AussieMalcolm's review of Marks and Spencer Travel Neck Pillow

“Do you really need a neck pillow?”

★★★☆☆

written by AussieMalcolm on 01/08/2014

I have been using a neck pillow for a number years, and so took one with me on my recent return trip from Australia to England, flying economy class with Singapore Airlines. But I found that the seat headrests had adjustable 'wings', which cradle your head after you extend them appropriately. The wings stopped my head falling to the side when I was asleep, and so did the main job I used my neck pillow for. I found the wings just as comfortable as the neck pillow, and less of a nuisance. Walking round the plane I noticed that fewer people seem to be using neck pillows than a few years ago, presumably for the same reason as me.

The neck pillow takes up space in your hand luggage, and needs to be carted around with you on your travels. I will not bother with it in future. By the way, you can't use the pillow AND the headrest wings - each gets in the way of the other.

PS: It occurs to me that short people (and children) or very tall people might still benefit from a headrest because the seat head 'wings' are of course at a fixed height.
