“insulting, insensitive and inappropriate”

I called flexicover last night to try and arrange my insurance for next months holiday, I made the call as I am due to undergo ivf and start injections next week which will carry on whilst im on holiday. The person I spoke to screened me for medical conditions and said there would be no further questions when I declared ivf then when to double check with his supervisor, on return he said as I don't have a medical condition for ivf he would screen me for infertility and asked me inappropriate questions, as I don't have the fertility problem he asked why am I declaring a medical condition (I have to have the treatment!!) at which point I got very upset due to it being a very sensitive subjet to me.
He said I could take out the policy there and then but would have to call back next week to get cover for the condition as I am not actually having injections until then. I refused to take out the policy not knowing how much they would charge to cover me and also the insensitive way he dealt with my problem has upset me very much, I will try another insurance company and pay more for the service if I have to.

Thank you for telling us about your experience. We’ve investigated the call and appreciate that, whilst the customer service agent was asking the necessary questions in order to assess the policy’s medical warranty, it could have been handled more sensitively and better explanations given. The situation you describe presents a scenario that is encountered infrequently - that of treatment or procedures that are taken electively. It should have been explained that we cannot offer cover for any complications that might arise as a result of the self-administered IVF as these would not count as “unforeseen circumstances”.
