“Great little unit”

★★★★★

written by bwMartin203 on 17/10/2016

I've had my unit for about 3 years now. I did leave a space of time without updating it when it proceeded to drive me nuts telling me about SPECS camera's that were long since removed - but that was my fault. I just renewed my subscription and updated my Inic8tor and its bang up to date with info again. Ignore the guys that claim it wont update - it will do so and very easily if you are anything even approaching competent. I run a fairly high spec Windows 7 machine and have no problems at all whether I use serial or USB updates. Same with either of my laptops. If I had to find a niggle with the unit - there is no mute button. We all know there are tolerance limits to camera enforcement, I generally drive at the lower end of the tolerance threshold, but even at 1 mph over the limit and the unit sounds off - it'd be good to shut it off after that initial warning. Instead I find myself unplugging it through looooong SPECS camera zones and setting the speed to 52 mph on my cruise control instead.....where there is a will and all that. That aside, it is brilliant. IF you can still find one, buy it - it's way cheaper than other units and very user friendly

“This little gem has saved my bacon!”

★★★★★

written by Visual1949 on 30/04/2015

Purchased 2007,for £45, a small price to pay for peace of mind, having been banned for 6 months (all SP30s) I could not drive without my indic8tor. I could have sold box loads of them to people who have been really impressed with the quality of the product, the best accessory I have ever purchased with great back-up support from Blackpool!

“Updates are always a problem”

★★★☆☆

written by Smoot on 04/04/2013

I thought it was a great product when it's in use, but updates are trouble. Whenever I want to update my unit it takes several attempts lasting up to two and a half hours. It crashes my PC refuses to update, always saying error. I once contacted Indic8tor who sent me a CD to remove and reinstall the software, but I still have problems, even now about three years on I'm still struggling. I've just wasted two and a half hours just trying to update it, once again repeat problems, I have never been able to just connect and update it drives me mad. At the moment the unit beeps and flashes once I go over 20mph and only stops when I drop below 20mph, I wasted 2 hours trying to update it with all the errors etc, crashed my PC again, then it finally updated, but it still has this fault. Do I fling it in the bin or is there something I can do about it ?

Clear precise voice works from anywhere in car, mine sits in dash cubby hole. Sound seems to emanate from all around quite amazing from such a small compact unit. Very pleased. Simple press of a button to add any areas you wish to bb reminded of. Would recommend this device to anyone and have done so. Passengers in car always comment on unit and ask for details.

The Indic8or speed camera detector is by far the best purchase you could make, had mine for over a year and the database is spot on, by far the most uptodate speed detector on the market at a great price.

I understand this product seems to be quite good, however I just wish they would make it obvious that if you drive a Citroen, Peugeot or Renault, you might have a problem.

Useless, spend your money on wine or women but I don't recommend you bother with Indic8tor, burn the money instead.

I have had the Indic8tor for three weeks now and it is the best motoring device I have ever purchased. It is sleek looking, doesn't take up much room on the dash and is small enough to stow away out of sight to thieves. I am amazed at it's inginuety at picking up max speed areas. The warnings are brilliant. Every motorist should invest in one. Worth the £30 a year for updates. Compared with similar products on the market this is the best value for money. I have researched them all and find this the best buy.

written by Mr Q on 15/08/2007

I have used my Indic8tor now for 7 months, it has never let me down and has picked up every camera. Even though I travel the same route to work every day, it's so easy to forget the speed cameras especially when I have other things on my mind, Indic8tor always reminds me of the cameras and tells me to slow down if I inadvertently go over the speed limit. I would never go on any journey without my Indic8tor.

“After watching Ideal World shopping channel I decided...”

★★★★★

written by Mickie30 on 14/08/2007

After watching Ideal World shopping channel I decided to buy an Indic8tor. I've never had any smart gadgets in my car before and I thought now is the time to treat myself. It was definitely a smart purchase and I'm completely satisfied with it. I love the stylish look of it on my dashboard and the security of knowing I won't go over the speed limit.

I've had the Indic8tor for about 3 months now and it has never let me down once. It's like having a friend in the car with you. It tells me to slow down if I'm going too fast and the voice is very pleasant to listen to. It was easy to install and just sits on the dashboard plugging into the lighter socket.

The Indic8tor is easy to use and is extremely useful. I would feel lost without it. It is simple to use which pleases me because I'm a bit of a technophobe. I also liked the adhesive because it is very effective and sticks to the dashboard well. It has never come off whilst I've been driving. It takes about a minute to power up which I thought was excellent.
I would say it's sophisticated and very effective. Altogether it's a smart machine that is very comprehensive. The indicator costs just £99 and comes with an up to date database, however in order to get your 3 months free updates you will have to subscribe to either a 1 year, 2 or 3 year subscription so the £30 1 year subscription will actually give you 15 months use. I think it's very good value for money and you'd find it difficult finding a device that compares in accuracy or price. I'd definitely recommend the Indic8tor to anyone even technophobes.

I took Indic8tor out for a trial and honestly could have done better with my eyes. It made so many errors on my route it wasn't worth the entertainment value. Plus very annoying.

“This has to be the worst GPS Speed Camera Detector...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by teramo7 on 19/02/2007

This has to be the worst GPS Speed Camera Detector ever. The idea is good, but every GPS system relies on a good database, and even after paying £29 for the recent up-to-date download, the system failed to locate any possible mobile sites that I regularly see for the past 3 years, but it warned me of some that has not been seen ever in the last 10 years. It makes you feel that you have just been mugged because to get the recent downloads you have to pay £29 up front, which is money wasted. When you ask for a refund, you don't even get a reply.

“I paid £29 for the additional 12 months subscription...”

★★★☆☆

written by telsreviews on 06/10/2006

I paid £29 for the additional 12 months subscription (over the three months free - which you only get if you pay to subscribe) for the most up-to-date camera database downloads and I updated the Indic8tor unit straight away.

In the following three days travelling, it missed 3 fixed cameras, made 2 false red light camera alerts, 3-4 random alerts that binged on and off again, and missed 3 specs zones (two on A1, one on M1). I was so disappointed. The false alerts are worrying and distracting because I was desperately looking around for the source of the alert, which wasn't there. I was also unsure whether I trusted the alerts for cameras in the overhead gantrys on the M25, more because I wasn't convinced that it wasn't missing any. Also there was no countdown alert in distance to the camera, only a voice alert warning of 'variable speed camera'.

If I'd calculated the number of cameras on my journeys I would estimate the accuracy of the unit could easily have been as low as 60%, which definitely isn't good enough. When I phoned to complain and ask to return the unit I was advised that I could add the missing cameras with the user memo function, but that defeats the object of the unit and it's highly unlikely that I'll use the same route again.

I like the idea of the unit in principle and I can understand that cameras can move and disappear as quickly as they appear but ultimately the unit needs to be much more accurate because instead of making me feel more assured on my journey, it made me feel more anxious. I don't speed everywhere and purchased the unit really for unfamiliar areas to avoid being caught out. I don't think I'll bother trying to replace it with another device.

Best bet is the Talex GPS. My family have all purchased one as we were all so impressed with it, and it has never missed either a fixed camera site or mobile camera site.

I have been using the Indic8tor now for 3 weeks, and it's by far the best purchase I have ever made. The week that I got it I had to go on a long journey from London to Cornwall. There are many speed cameras on the way but I didn't get caught by any of them, because the device warned me that I was exceeding the speed limit and that I needed to slow down. It looks stylish and sexy on the dash board it's not too big. All in all I think it's a good buy.
Every road user should have one.

just a shame that once you purchase it you HAVE to spend out another £29.95 to be able to get the camera database to download

★★★★★

written by Psmith on 25/11/2005

I bought the Indic8tor GPS Speed Camera Detector a week ago. It is a new product out, and I was wary at first, but at the price I could not argue. It is considerably cheaper than the likes of the Road Angel. When I came to install it, it was done with ease. I just mounted it onto the dashboard and plugged it into the lighter socket. Once it was on, I took my car for a drive to see if it found the cameras in my area, and it did not miss a single one. It uses an audible warning so you don't need to look at the unit at all. I have been using it for 7 days now, and not had any issues with it at all.
