THIS IS THE ONLY DAB RADIO IN OUR HOUSE AT THE MOMENT AND IT IS LINKED TO THE HI-FI SYSTEM. WE'VE HAD THE PANASONIC FOR MORE THAN 3 YEARS. SOUND QUALITY THROUGH THE HIFI IS SUPERB, EVEN ON THE ROD AERIAL. THE DREADED P76PDET FAULT CROPPED UP TODAY. WE TOO THOUGHT IT WAS DESTINED TO BE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR, THEN FOUND THE HELP ON THIS WEBSITE - HOLD DOWN THE POWER AND MENU BUTTONS TOGETHER. NO PROBLEM SINCE.

had the rfd1 for over 2 years. it worked fine although the reception ability fluctuates from day to day. it then developed the dreaded f76 pdet fault code and i thought it was doomed!!! luckily i read about a solution to the problem.... press the power button & menu button for a few seconds at the same time... try it a couple of times if required... it worked for me!!!

Some stations are good, some not so good [breaking up] so I put this down to the area I live in. Sound quality okay though a little "artificial" through the unit's own speakers, so I play it through my midi hi-fi auxilliary socket instead. I've had two other portable DAB radios and this one receives more stations than one of them, so guess it's better than average for this area. Overall, quite happy with it though now a little concerned that other people have found there's pack up and show a fault code on the display.

I received the Panasonic RF-D1 as a gift from a friend, I haven't the heart to tell the friend for the last 2 years the rf-d1 as been sitting on the kitchen shelf displaying the "F76 PDET" logo in it's screen. I had approx 15 months use fom this equipment.

“The Panasonic RFD1 Visually looks attractive.”

The Panasonic RFD1 Visually looks attractive.
Not too heavy. Packed up after 18 months occasional use. It is displaying the code F76 PDET which means it has to go to a dealer for repair. Is it worth the repair cost I wonder. I am about to find out what the charge will be. Give me a simple 'channel preset' radio without all the gimmicks at a fraction of the cost. I bought this as a present for my wife and I think it is out of politeness that she wants it mended. I don't think it's worth it.
She only turns it on and off, only listening to BBC 4.
I had confindence in the brand Panasonic but now I'm not so keen. It was expensive and has little to offer of practical use to the average listener.
From other reports I see this problem seems to be a Manufacturing/Design problem that occurs too often. Panasonic should repair it free of charge as it is clearly 'Unfit for Purpose'.

My Panasonic RFD1 is now 3 years old and still working well, and I use it all the time, in my truck when I`m at work, at home, in fact anywhere. The sound, when played through a good hi-fi is 1st class. I use a mini fm transmitter to send the sound to my truck`s own radio for better sound quality, works a treat!!! Its been dropped a few times with no damage to it other than a few scratches so its tough as well.

Nice looking compact DAB Digital Radio. Sounds much better with FM than DAB especially with equaliser set to off. Menu system is over complicated. DAB reception is poor with interference. Batteries last very short time due to excessive power consumption. Bulky transformer with thin flimsy wire.

The Panasonic RFD1 has manufacturing fault where F76 PDET is displayed on the screen. The 5 volt regulator (marked Q315 on the circuit board) will have failed as it gets excessively hot in DAB mode. Panasonic paid for the repair on mine even though it was outside warranty. I have modified mine by fitting an aluminum heat sink to the hot component to help cool it. Hopefully it will do the trick. I think this is disgraceful and incompetent as well as a waste of energy. I would not recommend this radio!!

Panasonic RFD1 Dab should advertise the battery consumption is high ,and digital radios are supposed to be more advanced? I think digital radios are still overpriced considering they have been out a long time now. Should have just kept to the old analogue radio. With that I had no problems!

Don't buy the Panasonic RFD1 when you can get the pure evoke. I bought this, friend bought the pure. No contest. I thought panasonics would be good sounding but whilst its great through the hifi the speakers are rubbish. The reception is also inferior to the pure.
Pretty good in isolation but trounced by the pure evoke 1.

Display indicates numerous Dab stations captured but no sound comes out on DAB band. Normal sound operation on FM band. Any solutions out there?
