We booked a 4 bedroom luxury apartment for a family holiday in new York
with Wimdu, 3 weeks prior to departure we were advised that the current tenant refuses to move out so we have no accommodation. Wimdu offer alternative apartment, Given it is Xmas we have no chance to book another 4 bedroom apartment and have little choice but to take the apartment, it is described as:
Recently renovated and cleaned to perfection.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Its a walk up 3 flights, its very old and run down. The central heating keeps breaking down and we are in the coldest winter in New York in 100 years. We have had ongoing problems with the apartment, too many to go through now however following is my latest email highlighting the problems, I have had no response.

We have enduring another freezing night without heat, the central heating broke down again at approx 10pm last night and has not been fixed.

We urgently need alternate accommodation as the living condition here is untenable.

I have made numerous requests for more blankets, as previously advised we only have one blanket per bed, it is shameful and negligent to knowingly leave people in an apartment without heat or sufficient blankets. As you are aware the small electric heaters will trip the fuse when more than one is used and are useless in this weather.
We also have a multitude of problems in this apartment, some have been repaired but others have not or have failed again, eg the lights in the bedroom, hallway and bathroom were not working on arrival and within hours of being repaired the bedroom light failed, the dishwasher was supposedly repaired but is now only half working, the windows still let in inordinate amounts of cold air, we have a mouse infestation, we suffer electric shocks when using appliances, the dining chairs are falling apart and are dangerous etc etc.

The apartment was clearly not prepared for winter prior to our arrival, the removal of air conditioners has alleviated somewhat the ingress of cold air to the apartment but the windows in the kitchen/dining area let in so much cold air that we have abandoned that area. The rear bedroom has no central heating at all and the 2nd bedrooms central heating has not worked since the first breakdown. What a nightmare this holiday is turning into !!!
