★★★☆☆

I bought one of these a few years ago for about £89 in Woolworths and at the time it was at least £100 cheaper than a tom tom. Back then most sat navs weren't that great including BMW business built ones. Being on the road a lot for my job it certainly was better than trying to read a map, especially at night. So it served its purpose - better than not having one, but compared to what you can buy now and how cheap they all are now, its a bit obsolete. I do not know how to update it, however, unlike a built in model, you can use it on a bicycle or on foot when rambling out in the country side. So fair in its day, but not something I would purchase today. Luckly my current company car came with a good built in sat nav. I also recently bought my wife an aftermaket built in unit which is made to look like original equipment and does everything including playing DVD films, but then it did cost me 10 times the price of the RC300.

good little machine , for taking routes you would never think of going, not ideal for lorries,as some of the short cuts are to narrow even for the four by four cars.far superior to the tomtom machines, will find most addresses where tomtom mainly wants postcode destinations or you dont get there..the only thing i dont like about it is you cant upgrade,as its all on an SD card, and no instructions to upgrade, so if roads change then you dont know,as the car suddenly drives across a field to the road. also it tells you to turn into laybys as this used to be the road at one time..

ok when you nstart your journey but before you reach your drstination it has a habit of crashing so you have to stop to reset and wait for it to reconfigure - very inconvieniant.

I'm not sure the Roadcom RC300 is up to the job. It takes you the long way round and then gets lost. Tells you to do a U-turn when you know you are on the correct road.

written by theoandre on 16/04/2008

My Roadcom RC300 can't even locate my address, even if I enter the post code, street name and number. When I try to locate via gps, it gives me an address 10 houses down the road. Not very happy at all with my Roadcom sat nav, have previously used a borrowed Garmin, should rather have spent the extra money and bought one of these.

Overall the Roadcom RC300 is not bad, but is badly let down by lack of availability of map updates. Most other sat navs give you this option, but I can't get it on my Roadcom which is a shame.

★★☆☆☆

written by volvo740 on 24/08/2007

This is a somewhat complicated gadget to use. Familiarity with the product broadens ones horizons a little but it is complicated in several departments especially in saving addresses/postcodes for future navigation. A few extra pound might have obtained a more reliable, easy to use navigator. On the face of it - not value for money.

I haven't actually managed to navigate a complete journey using this Roadcom RC300, but so far, it doesn't do what it says on the tin. I'll stick with my cheaper, less comprehensively featured Navman, because it fulfills its primary function - it gets me where I'm going.

“I wanted to avoid toll roads and Roadcom RC300 took me...”

★★★☆☆

written by Storemandgaf on 02/09/2006

I wanted to avoid toll roads and Roadcom RC300 took me over the Humber Bridge (£2.70). I wanted the quickest route from Scarborough to Windsor and it just ignord the fact that the M1 existed. Every time I pass a pull-in for parking on a B-road it tells me to turn left into it. The manual says 3 hours to charge and passed charges took 3 hours but today it has been on charge for 7 hours and will not turn on. It has also locked up on me in the past and I had to reset the unit. Not happy with the Roadcom RC300. I have used 2 different PDA's with sat-nav before and they were both spot on. I can't believe a dedicated sat-nav unit is so poor.

★★☆☆☆

written by jonest on 27/08/2006

Roadcom RC300 has a clear touch screen and good graphic display, however it has a clumsy windscreen cradle, mains charger lead is too short, unit locks up on long journeys, impossible to use centre direction button, full charge does not last long, and too much sat delay in direction commands. Although this was in my budget, it has taught me a lesson in 'you get what you pay for'.

Pricing attractive. Dont get tempted by the Roadcom RC300 price as its bound to give problems in long run. Customer service helpful but would never refund your money if you are unhappy with the product.

The Roadcom RC300 is cheap enough for most people to buy. This is my second sat.nav, the first one was slightly cheaper but used to lock out all the time.

★★☆☆☆

written by mattpaines on 17/05/2006

The Roadcom RC300 was for our second car. The TomTom was too bulky to fit aesthetically so we bought something that would look better.
Up to now I've had two units, the first failed because the Roadcoms internal charger system failed within a week of purchase. The second unit is now 2 wks old, and the mains charger has failed, having to charge from the car. Not sure if I'll try a third, may just go buy a Tom Tom One.
