“Alton Riding School”

★★☆☆☆

When I first started riding at alton I was 5 and I knew nothing about horses. I remember that the instructor was very unhelpful and expected me to know as much as the other girls who had been riding alot longer. I rode like that moving up groups for a few years until I began to help out there. It seemed that I was doing all the work while the older girls sat around. I had to lead in just about every lesson and afterwards poo pick the arena and then lead again. I can remember one of my very few friends resulted to hiding so she didn't have to do as much work. We had to get up to the field and then were expected to catch our horse in a bridle and ride bareback down the rode on horses that could be unpredictable. One experience was the time when I rode a horse that they had who was so skitty and I didn't want to ride her. I asked if I could swap horses as I was scared and they told me to get on with it and refused me to swap. It seemed I was always the one turning the poo pile and In my final year I decided to enter the show. They told me to arrive at a certain time and when I got there everyone was already tacked up and groomed. They told me to hurry up and that I was late when In fact I had been given that time to arrive. My dad drove me to the field and I tried to catch my pony who ran off from me. As I struggled to catch her without any help my dad voulenteered to help and ended up nettled all over his legs. When we caught her and I took her back I brushed quickly but was unable to plait her tail as I hadn't been taught how. I asked one of the older girls who realised I had put her headcoller on my horse without knowing and she shouted at me even though she only rode there and then told me to grow up and learn. Luckily a kind lady who was my friends grandma helped me plait my horse and I got on. we rode up to the showing field and I went into my first jumping class. I could not get my horse near a jump as she was being naughty and spinning round and bucking. I was only 8 and didn't know how to controll a strong big horse and was disqualified. My next jumping event was horrible. I rode at the jump determined and ready when the horse spun and ran at the fence. I was shaking so much that I had to get off and was told off for doing so. An older girl got on my horse and thrashed her so much with a whip that I had to turn away and then after not getting her over a jump the girl got off and gave her back to me. She said "she has learned her lesson get back on," then put me back in the saddle and smacked the whip down on my horses hindquarters. The horse shot forewards and spun around and full pelt gallop. She went right through the fencing which burnt my uncles arm and rocketed at a wall. She halted just before it and I fell straight into a patch of nettles and a wall. I ended up breaking my arm and not riding again for 6 weeks. I now ride as a 12 year old with someone who owns 3 horses and she says I'm a very good rider and it obviously wasn't my fault when the Alton accident happened. It was all down to lack of correct information given by Alton Riding School. I would highly reccomend you don't ride there as it could result in injury.
