“Grand Bali Hotel is Over Rated”

★★☆☆☆

On arrival at the lobby looked great. The reception staff were busy but quickly gave us our key cards for our room. We had to wait a while on a lift to become available though. (Throughout our holiday these lifts posed a huge nuisance with them being so slow and the smaller ones only ever took two people before the weight limit bell would ring.) Our room was sub standard for what I would expect from a four star hotel. The wood work was tarnished. Décor was most certainly in need of updating. The bathroom ceiling had gaps and we could see electrical and plumbing. Rubber seals around the shower cubicle had not been trimmed to size and finished correctly. The mirror had not been cleaned but what really super exceeded those problems was the most disgusting smell of desalinated water. We could hear people in the rooms surrounding us using their toilet and the constant noise of toilets flushing was not something we had banked on at all. I used the tap water once to clean my teeth and my toothbrush later that evening was rock solid. We had to go and buy new tooth brushes and the rest of the week we used bottled water to brush out teeth in. As far as the beds go the mattresses were so hard and after the first restless sleep and our backs in agony we asked at reception if they had softer mattresses. They said all the mattresses were the same. Therefore, we asked for extra pillows so we could put them down. They managed to conjure up five!!! There was no duvets there at all but instead our room had blankets that looked as though they should be put under a horses rug. There was no tea and coffee making facilities in our room and no mini bar. I had to complain in day three to reception after the house maid constantly pulled out the card that made the electric work as we had put food in the fridge and was constantly warming. Lots of light bulbs were out and lights in the corridors only worked when the sensors picked up our movements.

We were all inclusive but we may as well should of saved our money as the food was very poor. The hotel said they catered for a vegetarian diet. Well I did not expect to live on lettuce and tomatoes all week. My partner who is not vegetarian was even struggling. A lot of food was cold. I ended up with such an upset stomach with the hotel food that I need to visit the paramedics. We could not get bottled water at breakfast unless we paid extra for it. They said it was only available at lunch and dinner times. The bar as expected only had their own brands of alcohol for all inclusive but be prepared to wait a while on service. I was waiting twenty minutes at one point just to get served and there was only two other people at the bar. Oh and if you don't want to drink from a plastic cup tell them your sitting inside for you wont get a glass outside to the poolside tables.

The Key card stopped working and reception wanted to charge extra saying I had it next to my mobile phone. Well at that point I lost it as my phone was left in our car back home in the airport car park lol.

Overall the hotel is certainly over rated. I'm sorry to say I have had better service in three star bed and breakfast. The hotel experience shadowed my holiday so much that I was in tears at times. We will certainly choose another hotel in future.
