after reading a review by a customer who had Mohawk Tyres, stating that he considered them to be dangerous. I'm due to go on holiday next week and will be driving on the Motorway and would very much like your opinion on this matter.

Thanks for answering this question.
