I bought the 301 V's after a rather unpleasant encounter with a pair of Klipsch RF-62 II's. The horn was really directional, so I decided to get a more conventional system. The 301, being a speaker of endurance (many people have owned a pair for 10+ years). Okay, I already had a pair in another room.
The 301 lays out a good sound stage, it's reasonable efficient and according to YPAO, bass rolls off where it did on my RF-62's, so my subwoofer is active from 60 Hz. The thing that strikes me most is that they are not directional (tinny) or strident. I suppose that puts them in direct contrast with the speakers they replaced (Klipsch RF-62 II's).
No, they won't overpower or go as loud as the RF's will, but along with a Klipsch RC-62 II center channel and a Klipsch subwoofer these bad boys make for a great sound stage. Yamaha Parametric Audio Optimizer took care of all the little Db bumps that happen (the RC-62 is 4.5Db more efficient).
All said and done, as a life long Klipsch heritage customer, I hope I can get my old Chorus II's back and after going through the $800 a pair RF's well, these speakers are really nice. The sound state is awesome and they're a great bang for the buck.
