Chequers Hotel Newbury August 2013 Room 309 smelt of "aftershave" .The wife says there's no water. Back to desk. The girl says " ah the water arrives in 10 minutes" Felt like we're on the set of Fawlty towers. Tempted to aask for Mr Fawlty but thought the girl might miss the point Had to ask for a Coffee. Charged for coffee- delivered in a chipped pot. Gave it 30 mins plus, had to ask again -yes the water's on. The cold tap had been left on and was stuck on and basically room 309 was being flooded. Back to the desk -they offer us another room which was very nice although the floorboards creaked.
The meal that night was correspondingly very good indeed.
Breakfast in AM cooked yes but we were still eating our cereal when the cooked breakfast arrived and instead of taking it back and keeping it warm it was left on our table getting cold ( with the implied message to hurry up)
In short -you don't know whether to laugh or cry
